Grand Master Kim and his staff are like none other. My children have been so enriched by their participation in MKTKD that it is difficult to quantify. But I’ll add this. I will be joining as well as the benefits are too enticing and useful at any age. If you were at all considering Master Kim’s, I can tell you it is worth it!

We joined Taekwondo a year ago after trying two different places before this. My son cried during the first week when Master Kim asked his name and now he can not miss any opportunity to talk to Master Kim. It has been very valuable for my kids and myself. Our family absolutely loves this place and all the instructors here. Everyone is so nice and you feel like you are being cared for personally!!!

My son and I joined together, and the family classes were fantastic for learning, exercise, and bonding. I was especially impressed with the quality of the curriculum and instructors, and how safely they managed to continue teaching during the pandemic.

Words simply cannot express how grateful we are for Grandmaster Kim and his truly exceptional character building Taekwondo program... so I asked my 5 year old daughter to tell me why someone should send their kiddo to Master Kim’s.“Before Taekwondo I was afraid of EVERYTHING! GM Kim taught me that I can be brave and do anything! I still get butterflies in my tummy sometimes, like when my teacher calls on me in school. But I just remember what GM Kim teaches me about breathing and focusing and rising to the challenge. Then the butterflies go away and I just do my best!”

Master Kims Taekwondo is a wonderful program for children. We especially like that Taekwondo places respect on an equal level with learning to strike. There are probably lots of place that can teach your kid how to strike someone. Master Kims will reinforce respect, discipline and listening as well as teach your children self defense. We are still.new here but really loving it so far.

Master Kims is a supportive environment for both children and adults to develop confidence, self-respect, and respect for others through taekwondo. My son has interacted with a diverse range of people at Master Kims, including family classes with students of all ages, classes that include children with developmental disabilities, summer camps, belt tests, and family events such as the annual picnic and family fun day. In all of these different contexts he has unfailingly been treated with dignity and respect, and has learned to treat others in the same way. Master Kim and his staff emphasize that taekwondo is not only a movement practice, but also a philosophy of life.

There is no competition when it comes to Master Kims Taekwondo. I started when I was 9, and since then my entire family have achieved their black belts, and I achieved my third degree black belt and worked there for three years. Wonderful and caring staff with a personalized instructional program suited for all skill levels and physical abilities. They provide a mental and physical workout in a fun and engaging environment that is 10x more enjoyable than a session on a hamster wheel (aka treadmill)! They simultaneously interweave character instruction into their curriculum, which help promote confidence, self-control, and discipline in all of their students.

Ive been going for three years and today I was awarded my black belt. Ive loved it so much and I still do. All of the staff are wonderful and they are going above and beyond with Covid-19. One of my favorite places I recomend for kids and adults alike.

There are a plethora of free time activities available to our children and us. With our busy lives selecting activities which provide the greatest opportunity to help strengthen our family values, reinforce positive tenants in our lives, and develop good citizens are paramount. As parents and in my case a grandparent, I wanted an activity that I could share with my four grandchildren. The challenge was formidable! Both male and females ranging in age from 5 to 70 years finding an activity which would challenge and afford an opportunity for each to be successful was no easy task. My 5 year old grandson solved the problem when he decided to study Taekwondo at Master Kim’s. First his sister, then his cousins, and finally I was hooked. As an observer, I quickly realized that the study of Taekwondo was incidentally to the real lessons they were being taught. Respect, self control, confidence, perseverance, and accountability are but a few of the character traits that are being reinforced while we’re having FUN. As examples, other parents and I were “walking the walk” by our childrens sides.Now over two years later my endorsement of the program is even greater because sharing this time with my grandchildren, each of us trying to be our BEST and reinforcing that failure only occurs when you QUIT trying, has been among the greatest experience of my life.I beg to differ with the name, however, to me it is not an INSTITUTE it is a FAMILY of like minded people who share and reinforce the principles of being a good person and citizen.Oh, you also learn some pretty cool martial arts.

As a life long student of Martial Arts I am very honored to be a student in this unique organization. In any other school that I have attended, the drive has always been To be a better martial artist, and this has always focused primarily on technique and practice.In Master Kims schools, the emphasis is far more holistic - All students are taught respect, humility, integrity and perseverance. The emphasis is on being a better person. The young students that I have witnessed grow up within this program have turned into future leaders and innovators. They are well rounded, intelligent, respectful and polite. They are a credit to themselves, their families and to the program that they are a part of. My view of martial arts as a way of life has been positively and irrevocably changed as a result of being in this program. If you dont try it yourself to see, you are missing out. From my humble point of view, this institute is far and away the best martial arts program I have ever had the honor of being involved with.

I have been training here for about 15 years. The school has become a second home to me. Taekwondo has become a major part of my life & I cannot imagine not doing it. Master Kims is by far the BEST Martial Arts program in the greater Rochester area if not the entire central NY area. They teach principles of respect and discipline and have solid leadership. Five years ago I went to Master Kims and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. The school is designed to not only teach an excellent martial art but they teach a philosophy thats for life. When Im in class there is a strong sense of community, a strong connection between instructors as well as students regardless of your level of training or rank. It is number one for a reason superb instructors and you always see everyone at their best. If your looking for a great martial art and a place with great training programs go and check out Master Kims....its a great plàce as a single student or as a family you will find nothing better in Rochester area .

I just joined and I am so excited to be able to have my kids with me through this experience! I am going to the adult only class and the family with my kids. It such a positive environment and teaches that Taekwondo isnt just a practice but a way of life! I am a yogi and it is a perfect fit for me!

I find in the short time my son has been in taekwondo, he is more responsible at home. He works at the goals Master Kim gives for at home. That builds on his independence and taking responsibility. He seems to do his chores on the first try, instead of the hundredth. I would recommend Master Kims to any parent that may be struggling to motivate their child to be more responsible and respectful.

Our son just started, the staff is incredibly patient with him and all the kids. A room full of 4 year olds looks a bit overwhelming to me, but they are great. Our son enjoys every minute there. I would recommend to anyone.

Love the instructor to student ratio! We have saw a huge improvement in our son and he looks forward to the classes every week. Earning stripes on his belt helps tremendously at home as a rewards system!

Master Kim’s TKD, Penfield has been an integral part of our family’s lives for the past five years. Our oldest children (7 & 10 y/o) began training at the age of five and are currently both back belts with the oldest testing for his second degree black belt this weekend.Truly, there is nothing, in our very busy, diversified and abundantly blessed lives that brings together, in full culmination, the foundations of building the authentic, wholesome person that we all so desire to become, the way that Master Kim’s TKD does! The five tenets (Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self Control and Indomitable Spirit) of the school are represented and lived out every day by those who embody and embrace them! I greatly appreciate and respect that students are consistently held accountable to each of these tenents through a variety of avenues, and as a result, become more as individuals.It is my experience, regrettably, that the fundamentals of respect (for the self/person and others) and the importance of being accountable for our actions has lost it’s ‘art’ and importance in today’s day and age. The closest thing to bringing this back, from a community perspective, for the long term for our children (aside from our own parenting) has been our association with this amazing school!With confidence and pride, I share that my children are more confident, self aware, respectful (toward themselves and others), physically and mentally strong, dependable, give back with a sense of pride and appreciation, and have a strong work ethic as a result of MK’s TKD and their all-around development here.It’s true that if TKD were not a part of our lives (my husband and I and our infant daughter gain so much too, simply through association and reinforcing all that the school teaches and requires) we would not be the best version of ourselves as often as we are now. I’m not sure what might be more powerful in the development and formation of our children, and ourselves!?!?!Our children are required to learn their self defense curriculum, absolutely, but in addition, they must keep up with their school work on a satisfactory level, they must ‘give back,’ through various forms of community service and participation in community events, they must READ books (or materials of their liking), they are required to display strong character in and outside of the school and very importantly, to their family, and they must earn the right to test in order to move up in rank, through applying to test and proving that they are ready!TaeKwonDo at Master Kim’s is truly a comprehensive program that teaches and builds the whole person from a value system that honors and respects tradition! The best kind of tradition, if you ask me:)Master Kim’s, Penfield Adult Yoga Program (a program inside the program) is wonderful as well! I love that I can take a little bit of time for me, while the kids are practicing, to strengthen and fill myself from a wholistic standpoint!!! Yoga has truly made a difference in my daily posture, breathing, positive mind-set, not to mention in my strength, mobility and flexibility!
