As someone with no dancing history, they do a wonderful job making me feel comfortable studying and it is a great deal of fun.

The front desk person doesnt repect everyone, every level of dancer, and the event organizer didnt take any responsibility on his mistakes(dont reply to email and dont take any action when I lost $88 because of city dance). I would say a good dance studio should convey the value of peace&love to everyone and care about every dancer lover, and obviously city dance is not doing well in that, its going through a lot of changes and focusing on making money now. I really like some of the instructors here though and hope they can teach in other studios

Really nice dance studio in SF. Classes are available in many different styles such as hip hop, kpop, and urban. Instructors are great and very friendly. The only downside is that sometimes the studio gets too full and there is barely any room to move.

I have never attended a dance class at this studio, however I have attended LT workshops in which were hosted by Sandy Lee from City Dance Studios and I will say, that my only complaint is that the host and her photographer will walk in front of you with their cameras and block your view of the dancers, as if you’re not even there. It happened too many times while I was watching and/or recording LT. I find it to be rude and inconsiderate of the fact that you paid to see the dancers, therefore her or her camera shouldn’t obstruct your view in any way. When you pay your money to see dancers your enjoyment should be more important than her or her photographer getting the best shot or video footage.

My finance and I took a couple of dance lessons with Michele, and it was a great experience. Michele is awesome -- really knowledgeable, keeps the lessons really enjoyable, and pushes students just the right amount. Id recommend her to anyone looking to take dance lessons.

I think this studio is closed. Went there this afternoon and the door was locked. No entrance at all. Also no one answered the phone call if you just want to ask. They dont even get a sign.

Im a super beginner and have taken a couple of hip hop classes here. The classes I took were really fun, and the instructors made space for non-dancers to get some experience. My roommate, a more advanced dancer, goes a couple times a week and really enjoys their classes. Prices are pretty affordable if you go every once in awhile, but Im not sure how they stack up against other dance studios.

I’ve taken quite a few beginner-intermediate and fundamentals hip hop classes here. I’ve had lots of fun and they have generally great instructors. That being said, many of the beginner classes here are much too difficult for actual beginners (closer to beginner intermediate), so if this is your first time do some research on which class to take.My main complaint is they change around their schedule a lot so I always have to check their Facebook page before going (and sometimes they forget to post a change).

Ive been taking dance classes since I was 8 years old, and then took a 10 year break. I was soooo happy to find this dance studio. I was reluctant to take dance classes again because I thought it would be full of younger students, but this is a great place for adults too. There are classes for all types and levels, and everyone that attends class is very friendly - there is a community feeling here.I highly recommend this place! If youre an ex-pro dancer, or if youre just interested in trying a class for the first time, you wont regret taking a class!!!

Ive been taking the adult ballet classes from Carla ever since she joined City Dance a couple years ago. She is very patient us newbies who never took ballet as a kid, explains each exercise so that you can understand it, and goes at a pace that works perfectly for us. I recommend this place to all my friends interested in dance!

This is a nice little dance studio between soma and mission. It has two floors with spaces for classes. The only problem I experienced here was the fact that it isnt air conditioned. If you attend a dancing class on a hot day you are going to sweat a LOT.

This studio is amazing! Took a hip hop master class with Funkanometry on Sunday night. Amber, the guest instructor, is excellent and also teaches regularly - highly recommend the master class and Ambers normal classes! I also rented space in the studio, $20/hr, very flexible and great spaces!

As much as the customer service wasnt to my liking, the classes are awesome. I would recommend taking a few POLE 101 classes before jumping around to the others.

Ever watched a Hip hop dance video or So You Think You Can Dance? and thought, Damn, I wish I could learn to move like that? Well lucky for you that you have ran across this review! I was one of those people, and after consistently taking class at City Dance I am well on my way towards that end. Their instruction in basic, groove-based, old school, and advanced contemporary Hip hop is by far the best in the area. Home to SF Funkanometry, San Franciscos original Hip hop dance company, City Dances advantage in instruction is its experience and longevity in the Hip hop world. They know how to produce dancers complete with technique, control, and a sense of performance. Check the website and drop-in for class!

By far this place has one of the best selection of instructors in SF. I highly reccomend Dennis Infantes Old school hip hop class and the groove mechanics and all styles sessions. Any of the workshops they have through their website that they offer will b amazing because a lot dancers in the industry and scene end up coming through here. Only reason I cant say more about the other classes because of my limited time.Honestly, Ive never met anyone that didnt have fun in these classes. Also get a 4 class pass, you will come back.

All around, this is the studio I recommend for hip hop dance training in SF. Not only are the prices SUPER reasonable, but there is a huge variety in styles of training and classes you can take here. There are performance workshops (take class & then perform your piece), there are regular drop in classes, and there are classes that build on technique weekly (ie the bboy classes), ON TOP of hosting some amazing workshops from out of town guests like LES TWINS. There are two locations - City Dance and City Dance Annex and I definitely prefer the first to the latter.

I attended a rehearsal of Smuin Ballet here, but this is also where the incomparable La Tania teaches flamenco. Not to deprive you of a voyage of discovery, but the entrance is actually in back, by way of Brady Street and Colton Street and Colusa Place to Chase Court, whew! I spotted some interesting murals and transit infrastructure (like vents) as I did the dance of getting to the dance studio.

To clarify the previous comments: City Ballet School and City Dance School are completely separate schools. City Ballet is a ballet school offering classical Russian Vaganova based training, taught by the finest teachers, and modeled after Artistic Director Galina Alexandrova and Mens Director Nikolai Kabanievs own training at the Bolshoi Academy in Moscow, and the Vaganova Academy in St. Petersburg Russia. This is a superb school for serious ballet students.City Ballet School rents out space after ballet class hours to City Dance School, an entirely separate organization without a home studio, so it rents out five different studio spaces around the city and hires teachers of various dance forms including jazz, hip hop, and flamenco.Smuin Ballet also has, in the past, rented studio space from City Ballet, but no longer rehearses at this location.

I commute 25 miles one way to get to this studio at least 2-3 times a week. I wouldnt do that for just any studio. This studio is amazing. If you want to learn hip hop dance its the best place to go. Theyve got beginner classes, theyve got advanced classes. The people are beautiful, generous, and kind. Never danced before? No problem. Take an absolute beginner class with Rocko and youll be pretty cool in no time. Danced a little bit but want to get better? Take classes with Emerson, Amber, Leslie, Darcy and much more at this studio. I can only speak to hip hop classes (which is bountiful here at this studio) but I know this place has much more. Ballet, West African, Yoga....You should just go. They have free parking at the main City Dance studio. A short walk from the Van Ness Muni stop.
