Ive trained at quite a few academies in my time doing BJJ, and Magalit BJJ is a real gem. Travis (Magalit) is a fantastic coach whos managed to cultivate a team that approaches BJJ is a very joyful way. People are excited to collaborate, practice new things, and train without ego. The atmosphere is very safe, and the coaching and other students are top notch. Really glad to have found this spot.

I really recommend Magalit BJJ. Its not my main academy, but Ive dropped in several times to get different rolls in, and will continue to do so. If I lived closer, this would rank very high as my main spot to train.During my time here, I received great instruction and positive feedback from both Travis & Raul. They know their stuff and they pay attention to your needs.Whether youre looking to tear up the competition or just improving upon an engaging BJJ hobby, they are attune to your goals and provide a friendly, clean training space.Everyone here is inviting, friendly, and helpful. Swing by and get some rolls in!

I was always really nervous in trying out a martial art gym because of many reasons: Im scared that Ill hold everyone else back in class, its embarrassing, Im intimidated. All my reasons and doubts went out the window the first day training with Travis. He was really welcoming. His students were really welcoming too! This only means that hes providing the right type of culture, respect, and a sense of family. He is seriously an amazing instructor. He is very detailed in every move he teaches. He would demonstrate a move in different levels: beginner, intermediate, and advance so that it caters to everyone in class. Every move is broken down step by step. He would explain when it is appropriate to apply the move and a counter to it.When it is time for live roll, he doesnt hesitate to give you pointers while you roll with others. He would also adjust to you when hes rolling with you. So if youre a beginner like me, dont get intimidate to roll with him! I saw improvement in myself in less than a week.

I am a new to BJJ. This academy is fantastic. My schedule only allows me to make the All Levels classes, weekdays at noon, where I am consistently the least experienced. All the instructors are gracious and patient with me and are very adept to teaching all levels in the room. They are great at observing what Im doing and giving feedback in a way I can absorb. I started my 5yo daughter at the same time I joined and she is having a fantastic time as well. We really love the community at the academy.

Travis has been so awesome and welcoming since day 1. He truly cares about his students, and has created an amazing learning environment for all students. It’s clear that he’s extremely passionate about his craft and teaching equally. Both Jr and Alex are very knowledgeable, helpful, and encouraging in their classes. We’re also very lucky to have coach Suzie as the instructor for the women’s only classes! She’s just as passionate, encouraging, and knowledgeable as all other coaches.I’ve been training with this team for a few years now and I can say this team is 1 of 1. Definitely recommend this school to anyone who wants to train bjj or get a good workout in with a great group of people!

Im so happy I decided to come train here. I tried a couple of schools before, and Ive never experienced such a welcoming group of high level practitioners. It really is a community, and that community makes me want to push myself every roll to learn as much as I can from these fine folks. If youre on the fence about where to finally try BJJ or what gym to switch to- stop thinking and reach out to Travis to try a class. Youll see what Im talking about. The level of instruction and humility here is 1st class.

Travis is a skilled, thoughtful instructor and world class athlete who somehow also finds the time to go above and beyond for all of his students. Its no surprise that hes attracted a large and loyal following! Despite this, hell still remember everyones individual strengths and weaknesses, and help each of us develop our own specific games. He, Junior, Alex, Suzie and the whole team have built a serious, supportive and safe training environment that will make you want to spend all of your spare time here :)

If you are looking for a good place with some awesome people to train. This is the gym.A great bjj gym with some welcoming, friendly people and instructors. I love the environment that this gym has, especially the women’s class on every Tuesdays and Thursdays. You will definitely learn a lot with Travis. He is someone who really cares a lot for his students. He will answer every questions or doubts that a student has. One by one even thought it takes time, because he wants his students to learn and be confident with themoves.Travis is really friendly and not gonna lie... pretty good looking instructor too. Check out the gym if you don’t believe me.

Not only does Magalit BJJ have a friendly and welcoming environment, they have excellent fundamentals classes for beginners, making it a great place to start your Jiu-Jitsu journey. Travis and his team teach practical techniques with a focus on proving them in competition. Travis’ instruction is clear and concise, and he’s always willing to answer questions and help you tweak a technique to fit your (or your opponent’s) body type. In addition to being a great place to start, they’ve got a strong community of high-level practitioners as well, so it’s great place to train regardless of your skill level!

I travel a lot, and have trained at a lot of different schools in the US and Asia. Travis is the best of them all. He is passionate about the sport, and it really shows. Youll find a good mix of people at his place-people really serious about the sport, as well as people who want to stay fit. When I started with him at his old place, I lost 20 pounds in three months.

Ive been studying martial arts for most of my life, anyone who takes their training seriously will immediately see the level of quality in instruction and authenticity of this studio. The caliber of teaching provided by Travis and his black/upper belts and the cadre of high level practitioners that consistently train at or drop into Magalit BJJ is among the best Ive seen traveling/living around the country and practicing this art.The inclusive culture (e.g. full womens program run by Suzanne) and attention to individual progression have attracted a diverse set of individuals united by a dedication they have to the discipline. Newcomers are also welcome and I guarantee will have a great experience. This culture trickles down from the lead instructor Travis, and is a rarity in the more serious gyms Ive trained at and visited.Come train with us, or you could attend some other goofy gym and get your black belt quick.

I switched to Magalit JJ a few months ago (March maybe) after training for a year and a half at another gym, and have loved every minute. The gym has three fantastic instructors - One of which is a female - Suzie. She holds a women’s only class twice a week. I am not good by any means but the coaches give personalized feedback during sessions that has helped increase my confidence and adjust my training to increase success. It’s not shocking that BJJ is a very male dominated sport, and that can be intimidating as a female in any gym. Everyone at this gym has been nothing but friendly and respectful. I would highly recommend training here.

I’ve been training with Travis, Jr, and Alex since 2016, and in that time I’ve learned more than I can retain and have more fun finding humility, discipline, and courage with the set of students that have gravitated to the school than I thought possible! All the instructors are super generous with their time and energy, which is made convenient for them by having classes consistently at a range of different times that work for me who works both during the lunch hour and at night. Should you also decide to cash in on their expertise by doing private lessons, you can rest assured that your mind will be blown and your Jiu Jitsu game will improve immediately. No matter what your goals are; to get in fighting shape, learn to defend yourself, improve as a martial artist, find competitive glory, or just go deep into a beautiful art, you’ll find that here at Magalit BJJ. You’ll even find plentiful parking streetside and in the surrounding neighborhood! Get in and get training!

Its been six years, time to write an update. This is the home of the inimitable Jiu Jitsu phenom, Travis Magalit whos the head black belt instructor. He teaches classes at this school daily and is also available for one-on-one lessons by appointment.Ive trained and even taught at some great schools and I want to let everyone know how genuinely special this one is. Travis simply has a talent coupled with a deep care for his art and discipline of building very skilled Jiu Jiu practitioners. He has this uncanny gift of insight where he can watch you train and read your game and add complements to it immediately; and then he can do it for everyone in the room! Ive never progressed beyond brown belt myself, but I look at all of the positions I think I know competently e.g. outside-half, top-passing etc, and then I attend his classes and realize that he knows those positions in such nuanced detail that I feel like a blue belt all over again. Oh, thats why I do that, or Oh, thats what Im missing to hit that all the time, are common thoughts I have after watching Travis teach said positions. Not only is Magalit a great instructor, hes also a very successful IBJJF black belt competitor having won many titles at the black belt level. If you show up on his days off, youll find two of his amazing brown belt instructors teaching in his absence. Both Alex Takuma and Raul Diaz are some of the best guys Ive ever trained with and theyre such great instructors that I always learn new things from them, not to mention how much I truly enjoy their company and presence.Lastly, Id like to mention that Travis and co set a fantastic tone of friendliness and camaraderie. Ive only met kind and welcoming people at this academy.
