Started lessons here recently with my son. It makes for a great father-son bonding time. Sword (and other weapons) are also available for training. Wish I would have started lessons earlier!Sensei Tim is top notch and takes karate seriously. He sets the standard for selflessly upholding the true values and purpose of karate and passing that on to his students. Highly recommend.

My 6 year old and I both do karate here. Sensei Tim clearly knows his work well and provides excellent discipline for the kids. I chose to join my son after watching for a few lessons because it’s super reasonably priced and it seemed like a good workout; it is:) My son has only been here for a month but he already repeats the lessons about courtesy and respect that they discuss each class which is really great to hear.

I had the honor of working with Sensei Tim for 8 years. I was impressed how much he cared about every student and was always a positive influence. Whether for yourself or your children there is absolutely nobody better than Sensei Tim at Rising Sun Karate! Thank You!!!

Excellent place to send your child for karate lessons. Our daughter has become more responsive, respectful and confident since attending. The Sensei understands children and knows how to instill confidence and respect throughout every lesson. We tried gymnastics, dance/tap, swimming lessons for our daughter and she didnt really enjoy them. She begs us to go to Karate all the time. Going to Rising Sun Karate has been one of the best decisions weve ever made. If your looking for a place to have your child go learn karate and have positive traits instilled, look no further. Rising Sun Karate IS IT.

Rising sun is an amazing Dojo. Sensi Tim is very knowledgeable and teaches the children structure and discipline in a loving way. I especially appreciate that he explains the reasoning why he teaches the specific moves and educates the children on how it will help them and the history behind learning karate. I myself have learned a lot just from listening and watching during the classes.

My son & daughter love going here. Sensei Tim is very knowledgable and the curriculum is great. There is a great family atmosphere and family values are worked on in addition to the karate! This is not a fly by night dojo. I have been there many times when an older student drops in to say hi because they are passing through Phoenix!

I have been a student here since 1996 (age 7). Within months of starting, my coordination improved dramatically, and though I was never a problem child, my parents say I started helping around the house more often and doing better on my shoolwork. Now that Im an adult, I find that karate is not only keeping me in shape, but still helping my focus and self-discipline.Sensei VanDenovers teaching style emphasizes practicality and real-world situations, from dealing with playground bullies all the way up to bar fights. Thanks to the situation avoidance and diffusion techniques Sensei teaches, I have never had to use any of the martial arts Ive learned, though I am confident that I could if I had to. Many students have, and the knowledge and practice saved their lives. You will be hard pressed to find a school with an instructor as dedicated to his students learning and understanding as Sensei VanDenover.
