This school is great. I have one quarter left and I have no regrets about signing up here. Great staff that listens to the students. I feel confident that I will be working in this industry after graduating. This is a great place for veterans as they are accredited. I am currently using my post 9/11 GI Bill.

I took two of the evening extension classes, Fundamentals of Film, and the Advanced Editing Class. Both instructors were absolutely amazing. The experience with the school was incredible, each staff member was so attentive to me when registering and when I had questions. Many times instructors and staff reached out to me to make sure I was learning what I wanted to learn. Furthermore, wealth of knowledge of all the instructors was so vast, I only regret having but a few weeks to learn from them. I hope to be back in these classes soon!

The faculty is super knowledgeable and passionate. Its easy to get one-on-one meetings with them and in the classroom I really recommend telling them when they go on a tangent, because that does tend to happen a lot with a few. Theres a great selection of gear for checkout and collaborating with fellow enthusiastic students on projects is really special so cherish it! Do more projects than youre assigned, I guarantee youll want to use every second you have access to each other.

My son just completed a teen program here on video production. It was fantastic and he came home every day motivated and happy. The staff are exceptional and created a lovely comraderie among the group. 5 stars to this wonderful school.

I very much enjoyed my time here as part of SFIs very first Acting for Film program. We were fortunate to have a great staff of working, Pacific Northwest actors of both film and theatre (many of whom also taught at other schools, including Shoreline Community College and Cornish College of the Arts), as well as an amazing, local casting director. A couple months into the program, the tiny school already felt like home. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and it was easy to make friends/connections in the lobby with filmmakers, writers, makeup artists, directors, editors, etc. I also highly enjoyed taking part in several of their short film projects. This school does need improvement in organization, quality of equipment, holding accountability of student project completion, and active response to student evaluation feedback. Since graduation, I have returned to take classes and have seen improvements in some of these aspects, but there is still a long way to go. Nonetheless, I recommend this school for aspiring actors who would enjoy small, intimate classes with one-on-one feedback and making great friends/connections along the way.

Worst decision of my life to co-sign a loan for my daughter to go here. Mediocre at best, openly sexist teachers, and they didn’t follow through with the promised internship (something I had asked specific and pointed questions about). I have never left a review like this anywhere, but I’m bitterly disappointed in the experience she had at SFI. After months of pressure they helped her get placed at a horrible company that’s since closed its doors and left her in a real bind. Do some serious homework before shelling out the kind of money they’re charging.

This review is for the SFI theatre. I rented it for 5 days to do color correction work and it was excellent. The theatre is the perfect size to move around in for viewing (50 seats, raked) and its quiet inside and in a great neighborhood for your lunch break (short walk to coffee/ restaurants and QFC is next door). The staff there are very nice and flexible, and most importantly for the filmmakers, the screen is perfectly calibrated and the playback is as close to perfect as youre going to get for doing color work. Highly recommended especially for a longer piece. Color work is time consuming, detail oriented and Visual- its much more fun and smart to do it on a big screen. Ill definitely rent SFIs theatre again.

Seattle Film Institute is a micro college where students get personal hands-on attention and support. SFI is a unique institution in higher education because of its family approach to education. You will not find a nicer, more dedicated group of people in filmmaking education. If you thrive in small intensive environments and are a self-motivated individual that wants to work in the media industry SFI is a good fit. Definitely visit the campus and see for yourself!

I came from England to study for a Batchelor’s Degree in Filmmaking and I graduated in October 2017 after an intensive one year course of study. I have read and agree with the comments in the reviews of my fellow former students Nathan Hare and Nicky Smit. Like them I award Seattle Film Institute ‘4 stars’. The school is reasonably well-geared up to take foreign students, but the course is taught in English and it is intense. Support of students is good, there is a wide range of equipment available for use, (the vast majority of which works well, despite what some reviewers have said) and the teaching quality is ‘good’ for the most part, ‘very good’ in particular classes and excellent in some other areas. At times the organisational skills of the institution left a little to be desired, but this was not generally the case – for the most part the admin. was good, with some areas ‘needing work’ at times. The ‘atmosphere’ is very good, (well at the odd time or two it wasn’t), and the benefit to be gained from collaborating with one’s fellow students in filmmaking projects is incalculable. I made good friends along the way, who when they are as successful as I expect to be I can call ‘contacts’; hopefully they will think the same of me! All in all a valuable, instructive and enjoyable experience, which I feel is a very good introduction into the world of making films, properly and for real. Four stars, but dont go if you dont like hard work, as that is the key to success at SFI and key to its success as a Film-making / Acting / Composing / Motion Graphics and Sound Design College.

Failing to heed the other bad reviews of SFI online, I took an intro to film making course offered at night and taught by SFI owner operators. It was the most disorganized and inefficient course Ive ever taken on anything. The instructor was continuously going off on tangents and failing to demonstrate the basics of film in a manner that had any meaningful impact. In addition, we spent four to five weeks being forced to take home and use very old Super 8 cameras that were all broken in one way or another. The F stops were dysfunctional and mine wouldnt even focus. We actually got to touch more modern cameras only once or twice for very brief periods and received minimal instruction on higher-end cameras--the kind we would actually use if we were serious. Examples of lighting for scenes came once towards the end of the class. Film editing with Premiere was another exercise in futility, malfunctioning equipment, and the usual lack of focus. We did receive a cheap book regarding the rudiments of film-making which was helpful, but the cost of the course was a whopping $795.00. I could have bought a more useful book and used the rest of the money to buy some lighting and other gear. One of the other students and I made a short film using our own iPhones because SFI would not give us one of the higher end cameras that we had already paid for in advance--because it was checked out! We are proceeding to get our money back as I write this.
