Had a great experience at Black Widow MMA! Incredibly friendly and knowledgeable coaching staff with a great community too. Their variety of classes make it easy to find a discipline/disciplines that you’ll find interesting. Wish them all the success in the future, can’t wait to get back soon!

Our children have been doing Muay Thai and jujitsu with Bitsy and Jorge since they started the school. I can’t say enough love about these two and how they lead with love, care, and precision. My kids love coming here and I love to watch their interactions with the coaches. I love the diversity of the people who frequent the classes after the kids class. It makes me happy we found a place that is so inclusive and happy. Kudos, guys!

Our kids/family have been doing MMA/jujitsu for almost 8 years now, since our oldest daughter was 4 years old. And in that period of time, we’ve had to move many times. As a consequence of this we’ve had a lot of exposure to many different clubs, gyms, dojos, etc.Black Widow MMA has been one of the best, and its one where our kids have been at their happiest. The gym is clean and orderly. It never smells, which, believe it or not, is frequently a problem with jujitsu/MMA schools we’ve visited. The mats are clean, safe, and well maintained. The gym is owned and operated by a couple, Jorge and Bitsy. Frankly, we love them. They’re experienced /qualified fighters, and that’s valuable, but more importantly they teach both adult and the kids classes themselves. Many gyms typically leave kid’s classes to senior students and we’ve always felt a little short changed in this regard.....but not this time. They’re great with the kids. They expect a lot, but they also give a lot. They’re really good at making the class engaging, as well as challenging, and they always make really good decisions when it comes to things like safety. As a parent with kids in fighting sports I’ve frequently agonized about whether or not they were potentially in dangerous situations in both class or competition, yet I never really feel that way with Bitsy and Jorge. They’re really great. They also do a lot of wonderful things for the kids, like they pulled off a surprise Halloween party this year, and at the end of they week they’ll bring treats, etc.The kids and families involved with Black Widow are also fantastic. It’s all around just a very warm, welcoming, and safe environment. The kids work hard, they’re learning real and effective fighting skills, but in a way that’s enjoyable and chill. I’ve been to a lot of schools with violent/screaming dads, or where they push your kids to have some kind of killer instinct (when their like 8 years old), but there’s none of that here. Just good sound training and friendship. Also it’s gi-less so no having to buy and fiddle with hot cotton Japanese pajamas (I say this joke as a long time judoka....so there....it’s Japanese pajamas haha) or a colored belt that comes off every 60 seconds. There’s no rank system, no hierarchy, and I don’t miss any of that stuff at all. Some traditions are made to die.Our kids absolutely love coming here and we love bringing them. We totally recommend this place. It’s worth adding that my 12 year old daughter loves this school. One issue we’ve always had is in finding a gym that will either except female fighters (it’s been an issue in some places), or where there are other girls her age that she can compete with (which is also always nice). Black Widow has plenty of girls and, of course, they’re accepting of female fighters. All in all its a wonderful place.

At first I had thought this would be a good family oriented gym to train at especially with me having lots of martial arts experience and being an instructor myself. Also having mma experience as well I didnt feel the family atmosphere as they stated Jorge castaneda is a good coach and role model but his girlfriend who is the muy thai coach lacks customer service and I didnt feel welcome much. Even though Im experienced martial artist and fighter her instructions wasnt to what I was expecting and for the inexperienced she dosent really help or correct them this was more a business than a family environment that mostly just wants youre money and I wouldnt invest in it or recommend it in training there.

I came to this gym shortly after moving to Austin from Honolulu Hawaii where I also went to an MMA gym there a pretty well-known one at that. This gym atmosphere and coaches are very good and above par with knowledge and with respect of others. I have always recommended this gym to my friends and others who ask where I go to train at And when I’m there I met a bunch of new friends as well. The coaches and the others push you to be the best and give you advice even if it with MMA or just normal conversations before of after training. Perfect gym overall!!!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I have trained at several big name gyms with well known fighters and coaches, and Black Widow is absolutely one of the best gyms I have had the pleasure of training at.Its not often you see a gym have a competitive fight team while still cultivating a friendly and down to earth culture. The owners & coaches put in and incredible amount pride and care into the gym and the classes they teach. Not to mention they have incredible sponsorships and host tons of great events from UFC/Fight watch parties, guest seminars with champion fighters, and the locally famous Beejitsu events!Whether youre a beginner looking to get your feet wet, or a pro looking to train for some fights, this gym will get you where you need to be.

I have trained here for almost a year now. Super attentive trainers who care most about their students development. They have created a very fun, safe & diverse atmosphere free of bigotry and ego. The curriculum each week is always new & refreshing. They have created a schedule that is tuned to meet everyones training needs. 110% a great gym with enthusiastic competitors who just want to have fun & get better. Never have I ever felt out of place at Black Widow MMA.

Black Widow MMA is exactly what I could have hoped for in a new MMA gym when I moved to Austin a year ago! Both coaches are extremely welcoming and provide a family atmosphere that makes you forget to look at the clock during some grueling training (...sometimes)! One of my favorite aspects of the gym is training with people of all sizes, ages, shapes and backgrounds in a competitive environment. If you are looking for somewhere to have fun while training stop by and check them out!

My son in law was training there and wanted some help with his stand up fighting. I have boxed for many years but not for many years. Ha. They allowed me to come in and train with him and help with his boxing skills. The owners were there and very polite and kind to me as I felt like a stranger but they made me feel welcome and at home. Great people.

This gym is what all martial arts gyms should aspire to be. This is a family first, art second and business third type of gym. Never have I been to a gym thats exhibited more of the Bushido spirit than this one. Bitsy & Jorge genuinely care about each person who walks through that door showing nothing but love and respect. This gym is owned and run by minorities who practice and preach equality.

I have been attending for a few months and have to say that i immediately felt welcomed by the Black Widow Family. Dont hesitate to give them a try, as a woman I always felt safe and well looked after while getting an incredible workout and helpful training. Bitsy and Jorge are incredible teachers and coaches. Through the COVID19 shutdown they constantly checked in on their team and were always available for workouts etc. I count myself lucky to be a part of this family and to know these incredible coaches.

Let me start by saying that the head instructors, Bitsy and Jorge, are top notch teachers. In my experience in training martial arts, its easy to find someone who is highly skilled in their discipline (whether it be BJJ, Boxing, MT etc.) but it s hard at finding someone who has not only good in their discipline but is an excellent teacher as well. The gym also has a very friendly atmosphere and everyone is welcoming and helpful whether you are a beginner or have some experience in training. Definitely take advantage of the free class, and pricing for the gym is very affordable compared to some other gyms out there.

TLDR: I would rate higher than 5 stars if given the chance.I attended classes at Black Widow MMA from September 2019 to December 2019 (moved out of Austin). During those months, I would describe my experience at Black Widow MMA as nothing short of excellent .About the Coaches:Coach Jorge and Coach Bitsy tag team to make up a formidable force of butt-whooping knowledge. Coach Jorge focuses on grappling, while Coach Bitsy takes on striking. While each has their expertise, they seamlessly combine the arts to provide you comprehensive lessons founded in pressure tested martial art principles.About the gym:Clean, open, and well equipped. The main space is made up of mats that are clean and well kept. The smaller waiting area provides seating for parents and visitors to observe class. And a number of heavy bags, pads, gloves, etc provide all you need to be successful.About the environment:There is something super special about this environment that Coach Jorge and Coach Bitsy have cultivated. From day 1, I have felt very comfortable in the gym with my fellow training partners. The other students there follow in the Coaches’ lead to create an inclusive and helpful training environment.About the classes:Classes are generally broken up by the art (Muay Thai, BJJ, Wresting, etc.) I have attended all the afternoon classes at one point during my time there. Every time, the Coaches’ will cater to their students, bringing a little something for everyone. As a beginner, I was able to take away lessons, even in more advanced classes.Final note:During my time at Black Widow MMA, I have seen Coach Jorge and Coach Bitsy, time and time again, contribute and give back to the community and those in need. Just to name a few, they teach MMA at a high school with kids that have disadvantaged backgrounds. They’ve raised money for a fellow fighter (not from their school) who faced an unfortunate circumstance. There are many more examples of Jorge and Bitsy not only being excellent coaches but even better humans.I highly recommend checking out Black Widow MMA!

Ive been a part of the Black Widow MMA family for over 6 months now, and as a woman who had no experience in martial arts at all Im so glad I found this gym. The coaches, Bitsy and Jorge, are unbelievably encouraging and supportive and the team is welcoming as well. Not only are they highly skilled in Muay Thai, they do a great job of pushing you to your limit while modifying to everyones ability. Everyones on their own journey is a phrase I have heard many times in this gym.The gym itself is always spotless, well stocked with loaner gear for beginners, and they have partnerships with cryotherapy and meal prep business nearby. They even help more advanced students compete and travel with them to support. You also get a lot of bang for your buck with a flat monthly rate and unlimited classes, and even open gym time.I encourage you to come try a class and see how sweet and welcoming the black widow fam really is!

I have been training at this MMA gym for 5 months. I have been doing BJJ and Muay Thai, I feel much cofident and safer about myself. At this gym I felt welcome and the trainers offer me a free 3 day pass. At the end of the first day, I was all in because the prices are affordable and the trainers are friendly and willing to help you.Pretty much if you are looking to do MMA training or selfdefense; this is the place. This gym is growing and has a lot of future. I feels good being a part of it.
