I love this gym and immediately felt comfortable training here! Being completely new to krav and martial arts in general I was a little nervous about starting out, but Kaci and all the instructors really make the effort to make you feel welcomed. I love the new mix of classes and truly feel stronger after a year with this crew. 10/10 recommend this place

This gym is everything! Hands-down the most welcoming, inclusive gym Ive ever been to (and Ive been to a lot). I came in as a complete beginner and felt totally comfortable from day 1. Classes are attainable for people of all fitness and experience levels. This is mostly because the instructors are top-notch and really break things down in a way thats fun and easy to understand. I highly recommend if youre looking to learn self-defense and get some killer workouts in too!

The only people who wont feel welcome here, are the unwelcoming kind.As a queer woman entering a traditionally male dominated space, I had wondered just how well I was going to fit in. If I was going to have to deal with male partners not wanting to train with me, or mansplaining; or if people would be uncomfortable once they learned Im a lesbian. I mean its Austin, sure, but its still Texas, so you never know.... and I have to just say that one thing Ive learned is that at KMATX you are more likely to struggle if you DONT actively ally yourself with the queer community, or respect the strength and space of your female peers.A lot of us come to martial arts with our own concerns - maybe its our fitness level, maybe shyness, maybe we are healing from something or still going through it. Ive been part of this community since 2017 and I followed them to this new location because I think they strike the right balance between meeting you where you are and challenging you to grow.Take the instruction: Im not an intuitive athlete like some of my classmates, and I have to have things broken down for me. Thats what they do. A good teacher isnt someone with subject matter expertise, who is thinking out loud about their subject matter - thats just an expert. A good teacher is an expert plus - an expert who knows how to filter their high level thoughts about something they understand inside and out, in a way that a beginner can understand. The latter is what the instructors at KMATX have that in spades.Or the fitness aspect: Everything is scaled to your specific fitness level, and the whole community meets you where you are. So dont hesitate thinking you have to be stronger before you start. Youll get stronger here, with us, together. The fitness classes are light hearted and we laugh a lot, but we do serious work in there. My favorite part isnt how fun and motivating it is, its how Brett teaches you **how** to exercise, and how to recover post workout, to make sure that as you get stronger you arent straining your muscles or joints in a way that will ultimately cause an injury. (has anyone ever taught you *how* to do a squat before? Because you might be doing them wrong, but dont worry, Brett will catch it!).

Love this place! They’re taking excellent covid precautions (each person gets a mat pod, all pods are 6ft+ apart, and only 9 students per class) and the workouts are still dynamic, interesting, and make me feel strong!

This is a great place. Its a great place to get in shape. Its a great place to learn how to defend yourself and the people you love. Its a great place to build your confidence and learn something about yourself. Its simultaneously open and well-designed for people new to self-defense and fitness, and challenging to those who have been practicing years. The instructors are some of my favorite people in the world, and they are all highly skilled as well as invested in their students. And its a welcoming and safe space for women, LGBTQ students, and anyone who might be marginalized in society at large. Im very lucky and happy to have found it and become a part of the community theyve created.

Best instructors in the area and guest “lectures” by some of the best in the state. No matter where you are in the journey, they’ve got something for you. We all started where you are now, square 1. If you’re looking for a motivational and supportive community, KMATX is the place for you! If you’re looking for a place to make gains and hit/kick the Sh*t out of stuff, this is the place for you. No matter what, you’ll leave the gym feeling great and ready for whatever life throws at you.

This place is super beginner friendly, but still remains challenging as you adapt and get better! The community is so incredibly supportive and truly feels like a judgment-free zone. The instructors are top notch and genuinely care about each students progress and well being. Ive only be in Austin for a couple of years and it wasnt until I found these people that I actually felt like I was at home. Before doing Krav, I had no athletic training and was very nervous to join a gym. This place and the people here have helped me find confidence even beyond the gym walls. Bottom line, if youre looking to take a chance on something new, I couldnt think of a better place to do it.

Its hard to explain with words just how much I love the Krav Maga ATX community, but I will try. I started training with the instructors at Krav Maga ATX about a year ago. The training Ive engaged in with this community of supportive friends, has positively affected every facet of my life. Theres something that I found here that is so much more than self defense. Ive learned how to protect myself. Ive grown stronger and more confident in my ability not only in fitness but in awareness, and Ive made many new friends. The best part about training at Krav Maga ATX is the supportive and encouraging atmosphere cultivated by the students and teachers. Everyone in this building cares about you and it shows. Ive never felt an acceptance quite like it.Being a member of the LGBTQ+ community, gyms have always made me feel uncomfortable (theres a lot of spaces I previously didnt feel welcome in, and the gym was a big one). All of those reservations have been met with an openness and understanding. Krav Maga ATX is a safe place for anyone who has ever felt unwelcome and unacknowledged in any space. Having that support has helped me feel safe and free to bring my whole self, and feel ok sharing that with the world.Theres so much more than self defense that is being taught here. I really feel that its a place filled with true, unconditional love and support. Its a true family, and one that I will hold in my heart for the rest of my days. With every defense I learn and every punch and kick I become stronger, and let go of fears and anxiety. Its so cathartic to hit and kick things, and so comforting knowing I have the tools to keep myself safe in any situation. Krav Maga ATX changed my life, and has saved it countless times. To anyone wondering if training here is worth while, come and train with us. You are welcome here. You are family. Bring your whole self, and work on you. Work on becoming safe and strong, meet friends along the way, and you will be amazed at your transformation.
