Dissapointing, Columbia only offers classes in interior architecture once a year, so you cant even take that many. This results in a 5 year program and by your last year you have to pay $30,000 for 6 classes . Teachers also arent devoted and you dont learn much.Dont do it.

Art-focused college with professors who are actually heavily involved in what they teach. Not just a place to transition from high school to college but to experience a transformation from dabbler to professional. A wide variety of people with a wide variety of tastes attend. This is no cookie-cutter crowd. They have been at the forefront of innovation and best in class programs so expect to be pushed and prodded in all the right ways if you are serious about your work.

Not happy with this school at all!!!!! They tell you that they will help you find internships and jobs in your field. It’s all a bunch of lies!!! Very very expensive for nothing!!! Yes it’s in a great city and you learn to live on your own, because you are definitely on your own with Columbia College. If you are looking into this school for your son or daughter ( especially in music) RUN away. DO NOT SEND THEM TO COLUMBIA COLLEGE!! You will get the same education at a local community college. I have 3 other children that have graduated and going to other colleges and universities, and my biggest regret was sending my daughter to Columbia College. It has been nothing but frustration a great expense, and absolutely NO direction!!!

Wouldn’t recommend. I’ve made some long term friends and made some great connection however the tuition is 100% not worth it. It rises every year. I studied journalism and a handful of my instructors were part time and it showed in how much they cared about their course, sad. The housing is way to expensive and there’s no thought put in to how the roommate situation goes. They’ll put you with anyone. The only reason you should live in student housing is if you’re wealth, you’re an RA (free rent), or only do it for the first year or first semester to make friends. Live on the north, south, or west side and commute downtown. The school overall needs a revamping in my eyes. I think of the freshman that enroll every year and the production the school puts on and how quickly all that energy dies. If you really choose to come here be prepared to have to seek out of lot of work, findings, and city life on your own. Columbia doesn’t do much besides provide scraps and a roof with some instructors. A few teachers are definitely gems but the majority aren’t memorable. And lastly PICK UP SOME CHEAP COLLEGE CREDITS AT HAROLD WASHINGTON DOWN THE STREET OVER THE SUMMER!!!! Will save you a bucket of money while attending columbia

I love being a student at Columbia College Chicago. I am so happy with my decision to attend. The dorms are amazing, even gen ed classes are interesting, and it really is all about building your creativity. Living in the city for college has been an amazing experience that I would tell anybody is worth the lack of an actual college campus experience.

I love the school so much. I would want to go back to go and study for my masters program. One of the best libral art schools in Chicago. The Centre of excellence art school!! For what I studied , I couldnt ask for more. I could have studied something else in film, but, well never mind.

You can get the college experience anywhere. You can make connections anywhere. If you work for it, CCC is the place for you in Chicago. I am not kidding you have to work for it. Especially after, because it is not cheap. Be serious here. Listen. Expand. Grow. Understand. Produce.While it is open admissions, please do not take that for easy, or worthless. My experience was wonderful. Great students and professors. Class sizes are small. RU has a relation with city/jr colleges. Thus, unless you’re there on a scholarship, go to a community college and transfer over. This will save you so much money.

Great place to study art-related programs.

This school care about nothing but sucking money from you ,,, they keep on giving you the wrong advising then let you drop courses and add more semesters so they take extra money. Some of their professors are racist and they deal with some students as an outsider !!!!!! No body cares. All what they see in you is MONEY.If you have any problem with a professor no one will help you they do not care even if you reach the dean office. As an advice just run away and never come to school it’s the worst school ever, for me it’s not even a school it’s just a fake advertising of a school to take your money.

I decided to go to Columbia after doing a lot of research on their TV production program which is known to be one of the best in the country. The housing is very nice but SO expensive! I was shocked by how much I was paying for a shared room in an apartment. Socially this school is awful! People are generally and this includes the staff! It just seemed like they did not care about my education at all and were more focused on getting my money. Most of the school is run by students and everything seems to be very disorganized. I would highly recommend at least looking at different schools! I transferred out my sophomore fall semester and it was the best decision that I have ever made. Also Columbia is in a lot of debt even though they made so much money off of their students... So where does the money go???

Teachers dont help students, tuition is WAY overpriced for the education you receive, the ASL department is a joke! You must take this ridiculous panel exam to move on and you only get 2 chances to pass (every student learns at their own speed). Isnt the point of a teacher to TEACH their students. They also dont take nerves into consideration during this exam. If you fail both times your basically forced to change your major and have your dreams crushed or leave the school and have your dreams crushed so either way theyre crushing your dreams. The only good thing that came out of this school was SOME of the people I met. I am so upset at how some situations are being handled maybe Ill change my review when I see changes in the school and they take EVERYTHING into consideration during this panel exam.

Came to the museum here for a MAHS conference. The gallery has an amazing assortment of quite famous works. I loved almost every one of them. It was awesome to be able to see them all in person. Great showing and great venue.

The phrase that seems to follow this school around is, You get what you put into it and that pretty much sums it up. Care about the arts and your work or dont come here. Seriously, its not easier than business school. Be passionate.PROS: In most cases (with a good advisor) you can craft a major to your interests, something that cant be done at most state funded schools. Columbia offers all arts (media, performing and fine) without barring other majors from taking specific classes. Columbias pretty flexible with switching majors, so anyone can explore to the hearts content. The social networks are great, too (if youre willing to explore and find them - please see paragraph one). The portfolio center also offers useful tips and tricks. Also, SMALL CLASS SIZES (less than fifteen people usually), and people actually interact with you. Beyond studio classes Columbia offers a range of cultural studies, environmental science, literature, creative writing and business-art classes to supplement their programs. No Greek life, sports teams or colors. Its almost heaven.CONS: The bureaucracy. The administration doesnt keep up with students. This is why its important to find a GOOD advisor. The school isnt nearly selective enough, and people who arent motivated to be here are wasting resources. GPA isnt an indicator of intelligence, but ambition, and for the great resources the school provides, Columbia should raise its standards. If you dont want to repeat coursework you did in high school I strongly recommend AP classes or CLEP (its what I did), and doing so leaves room for more interesting classes. Yeah, tuition is expensive, but so it is at any other school - if you did decent in high, youll have a decent scholarship.Take advantage of the diverse range of classes and people that are eagerly offered to you. As far as standing out after graduation - do well academically, find an internship, do a final, independent project if possible, collaborate with other creative people and ALWAYS be doing creative projects outside of the classroom. I mean it.

I graduated from Columbia, loved my classes and professors who also worked in their field. We were all very focused and motivated to succeed I was a media management student but worked with other students from film, TV, radio, marketing, music and others

Do NOT go to this school. I thought this would be a great school to go to for Musical Theatre and its the exact opposite. Everyone can do it is how they view it. Its just a joke. And if you love to bash on religion groups and harass people, this is the school for you.

Columbia is by far one of the best arts schools around. As most colleges it is up there in price but you have to weigh the benefits vs. the price and the overall value is good. Columbia has a great website very user friendly to always keep you in the know of events happening on campus and around the city connected to the college. There is an excellent arts concentration and a very friendly staff eager to help and answer any questions you may have regarding the program. I recommend this college for anyone serious in pursuing career in the arts. And dont forget to check out their awesome urban street fair every year in May for free. It gives you a good picture of what the college is all about and there is always free entertainment, most of them being or ending up being big names in the biz eventually!

I was a student here, but left after I was scammed.Columbia is a good idea that is currently VERY poorly executed.Many of the professors I encountered seemed to have chosen to settle teaching here because they could not make it in there respective professional areas or no longer had relevant skills. The base tuition is low compared to other schools in the area, but Columbia WILL NOT invest that money back into students. The Financial Aid department lost scholarship checks coming from my home community foundation and threatened to keep $7,250 in third party scholarships when I wanted to transfer out mid year. Expect that they will charge you for everything possible, especially in housing. My roommate was a dirty, drugged up, thief and I was not even allowed to move rooms.Please dont put yourself through this situation! You can be creative for a lot less money at a school that actually cares about the health, wellness and success of their students. Columbia could improve tremendously when it starts seeing its students as people instead of dollar signs.

One of the largest fine-art school in the US offers great education in variety of field. They have great art and design interior architecture. They are conveniently located in downtown/South Loop.

I studied PR and Marketing at Columbia and it was one of the best choices that I have ever made (for a communications degree). They show you how to get a job and they make sure they are always up to date with the industry. Couldnt asked for better education.

Great school! The president and the student financial services department are crooks who will smile in your face while ripping you off!I got a great education but they put me through hell financially!

Never attended but also NEVER got the chance to. I applied in 2016, never got a response as to why I was rejected. But was told over the phone that I wasn’t accepted and a package explaining why would be sent. Never got said package after months of emailing back and forth and confirming with someone named Tom Kroll that my package was sent multiple times. I never received anything. Clearly I did not miss out since the reviews for their programs and jobs after graduation are very bad. I dodged a bullet. But I still feel a tad bitter about never receiving closure or any sort of explanation as to why I was rejected. Yet I was accepted into SAIC.

Laughing stock of the American college circuit. I graduated in May of 2008 right when the Bush economy collapsed. As if a degree from Columbia wasnt worthless enough already, it was totally void shortly after I graduated. This month marks 10 years since my graduation. Even going back community college to earn certifications has done little. There is a cancerous stain on my resume in the form of a tumor, I call it Columbia college. I literally learned nothing in the ways of practical application from this pathetic excuse for an institution which now equates to no experience.......which is how you get a job these days. No job without experience, no experience without a job. Columbia is simply a private money making scam, there are very, very few Columbia success stories. My degree from Columbia has allowed me to work part time in most of the restaurants or retail establishments Im left to apply at, professional employers dont hire Columbia graduates. 34 years old, never had more than a $900 paycheck. I pray for the demise of this destestable, pathetic, and egregious facade of an institution.

Im giving Columbia 3 stars mostly because I met a good group of people while attending. For what they charge, to me, Columbia isnt worth their price. All over their site and at events, they tote that all of their professors are currently working in their field. My two film professors hadnt made anything since their college days, and one of them was old enough to be my grandfather. Like a lot of other people have said, the departments have terrible communication skills and dont know whats happening in either department. The living spaces are nice, but are grossly expensive. I left after my first year because of the price, and wasnt sure exactly where I wanted to go. I felt like I learned something about film, more so with the hands on experience. The in class content though, I felt like I learned more at my community college back in my hometown. If you really want to go here, make sure you research. Id personally advise you to look at a different school.

I love this college. I study Music Business Management and Marketing here and have such a good connection to these industries because of my professors and the city of Chicago, in 3 years I got 8 internships and projects all in the music industry, my last one being a paid internship with Universal Music Group, I could not have done that without this school and the connections it gave me.

The school has no school spirit and no sports teams. Its stupid to have a dry campus and there is not much for students to do that doesnt always involve the arts. But the education is phenomenal for anyone interested and is highly recommended if you do not want a college experience, and have your career as your main focus

I was very happy to get accepted to this college but when I started everything changed. They have a horrible Financial Aid dept and advisors. No one can give you a right answer. They have very little knowledge. They made me stress so much because they dont know how to do their job and there for I will have to pay for their mistakes. FIND A DIFFERENT PLACE.

Biggest waste of money. Want an art degree that will earn you 20k a year at McDonalds? Go to Columbia or at least a real art school. Only choose Columbia if you get that scholarship or your parents waste their money for it. Their student body is filled with cuff their pants in the winter time people.

Great people, who gave great information on the college. The college is reasonablely priced and has a wide range of degree majors. This is one of my favorite colleges in Chicago.

This seemed like a nice college but the workers there werent very helpful on my tour. The tours themselves were very unorganized and packed with people. The dorms themselves are very far from the campus.

I went to school here and I also go back sometimes for various events such as art installations, galleries, alumni events, or manifest which is the big celebration every school years end. However, the campus has become so big and stretched out across the loop that it misses out on the community aspect and natural networking opportunities. The bookstore also does not have a lot of choices to buy cool merch or gifts. If you choose to go to school here, its not about what classes you take but more about networking for an industry job. They have a high drop out rate because of open enrollment or at least that was the old policy. Its also confusing to know which department to go to if you have an issue. You get the run around a lot. My opinion is that counsellors also bias on recommending classes so they can fill them evenly or they have a friend running the class so it wont get canceled so dont be afraid to go against their recommendation. I would also suggest taking fallback and transferable skills classes because many students dont end up working in their field; for example, take a basic photoshop class because many jobs require this or take an entrepreneurship class because it can be applied to most jobs. There are many scholarship opportunities to attend here and its cheaper than other art/communication schools in the area.

Theres one great saying I heard about Columbia College Chicago... Other art schools will teach you how to be a master of your art... Columbia will teach you how to have a career with your art.Columbia is my alma mater and I have to say that I had a wonderful time there in the Television department. I made great friends that I still work with after graduating and I learned a great deal about all aspects of television and the business.My only critique was a lack of real-life production experience. Giving a group of students a camera and equipment and telling them to go out and film does not even come close to the realities of working on a real film set. I had a bit of a rough-and-tumble learning curve when I started freelancing on commercial shoots.

I visit it and it was great cant wait to go there.

Columbia is the art school of the city! Columbia is not a normal college it has no colors or macot! It is only ofr arts and arts only! It makes student come together to make a circle to be able to make ne art or make a huge project!

If youre thinking about attending columbia, theres a couple of things you should be aware of. First, is the ever rising tuition prices. Its tough enough to fund school as it is, without it rising by 2% or 5% or 10% every year. Not to mention with grants and scholarships going down. Not that theyre scholarships are completely great to begin with. The teachers are fine and the school is very laid back, but if youre looking to study visual art (which is what im studying) i dont think this is the greatest place for that. so much attention is given to other departments and visual arts is simply not as strong as i think they should be. Classes are mediocre-covering the basics and leaving any chance for advancement up to the student. even the advanced classes leave many things to be desired. Challenging, I think not. However if youre looking for many a film department, or a fiction writing program, i suppose it is a good school. Though there isnt as many opportunities for commuters to immerse themselves in this school, as there is with those who dorm here.
