Very sad and disappointed that the Paul Mitchell school will not be serving customers until September 2020 due to the Covid-19 situation. Not only for myself but for the wonderful students there and putting their lives on hold for their education to be disrupted its concerning but I totally understand it and I appreciate Paul Mitchell School all the more for taking the actions to protect the students and the customers

Paul Mitchell The School Columbus is a great place to get an education! They have a strong market share of the beauty industry and provide a top tier education. Students receive a high-quality education in cutting, color, texture, makeup, and mens cutting. They also have access to an incredible amount of events including Caper, Beacon, fashion shows, and motivational speakers. Paul Mitchell The School Columbus is also a great place for hair services. They perform services on the general public. They have great prices on their wide array of services. All services are performed by students under the direct supervision of a licensed instructor. Its a fun atmosphere and a great place!

Ive only been here one time so far, but Ill be back. The girl that cut my hair was very nice, friendly and knowledgeable. As with any beauty school, you have to know going in that any service is going to take a lot longer than if you go to a salon because they periodically have to have the instructors look at your hair. She did a great job cutting my hair and then one of the instructors put the finishing details on it. Overall, very pleased with the service and you cant beat the price ($20 for a haircut). I do have to say it seemed a little disorganized when I went in. Probably because it was extremely busy. The parking lot is huge and I got the last spot. Even though I had an appointment, I still waited at least 20 minutes. Turns out, the girl who cut my hair was also waiting for me at the same time. They hadnt told her I had arrived. So just a little mishap. Overall, I had a good experience and I will be back. As others have said in their reviews, if something doesnt turn out the way you want it to, keep in mind that they are students and they are learning. An instructor will fix your hair for you if you dont like it. And I believe they also have a 7 day guarantee.

They are so mean and rude to the customers. I took my 6 year old daughter here for her birthday and she wanted to get her hair done. They made up an excuse not to do her hair after 15 minutes of combing and stopped doing it because of tangles in her hair. They were all white and racist managers/employees and apparently didn’t have the time to do black peoples’ hair. My daughter started crying she had the worst birthday ever.

I want to do this post now before I forget but I absolutely loved the way my hair was done yesterday (10/23/2015) by Hailey. I was her first client and I am glad she didnt hide that fact because I wouldnt have noticed by her demeanor and confidence. She did an excellent job and took her time to make sure I left with beautifully done hair. I loved her perseverance and her personality was great. Hailey if you see this I would like you to know that my curls didnt fall flat and you did a wonderful job. Thanks,Zahra

I went to the salon twice.BOTH of my experiences were terrible...TERRIBLE! they are very mean and bad at doing hair.Me and my cousins went there and they said our hair was too much and were not trying at all.So they made us leave and that is not how it is supposed to be.It is a salon for a reason where they should do peoples hair if they want to make money.Thankfully, we did not have to pay.

I went for color. First time here. I had the pleasure of working with Sonya from Chicago. She was nothing short of amazing!!!!!! I can tell she really cared about the condition of my hair. Its one thing to make hair look nice but if it isnt healthy it will eventually fall out. I have very thick hair and she had no issue whatsoever with getting it straight! Very pleased with the outcome.

Very happy with my hair. I got a spiral wrap perm. I think it was the stylists first such perm. I showed her pictures of how the perm should be wrapped. It took all afternoon but turned out great. It was my first time going to a school for such an important service. Even my daughter (who advised me against it) agrees it looks good. I did have to ask for the supervisor to check before applying the solutions and some of the rollers needed to be tightened as well as using picks to both tighten the rollers and lift the bands from laying on the hair. So overall a very good experience but dont hesitate to ask stylist to get help when youre not sure about whats happening. I will continue to go to Paul Mitchell for my hair needs.

Everyone needs to understand this is a school you cant give these people 2 stars for learning how to do stuff they are not professionals yet. If you want flawless results go spend $100 on getting your hair done at a shop. Everyone Ive had do my hair had a great attitude if I didnt like my hair I spoke up and someone eventually fixed it right. Overall I love the place. I see talented people trying to make a career and be educated more. Im proud of all of them for at least trying THIER best. Some students better than others but overall its a good place to get your hair done

I got my hair done at this school a few times, and I cannot express enough how bad my experience was the last time I was there. There was a student who made me feel so unwelcomed because she complained about my hair right in front of me. She was not explaining to me how she was trying to get through my thick hair, but instead she complained about it very loudly, which is highly unprofessional. Another student stepped in and was way more friendly, but I still do not feel as if I got the service I should have received. These students need more experience with African American hair because the times I got my hair done, my hair was not as I expected.

I have had many good experiences at the Paul Mitchel school. 4 of the students I have had the opportunity to have cut and color my hair have graduated and continued their careers. I have loved the color services I have received, and the price is so much more affordable than some of the salons. The girls are well supervised and take their time to understand just what you want and do a great job accomplishing the look you want.

This is the best place in the WORLD for me. I never write these reviews but I travel almost every week internationally and I am just not the type of woman that enjoys sitting down for hours to get my hair done. At this Paul Mitchell school I can make an appointment the morning of and get in and get out extremely quick. Also the prices and talent (I always book with the students that are graduating soon) is unbeatable anywhere. I recently had a bit of an emergency in Manhattan and ducked into a salon which charged me $300 for a COLOR and I had to get it fixed when I got back to Columbus.Love Love Love.

Every 2 years I go to salon schools and tell whatever student gets me to do whatever they want to my hair, I figure theyre going to school for it so if they want to do something all the more power to them. When I called this school and told them that, they told me they are unable to do that and I need to have an idea of what I want to get an appointment. Guy was slightly rude but he may have just been busy.

I had 2 go home & fix them myself & it cost more than this school. So if u want your hair perfect u should not expect ANY student 2 b able 2 do it. Weve been 2 salons that r 2 b SO great & his hair looked bad. Im very, very pleased how great they do his hair! I wish all of u great students the best!

The Ohio Academy Paul Mitchell Partner School Columbus has been a life changing experience for me. I started at The Ohio Academy Columbus in 2006 as a Future Professional. Having no idea what to expect from a brand new school, I jumped right in. Attending a Paul Mitchell school definitely prepared me to be successful in the field of cosmetology. From real salon experience on the clinic floor to hands on classes, I definitely received a well rounded education. When I approached the end of my schooling I realized how much I didnt want to leave and became a front desk coordinator during the night program. After leaving the Ohio Academy to work in a salon again, I realized how much I missed the amazing atmosphere and culture at TOA. In 2011 I had the opportunity to come back to work at TOA in admissions. This had been a long time dream of mine. I became Admissions Leader and to this day I am one of the lucky people that can honestly say I love my job. In many ways this school sells itself so I get to take prospective students on tours and share all the unique opportunities they receive at a Paul Mitchell School. As I say to every single tour, this is not just a beauty school; its an experience. One that for me personally, has changed my life for the better. Come out and explore the Ohio Academy Columbus where you are greeted by smiling faces, a beautiful facility, music, and people who really care. I guarantee you will love your experience whether you are taking a tour or receiving a service from one of our amazing Phase 1 or Phase 2 Future Professionals.

I wish I had never even went to this place. My first visit took all day for them to color and style my hair which is all natural. I scheduled my appt. early (9am) because I was leaving town for a reunion that only takes place every 4 yrs. I thought I would be done and gone by at least noon. Well 3pm came along and I was still there not even half way done. My hair ended up looking like something I just done in the comforts of my own home... Not pleased. About a week later I was contacted and asked how was my visit. I explained to him and he offered a complementary wash and style. Of course I accepted. The second visit she didnt put a color protecting in my hair before washing it so needless to say Bye Bye color. Then she started blow drying and flat ironing my hair. She left so many times to retrieve items she didnt have. Time is ticking. So as her day ended and I wasnt completed, another girl took over. She complained about how the previous girl was using a holding spray on my hair and shouldve been using a softner because my hair is natural and will hold on its own. Im not a beautician or a hair person so I trusted her word since she is the one in school for it. Anyway, my hair turned out beautiful. The problem us after a couple of weeks I washed my hair and my natural state didnt return and my hair is VERY VERY damaged. Its been 4 months now and my hair is so damaged that I had to get it cut off and restart natural. Ive been growing my hair for 2 yrs. and to have to start over is disappointing. Im so pissed. Never again

10/07/2015 Excellent. Better than some high-end salons Ive gone to! Please note that I had an appointment and I only waited 10 minutes. I was in awe of how professional and confident my student Yessica was (3 mos short of graduating). I am not an easy client; I was not clear on what color I wanted my hair but she and the instructor nailed it. The color is rich and simply gorgeous. They blended TWO colors and used 3 bowls (There is an extra charge/bowl). Yessica blew dry my hair without using a flat iron--amazing!! The instructor dusted it with a 2-min cut. Wednesday is Senior Discount. You cant go anywhere for the price or the perfection!!I watched some of the other students as well as how the instructors cut hair. There is a LOT of talent at this school. I already made my next appointment. The only drawback is that the process took 4 hours. Thats to be expected with their attention to detail and to getting it right. Im happy!!

Everything I disliked about other service, I love about your school. The professional personnel are delightful and very good at what they do. I have been coming to the school for over two years now and the persons who have provided me service were and are outstanding, Mary, Cody and now with Brittany B. I have had others do my hair and some were outstanding, in addition there were several that were horrible, but all in all these three stand above and beyond them all. They have taken care of my hair, which was really damaged when Cody Richards started doing it, and by Gods Grace, he did a terrific job. Brittany B. has taken over since Cody has graduated and she is fantastic. She does my hair just like I like it, in spite of her wanting to style it a different way because she is a professional, nevertheless, Cody and Brittany are great and very personal without being noisy. Unfortunately, Mary broke her hand and I was moved around to several persons, but I landed Cody and now Brittany and I am more than satisfied, actually the word is ecstatic beyond Joy. Thank you Jesus for professionals who do not mind doing my hair and the price is right.Shirley J. Brown

I have been to this salon two times, and neither experience was very good. The students here are absolutely amazing . . . when it comes to hair that isnt natural thick and coarse hair like mine. The first experience was pretty bad, I had 3 students and an instructor blow drying my hair for hours just to have it shrink back up. One of those students were so amazing, I didnt want to hurt her feelings so I kept my mouth shut. In the end, she had to leave so 2 other students finished my hair, and it looked great. My second experience wasnt the greatest either. The same student from the first experience was graduating and I was extremely exited to support her by visiting that day and giving her another chance to do my hair. I had so much confidence in her. But it took her like 30 minutes to blow dry my hair and it wasnt dry. Not to mention I could hear it ripping, and I just knew that I had to have heat damage when I looked at it in the mirror. It was brittle to the touch. By the end of the blow dry, I stopped her before she could flat iron it. I really tried, but I just couldnt be 100% honest with her about the blow drying process. It was the day she was graduating, and I definitely did not want to ruin her day whatsoever. I told her because I was afraid of the heat, and that I liked to wear my hair natural, and it was the truth. But those werent the only reasons. In the end, she did this really cute afro updo with some bobby pins. But just be careful if you have thick natural hair.

I’m a WOC and I have thick long 3c/4a hair and came in for a straighten and cut after 2 years of growing out my hair from a big chop...for reference. Gonna try and be brief but detailed. Got here everyone was nice had a nice conversation with a lady while waiting...cool. Sat down Becky was nice washed my hair conditioned everything was cool...curls were pretty, hair hydrated. Then They had two girls on my head blow drying not untangling my hair properly hair was knotted only drying the top part of a section. Hair was extremely dry applying huge amount of heat leaving hair knotted and not even blown out straight ends not being combed through. I spoke up to tell them they were hurting me and my hair and I was VERY POLITE IM SO NICE KEEP IN MIND I WASNT BEING AGRESSIV OR RUDE AT ALL! They were cool about it at first idk. I wet my own hair and combed it through because of how knotted it was and was showing them what to do to make it easier on them and get a better result. Kristy, an Instructor, soon came up to me attacking me with policies passive aggressivley, ofc. I understand that I’m not supposed to touch my own hair okay got it good. Then she was telling me that I need to stop stopping the students and having them redo sections of my hair they know what to do. I don’t know what they expect me to do whilst they FRY my hair, knot it up, and rip me with a comb. Was I supposed to sit there be silent and let them continue to think they’re doing my hair the right way? Instructors walked by TWICE as they were blow drying my hair to a crisp at first also watching me wince every time they ran a comb through my hair and didn’t say anything nor intervene. So I told her I wasn’t gonna let them stand there messing up my hair, matching her passive aggressive tone, and she said something idk followed by “is this gonna be the right fit” BOYYYYY I...then I said that I was showing them how to do my grade of hair easier and effectively . Kristin then said “well we do curly hair all the time we have a certain method” and I then told her that there’s not one way to do curly hair there are multiple types of curly hair (translation in my head: obviously they haven’t been taught so what’s the problem with me intervening for them to gain experience? the method they were using clearly wasn’t working) anyway blah blah she left idk how the conversation ended I just said they need to come to u for questions she said she’ll be close by they eventually finished straightening...had to tell her how to straighten my hair too. Instructor came trimmed my hair herself. Got done. People working behind counter were nice but my mood was killed by then. I’m not upset with students but with Katy attacking me totally disregarding how my hair was ineffectively being handled and decided to come at me for making them redo certain sections that desperately NEEDED to be redone. She didn’t come at me with understanding or openness but with hostility and arrogance. Conclusion: Kristine was rude. WOC perceed with caution. I guess the experience would’ve went better if I had a specific person who knows how to do my grade of hair. End result was okay my hair smells a lil burnt tho but I’ll fix it up. Wash was wonderful tho! Oh I was there for like 4 hours.Edit: I just read more reviews and saw one from another woman of color who had the same problems I did with brittleness from impropper technqiues and etc, only she didnt speak up in order to save feelings which resulted in heat damage galore. I hope to have given the students who did my hair insight on black hair and how to manage it and hope to have inspired the instructors to run more courses on how to manage black hair...seeing as that is a key part when becoming a proper hair stylist.

I rarely write reviews for any businesses regardless of the quality of service they have to offer. This time around I couldnt stand and here I am to write something about this place. My mom is a beautician & she owns a business in East Broad street, Columbus. I love what she does & the amount of money she makes is decent. So, I also decided to pursue the same career. I contacted this school to talk to their admission representatives but sadly I didnt get chance. I left bunch of voicemails & also gave my name & number to the lady who answered my phone. I would say I did that at least 17 times.I am here to tell all the people planning to attend this school, please dont be apologetic to attend this school. There are dozens around to choose from & you will be respected. Its all about getting courtesious treatment for the money you would pay. All these slackers there are to suck your money & leave you at gods mercy. Dont let them screw up as I heard from someone who commented that he was at receiving end from them & warned not to flush hard earned penny down the toilet. That struck me nicely. I too have the same suggestions for anyone planning to go there. Dont let them screw you.And just so you know, they are good at deleting public reviews. They just want to show 5 stars. 1 star reviews are deleted within split seconds they are posted. That should tell how cunning they are. :(

I love the students but cant stand the full time staff! I had some confusion with their new online booking, and had set reminders through text bc I am terrible at keeping track of appts being self employed and working 60 hrs a week sometimes. I ended up missing my appt by a few hrs and when I realized I missed my appt and never got a reminder I called in to sqaure things away, get back on the schedule, and see what was going on with the new system. The guy that works the front desk talked down to me, was very stuck up, lacked compassion, and was straight up rude. It has put such a bad taste in my mouth I never want to go back! Its a shame bc there is so much talent there but if there is one thing I cant stand it being treated like dirt, especially when I spend hundreds of dollars there!

Yesterday, 8/30/16, was my first visit to the Paul Mitchell Columbus School. I went in wanting to have an all over blonde coloring as my roots were showing. The student I had was Rachel, and she was really nice, and seemed to know what she was doing - she brought a hair color chart and asked what color blonde I was thinking about, and I picked out a shade. Her teacher, Gina, came over and didnt really explain why they couldnt do the blonde, but they could do an all over brunette color which would match my roots. Also, Gina told me that on top of the $27 coloring fee, it would be an additional $16 because theyd have to use another bowl of color. Never has a salon charged me an additional amount for more hair coloring. I keep my hair about shoulder length, and just about 2 weeks ago I had it cut and sheared to reduce the heaviness and thickness of my hair at Great Clips. I last went to the JC Penney Salon when they had a cut & color for $50, and once I received the service and went to the checkout desk, my total was exactly $50+ tax.I wanted to try this place as it was cheaper, and at this time were saving up for our baby shower that were hosting ourselves, and items well need to buy that we dont receive as gifts, not to mention the baby herself when she arrives in a couple months. I wanted to get my hair colored at a cheap price for our baby shower and maternity pictures later in September...The color turned out alright for a brunette color, but I was really looking forward to the same blonde look Ive had for a while now.My husband was okay with how it turned out, he was just surprised it was brown, and not blonde like we were both expecting.

I have been going to Paul Mitchell for almost 2 years. Taking into consideration it is a school my experience has been steadily going downhill with my visit this week hitting a low. I went in on Wednesday to get light blonde color with darker blonde lowlights. I had a picture so there wouldnt be any mistakes. 6 hours later I had half a head of 75% almost white and 25% very dark and half a head of 75% very dark and 25% almost white with a nape of very dark. 2 different students worked on my hair, one on one side another on the opposite side. Hence the wacky color. On Friday I returned for a color correction (another 4 1/2 hours). Things are better. They lightened my nape (now a redish blonde) and added lighter color all over to minimize the dark and add balance. I appreciate the fix but I did not think I should have to pay for the additional color. $50+ and 10+ hours for not quite right color is a high price to pay.
