Im a student in the data science program at the San Antonio Codeup with two weeks until graduation. I started my first career as a teacher in Dallas and continued to teach for many years after settling in San Antonio. I was looking to transition into a second career when I found Codeup; for me it was like an adult STEM outreach program offering a timetable that was practical. I was confident that I would acquire the skills and placement support I needed to begin a career in the booming tech industry, but what I didnt expect was the level of personal growth I have experienced. I went from feeling lost on a direction to take with my life to finding a second family and new career path thanks to Codeup. The instructors / staff really do care about you and helping you successfully and confidently transition into a new career. All of my classmates became really close and grew as developers together. We all share a special bond because of that! I wont lie though and say the program is easy because it is not. It was pretty challenging, but it is not designed to be easy. It is designed to prepare you for real world developer jobs, and how to be confident as a developer with your new skills that you take away from Codeup. I ended up signing my first offer letter a few weeks before graduating and that was the best feeling in the world to know I was leaving Codeup with my first developer job and that everyone at Codeup and my classmates were cheering me on! I was fortunate enough to be a part of the first cohort in Dallas and I cant say enough great things about my experience! From the day I walked in and met Christian to the time I got my offer letter he worked incredibly hard to make sure we had what we needed to succeed. Our instructors, Fernando and Douglas were so patient, incredibly knowledgeable, and offered just enough support to guide us through hurdles but gave us the necessary room we needed to grow and be accountable for our own learning! I cannot leave out another gem, Dimitri, who was armed and ready to step in to remind you why you started the minute any self doubt created possible roadblocks along the road to success! Kenneth came along in the latter part of our bootcamp experience, and this guy is a total rockstar! Codeup was faced with moving us to a remote setting 3 weeks into class due to COVID. They were so compassionate with making sure we had adequate breaks to practice self care while learning at home. I dont know how they did it, but they did everything in their power to make sure it all went as planned and unhitched! The process is what you make of it and if you truly want it and are willing to put the work in to succeed, there is no doubt that Codeup is THE place to go if you are considering software development as a career!

As a new student at Codeup in San Antonio I can say that the experience so far is above and beyond anything I experienced at a college or university. I have talked with graduates out in the field now and seen how much a difference its made for them. Coming from a security and military background, I knew next to nothing about software development before going to Codeup. A week or two after graduating from Codeup, I accepted a full time position at a major company as a software developer.The end result speaks for itself. The staff is amazing, the instructors are talented and beyond helpful. They are connections Ill keep for the rest of my life and journey as a software developer.If you just want a certificate of completion, go somewhere else. Theres a reason why a lot of the core staff has stayed around for years to help it grow, and theres also a reason why alumni often stay in touch and go back to be a TA. I myself have freelanced remotely from Dallas with them as a blog writer. I genuinely like the company and the community it builds.Theres just something really great happening there! I went to the one in San Antonio but was able to get a job here in Dallas. It allowed me to basically get my foot in the door of a mid-size cloud security company with zero experience in coding beforehand.Although I ultimately decided coding wasnt for me, Im still currently gaining value from the education I had at Codeup. I now work as a digital marketing specialist at the same company, and all the UI/UX design and web design I practiced at Codeup is still relevant. Having the coding experience got me a more analytical Marketing role with also zero experience, simply because they trusted I could learn it fairly quickly given my track record. Now Im in Marketing, a whole new creative world has opened up for me to learn so many more things, and I acknowledge I wouldnt be here if not for Codeup.The connections and experiences I made at Codeup were invaluable. Late nights studying, networking with the community around me, making long lasting friends that I will always be tight with.Codeup doesnt teach you everything, and its certainly not perfect. But the more you put into it, the more you get out of it. Go into it with everything you got! Its hard to invest in yourself and your future career when you dont know the potential on the other side. I can say for myself that it was completely worth it.

Codeups career accelerator launched me on a path that I thought was too difficult to get in to. Before Codeup, I thought that learning how to code was too smart for me; while I was in school, the curriculum is fast paced but easy to understand. The approach of learning from scratch and then using established frameworks helps drive understanding.Codeups faculty and staff are extremely motivated at their work. This motivation is infectious and produces outstanding results.As far as I know, Codeup is the only Coding Bootcamp that accepts the GI Bill. The amount of additional scholarships also prove that they are committed to providing San Antonio and Dallas with competent developers and data scientists.

After becoming a military spouse, I knew if I wanted to have a career it needed to be one that was portable since we move around every few years. I decided to go back to school for my second bachelors degree to major in a technological field of study. After graduating, it was hard to land a job because we moved again and by this time Id had to babies. The unemployment rate for military spouses exceeds the national average and I figured I just forget about working and end up being a part of that statistic. I ended up talking to a distant relative of mine who happened to be a software developer and asked her how she got into the field. She had gone to college and ended up getting a job, but said that some of the people she worked with had gone to coding bootcamps. I had never heard of this before and we were in the process of moving yet again. This time to San Antonio. I knew that if I was going to go to one of these bootcamps I needed to hit the ground running as soon as we moved. I researched bootcamps in San Antonio. I didnt know anything about San Antonio at all, much less anything about any schools or bootcamps. I really did my research, I had already gotten 2 degrees and didnt want to waste anymore time or money. Codeup was the only one I found that was certified by the Texas Workforce Commission, had job placement assistance, a money back guarantee, AND they accepted the Montgomery GI Bill. I thought to myself they must really be confident in what theyre providing to have any type of guarantee in this economy. I decided to join Codeup, but even with all the good things I found about them, I still wasnt getting my hopes up, after all, Id tried school twice before and still wasnt a software developer. How would this be different? If it turned out to be bogus, I had already mentally prepared myself for it. From other people I talked to here in San Antonio, Codeup had a great reputation, but I was brand new to the city and didnt know them at all, if it was bogus I was fully prepared to walk away. Well...not only was it not bogus, it was the best career decision Ive ever made! It gave me the hands on experience I needed. We coded every single day, they try to tailor the curriculum to each individuals needs as much as they can, and theyre constantly asking for feedback for ways they can improve and they implement those suggestions right away. Ive never seen an instructor or staff remember give less than 100% of themselves everyday, and the VERY best thing about it is that I finally have a job and a career as a software developer less than a month after i completed the program! They helped me to do for myself what multiple degrees couldnt do and what I couldnt have done on my own without them. Now I can help to support my family no matter where we move to and I just wake up thankful every morning before I go to work. I still cant believe it. Id wanted this so bad for so long and Im finally here!

I attended the Full-Stack Web Development program at Codeups San Antonio location, here is my experience Ive had with the program itself:Phenomenal, that is the only word that comes to my mind when I look back at my experience at Codeup. I knew beforehand that Codeup was a reputable school with excellent reviews, but Codeup still far exceeded my expectations by their amazing support, wonderful staff, and their comprehensive curriculum that made my learning experience as smooth as possible. From the very first day till the very last, I knew I was getting the best experience that I could ever ask for from a coding bootcamp. This review will be a bit longwinded, but please give it a read through, so I can help you understand why going to Codeup was one of the best decisions I have ever made in my life.Curriculum: The curriculum will initially cover some of the basics and foundational knowledge you will need as a Software Developer. As time goes by and as you proceed deeper into the curriculum, you will be introduced to more advanced topics and feel yourself grow as a developer. By the end of the program, you will have the complete skillset you will need to succeed in software development industry. The skills and lessons I learned from Codeup has helped me immensely in my current role as a full-stack developer and couldn’t imagine getting by at my job if I didn’t have the knowledge I gained from Codeup.Staff: The staff and instructors here will go above and beyond to make sure you not only have a pleasant experience here at Codeup, but will do anything they can to help you succeed. Before the program even started for me, I was able to get excellent assistance in getting grants and funding that I never knew I was even eligible for. This is what makes and breaks decisions for a lot of people when they decide whether or not they will attend a specific coding bootcamp. The Codeup staff that handles job assistance will do everything they can to make sure to not only land you a job in tech, but land a job that you will feel the most comfortable with moving forward. During the program, we went through mock interviews, resume improvement workshops, and had interviews setup for us to various tech companies. By the end of the program, I accepted a job offer a week after graduating and was placed into a career that I never felt happier working in.It’s hard to believe that it’s already been almost a year since I graduated from Codeup. Not only was the program a wonderful experience, but it was start of my journey as a Software Developer. I will never forget all the great moments I had in Codeup, and my only regret is that I didn’t come into this program sooner than I did.
