My daughter began practicing at Wash Park Martial Arts in January 2017, just after she turned 10 years old. I chose Wash Park Martial Arts because it was relatively close to home and Id heard great things about it. Shes been practicing regularly for 1.5 years now and I am a huge fan of both the type of martial arts taught, and of the instructors who teach my daughter. As a parent, I love seeing how excited my daughter is to go to class! She has developed meaningful relationships with the instructors and other students, and her confidence has developed considerably. Shes progressed through many belt tests, gaining knowledge, strength and skill at every level. She is more passionate about practicing every week and Im so thankful for the self-defense skills shes learning. Whether you have a son or a daughter, I cant say enough about the quality of Wash Park Martial Arts and their instructors.

I just took my first Self Defense class this weekend with Vanessa. I walked into Wash Park Martial Arts with no experience but knew I wanted to gain more knowledge with self defense. Vanessa, who was extremely welcoming, started with the basics of each move as well as the basic idea behind self defense. The other women in the class were also extremely helpful due to their knowledge and experience and helped me whenever I had questions.Even though I have only attended once class, I already know I will be going back for more training in self defense but now I have a curiosity for all the other classes Wash Park Martial Arts has to offer. I highly recommend this establishment not only because of the instructors knowledge and willingness to help students learn but also because it is a fun and challenging experience.

Ive attended several of the Womens Self Defense Classes now and I love it! The instructors actively foster a warm, welcoming, and safe atmosphere which really helps me relax and try new things. One thing that I really appreciate is that they explain the rational behind the different moves, which helps me remember them better and makes them feel more applicable as we practice them. I feel more secure in my ability to extract myself from a dangerous situation in an effective manner, especially while Im waiting for the light rail at night.

You should check Wash Park Martial Arts out if you are looking for a fun, safe and technically great school. I am a new student to the school, joining at the beginning of the year. I knew the school had been here for years, but never stopped in. I am glad I did stop in as the style is exactly what I have been looking for. I studied martial arts as a child and then in the 90s tried to but could not find a school that was a good fit for me. I wanted was a school that focuses on technique rather than kata. I also liked the way Aikido used leverage and locks, but wanted something more direct and effective. Wash Park Martial Arts checked all the boxes for me.I really enjoy the class environment as I get to practice the techniques on different body types. Interestingly, many of the students have come from other styles of martial arts, it seems to be a martial artists martial art! But they are great with beginning martial artists. The school is very focused on providing a safe and fun atmosphere. The instructors are mindful and provide a great amount caution and attention to a student can do safely at their level. Learning martial arts techniques makes exercising a lot less boring! They have excellent kids classes and make it safe, fun and effective for the kids to gain coordination and self confidence. A black belt instructor started 22 years ago at the school when he was 8!

I came to Wash Park because I wanted to learn how to defend myself in life-threatening situations while I traveled. I found that most martial arts dojos claimed to do this, but often only taught one-size-fits-all techniques. Wash Park teaches you how to actually defend yourself based on your own strengths, and without the fancy flourishes. You learn to use your opponent’s weight against them using subtle techniques, so size becomes irrelevant.I also appreciate that when you walk into the dojo, you can feel the humility and dedication to the art, without the superficial appearances of chain dojos. You certainly become family with everyone you train with. Not only do you learn the practical techniques of self-defense, but also the philosophical and historical values and purposes behind them, and learn lessons and skills such as honor, dignity, respect, and patience that extend to all areas of your life. This is a beautiful art taught by dedicated, skilled, and compassionate individuals, and I wish I could move back to Denver just so I could keep training with them!(and whenever I do visit I always feel welcome and like I can pick back up where I left off!)

I started training at WPMA at the age of 47. My plan was to take a few classes and move on with my life. After all, at my age, how much martial arts training could I do? But the warm, welcoming atmosphere of the dojo, the enthusiasm and support of the instructors and students made me fall in love with the school and the art. And I loved how training improved my strength, flexibility, balance and confidence. I swear that my training has turned back the clock and made me younger. That was twelve years ago, and I am now one of the instructors at the school. You never know what you can accomplish when you start taking classes at WPMA! I love it!

I sifted through a lot of over priced mcDojos in Denver before I found the Kusa Dojo. The atmosphere is laid back yet manages to maintain some of the more traditional formal elements of the art.The instructors are fantastic and everyone there is willing to help which makes learning the material a collaborative process. There is plenty of space to work which avoids overcrowding. Also, Sensei is creative with class exercises which really shows the versatility of the art.Having originally come from Kempo karate I can say this is by far the most balanced art I have had the pleasure of learning. I highly recommend checking it out.
