Firstly, I just wanted to say I got the help I needed and this isnt related to childcare. So far, my experience at this school has been great. Im a newer student at FGCU and I was trying to find my way around campus so I walk to the nearest place I could find. Not sure of the exact name but the little eagle learning center. I was met at the door by the centers director. I didnt catch a name but she had red hair. She did help me but I felt like she was very reluctant to guide me in the right direction. You know when someone just wants to get rid of you? Thats how I felt. She wasnt very welcoming and I understand it may be due to a personal issue or the fact that they might not have wanted random visitors due to COVID-19 (but I had just stood outside because she was almost blocking me from entering). Thats fine but I never stepped foot into the center. But honestly, she made me feel kind of foolish for asking for help. There wasnt any need to treat me as an annoyance. The rest of my experience here has been good though.

Nice school enjoyed my four years here, you’ll maybe use the beach a handful of times, it’s not that cool it’s a lake with gators, soar in 4 is a lie they only pay for your first year if you pay out of pocket, don’t use fafsa and don’t use florida prepaid or anything like that… the teachers are good some harder than others, attendance is mandatory in most classes with teacher’s having the liberty to cancel or not show up whenever, as if we, the students, don’t pay them… interesting, take lots of weird electives chances are you’ll enjoy them, the basketball team has fallen off since 2017 our baseball team and girls basketball is decent, no much of a party school so I guess it’s easy to focus on classes. Overall an easy school.

The staff is great and everything. However, this place is not suitable for nontraditional students. Every service you need closes before 4pm, all of their service feels like its more required to people who are traditionals or recent high School graduates. One time I was talking to one of the administrators in the University about a situation that affected my job and my school work . They told me that I shouldnt work while in school or I shouldnt be in school while in work. If you are a non-traditional student who is trying to get a better future and a better education this is not the right place. They always put traditional students first.

During my education at this school my parents divorced and I was in 2 car crashes, both of which contributed to me entering a deep depression. I failed most of my classes that semester, and requested an appeal from the school, including me writing an essay begging for another chance at retaking those courses, supplemented by a form from my psychiatrist. The school board still denied my request, and had the audacity to ask for further proof of my mental illness. When i asked my psychiatrist he said he literally could not provide more proof than he already had.To make a long story short, I would NOT recommend anyone to go to this school. They dont care about your health or any other issues in your life even when theyre negatively affecting your grades.

Not like the brick museums I usually come across while looking for colleges. Beautiful university, great professors, nice housing, good community, lots to do, lots of options for food, nature trails, lots of parking, easy to navigate, etc. Amazing university especially for environmental students. I love being a student here. Only complaint is that most of the general staff (not professors!) is rather unhelpful and difficult to work with. You constantly have to nag people and deal with incompetence just to get anything general done (housing, enrollment, fees, etc.). If you are a new student, try not to get discouraged by the incompetent staff because once you finally deal with the nonsense, the actual education and community aspects are worth it imo.

For example, theres a class called Video Game Design you would think they would teach you how to make a game, well the teacher doesnt! Its a slack off school! Its not a real school in my opinion since I learned nothing from here. I have enough credits to graduate but I am not allowed to graduate. I am so upset with this school!***Oh! Fair warning! This review is on the admissions process only. Our daughter applied to several colleges, and this was the smoothest by far. Not only were they the fastest school to accept her, but they also sent status update emails regularly. We did call them a couple of times, and they were quick to respond. They also had enough housing in January and February, so if youre out of the area, you dont have to stress about finding an apartment because the dorms are full. This is a drawback at some other Florida Universities.

As a student, Ive been consistently displeased with FGCUs service. They provide the education, nice buildings, decent teachers, and clean environments but they dont care about their students. You can call an office 18 times in a row and no one will ever answer. Go ahead, send an email. Send 5. No one ever responds to those either. You can show up to an office and sit outside for 20 minutes waiting to see someone who isnt even there and no one will tell you. You cant sign up for classes as everything fills up in minutes of the posting time, and you definitely dont have any leniency whatsoever. You cant cancel housing but you have to apply halfway through the prior semester. There is a clear lack of respect toward the students and it definitely ruins the experience overall.

Beautiful campus, great professors and amazing student housing. This school does far too much to try to fit into the elite academic progressive mentality. Requiring all students to have three credits of environmental education before graduation is basically a scam and ridiculous for non-science majors. Celebrating the book Silent Spring each year is a huge joke if you know anything about the genocide that was created by banning the production of DDT years ago, of which Silent Spring is mostly credited for. That said, the good outweighs the bad and my experience here was overall very positive.

This school is literally a joke. Im a working college student meaning that I need to work in order for me to be able to afford bills at the end of the month so there is not a lot of time between school and work for me to do much but then because this is a university they feel like they can make up what ever rules they want like required volunteering its no longer volunteering if its required, and they dont want to make an exception to the rule no wonder a lot of people like me are transferring out. If you are a daddy or mommys girl and dont have to work a day in your life then go here and party just like everyone else does. Im transferring to a different school for a reason.

This is a beautiful campus. My son is attending on scholarship and really enjoys it. I cant give it five stars for one reason. And I have seen other reviews stating the same problem so I know it was not our fault. The admissions office claimed to have not received my sons transcripts AFTER he had been accepted, assigned a dorm room and taken our deposit. He had to send an actual hard copy of his transcripts overnight FedEx. When applying, you really have to stay on top of the admissions office because they seem to have problems with the computer systems.

The only reason I didnt give a one start is because their are a lot of available classes any semester and you dont find that at all universities but that said I did put off getting required credits because the class or classes I wanted to take werent offered any of the 6 semesters I was there. I left because advising and other staff were horribly rude and couldnt give straight answers and I asked if I was okay to drop some classes for medical reasons and I was told it was fine and Id be fine for the next semester but actually I had to do a bunch of paperwork and because I didnt know the next semester came and they told me I was in financial suspension and wouldnt be getting any of my FASFA or aid and that was the last straw as there were many other transgressions. When I toured it was my dream school and when I left it had become my nightmare.

Just wanted to post a public service announcement that the WiFi is genuinely terrible at FGCU since this is not something you generally think about when choosing a school. for 4 years I relied on hotspots from my phone to be able to access crucial homework websites in places that should obviously have Wifi like the library. Something not too encouraging about getting a technology related degree from a school that doesnt even have the ability to support web based student activity. So just be warned.

Review №57

Im writing this review in response to the negative comments Ive seen, and the topics/problems they describe. Im an incoming freshman with test accommodations, specific housing, transfer credits from Duel Enrollment, and with a food allergy. FGCU has been nothing but amazing, when visiting I was welcomed with warm smiles and a friendly atmosphere. They are at the pique of environmental awareness, with a food forest, campus-wide solar power, a food forest, and 400 acres of reserved nature. The dorms and buildings are modern, with the dorm rooms being some of the best I have seen. Ive attended a multitude of their events, and have visited/compared them to other universities, and few even come close to this school.Volunteering Requirement:FGCU does have a graduation requirement of 80 volunteer hours for incoming freshmen, and 40 for transfer students with 60+ credits. This equates to 20 volunteer hours a year, or 10 a semester. Students can earn hours doing on campus work, off campus work, and participating in event planing. I understand this is not for everyone, but with having around 365 days to complete 20 hours, for most this would be a simple task. I understand fully that people who have to work 1-4 full time jobs to pay for university may not be able to do this, but there are options that can assist with this. There is a Live Learn Community housing option that focuses on volunteering, as well as tending to the food forest. This would be able to provide ample opportunity for those who have difficulty finding time to volunteer.Accessibility (testing):For accessibility, FGCU has one of the most detail oriented Accessibility offices Ive seen. The rooms are fantastic, the accommodating spaces are wonderful, and I had no problem getting my papers approved. If you/your child had to get accommodations for the ACT/SAT, use the same paperwork for that. If not, send a letter to your pediatrician/specialist for them to write out the details of you/your childs condition/disability. You can also type it out yourself, in detail, exactly what your conditions entail along with the specific accommodation needed for it. Then send that letter to the doctor to get it revised and approved. After getting the paper written and approved, send it to the office for accommodations. With this, it should get approved.Food Allergy:I have a gluten allergy, which means I cannot eat any food that contains gluten. Including seasonings and sauces such as soy sauce, teriyaki, most BBQ sauces, various seasonings...the list goes on. When going to FGCU, they had the best accommodation to my allergy. It was one of the few universities I didnt get sick at when eating there. They had Gluten Free pancakes, waffles, pizza, BBQ, fries, bread, seasonings, sides, and everything you could think of. Now, they recently added gluten free options to the menu as a constant, but yo do have to request for the Pizza and pancakes/waffles to be made. All you need to do is ask one of the chefs by the allergy station. If you have another form of allergy, they will sit you down with their head chef and nutritionist and create your food plan. After that, they will be in contact with you for when you eat.FGCU is an amazing university with kind staff, forward thinking operations, superb campus security, and one of the most student-focused dorms ever. Out of all colleges Ive seen, FGCU is the most well rounded, only being 20 years old.

I just cant say enough about the experience I had while attending FGCU. As everyone will tell you, it is a beautiful campus that leaves very little to be desired in terms of its appearance.Student housing is another perk. I cant imagine a better on-campus style of student life. That is not for everyone, especially me, and I am happy to say there are great options for those wishing to stay CLOSE to campus but not ON campus. The facilities on campus are also fabulous. Class sizes range from 180+ to 12-15. I thought that was great because I felt like I got to experience both a large University setting and a small/private University setting as well. The administration is fabulous and organized, which is important for ANY student, but especially those who are on scholarship or any kind of financial assistance. Also, university president Dr. Bradshaw is the man. He supports FGCU at as many sports/academic functions imaginable. No event is too big or too small; he is there.Sports at FGCU have been improving in terms of national success, but regionally/locally they are simply dominant. FGCU competes in the Atlantic Sun Conference in NCAA Division I. I would be willing to bet that in the last 4-5 years, across all sports, FGCU has won more A-Sun titles than the other top 3 schools combined. Basically, in the A-Sun, FGCU dominates and watching them do so is always a good time. The teachers are great, and with average class sizes around 30 students you can really get to know them and vice versa. That is important to most any student. I received excellent experience and advice from my teachers which ultimately led to my pre-graduation employment in the field of my choice. Cant beat that.If I had to complain about one thing regarding FGCU it would be the heat. Florida is hot, but the swamplands of Southwest Florida is not to be underestimated. It is scolding. Kids will literally fry eggs on the pavement as a means of entertainment. Average feels like temperature I would guess to be in 90s. Humidity year round. Just overall a swath of inescapable scolding clouds follow you like your own shadow EVERYWHERE YOU GO. However, the scales are leveled by surrounding beautiful beaches, even more beautiful women, and shorts - all year long!

Do not go here. Especially if you or your child need financial aid. The faculty and staff at this school are the most unhelpful and rude people I have ever met. I sincerely regret going to this school. The financial aid department has been nothing but unhelpful and unprofessional, the financial advisors have no idea what they are doing. I went into the office several times and emailed many times as well throughout the semester to figure out what was needed to get my financial aid processed and the advisors did not do their job right and waited till it came about time to register for classes to tell me they still needed more items to process my financial aid. So without the financial aid I was unable to register for classes and all the classes I needed filled up. I contacted FAFSA and they told me everything I needed on their end was complete so it was only the schools financial aid department making extra requests that was keeping me from getting financial aid. Requests that shouldve been made aware of to me the many times I asked throughout the semester what I needed to get this done. And the director of the financial aid department refused to wave the hold on my account to allow me to be able to register for classes, even though it was their fault that my financial aid still hadnt been processed. So I highly recommend choosing another school because if you ever need help from any sort of administration here they will screw you over.

Most teachers I have communicated with are helpless with trying to enrichen their students education and mostly just follow the motions RATHER than teaching in a manner that promotes greater learning. I had to make this review after I called undergraduate admissions for a second time and I kindly explained my situation to a very upset woman why I was unable to register for my next semester classes in a timely manner and she would only reply that is what I see on my screen to any of my concerns even through her information was wrong and she did not give a single care about me being able to register for my next semester classes. I never received any type of disrespectfulness to that extent from my previous school.

I am not a student or faculty. I enjoy using the library at the campus.

I submitted my application now 4 months ago and still have yet to hear anything from them. I have called countless times to try to figure out why they havent received my transcripts (being that i sent them when i first filled out my application). Seeing that they had lost my transcript i sent it a second time and a month later it is still showing that they havent received it. I am very frustrated considering i was really looking forward to going to this school, but now im not so sure id like to go to a university where they cant even keep track of my transcript.
