The academy has pushed me through a lot of things and it gets me out of the house. From the instructors to the kids. As a seventeen year old that is doesn’t talk in class and likes quiet spaces the academy can definitely get your head spinning, but as you get to know every kid that goes there it gets a little calmer because it’s not just a bunch of children screaming anymore - it’s your family bonding together as one.

This Academy, their after school program, their Capoeira curriculum, their camps, EVERYTHING, is the best experience of my kids (11yo girl and 5yo boy) lives. Mel and Sam Urai are the best! Their focus on family, values, martial arts, music, language, arts and social relationships is beaten by no one else in town. I never trust my kids to anyone and they were the first I trusted, and it was the best decision. God bless the Capoeira Academy of Gainesville!!!

Were lucky to have Instructor Samurai and his accredited academy here in Gainesville. Hes incredibly passionate and brings a balance of skill, functionality, musicality, culture, language, positivity, and life philosophy to every single class. They have classes for kids, teens, and adults so come check it out! :)

I really appreciate the experience I had this summer when I enrolled my 6 year old son, Luke, in the Summer Camp for two weeks. First off, I was very impressed with Instructor Samurais playful demeanor with the children. There was a lot of laughter happening. Luke was new capoeira and would practice the moves and Brazilian language at home just for fun. He loved the games that Instructor Samurai would play with him as part of the capoeira training. Luke’s confidence would waiver at times, especially when offered a new skill that was challenging. I observed the kids to be challenged to try new things, which sometimes was met with resistance. Here I witnessed several times where Instructor Samurai was grounded, disciplined, empathic, and deeply nurturing. Through the course of the two weeks, I really saw my son grow. Thank you Instructor Samurai and Melissa for giving the kids so much. mind, body, and heart.
