We will be returning each year. This virtual school has allowed my children to be rewarded with the most engaging curriculum, most compassionate, friendly, and reliable teachers/staff in the Virginia school system, and absolutely the best structured schedule that also ensures an age appropriate flexibility for the children and parent (learning coach). My children have gained a confidence toward education that I have not seen elsewhere. I am pleased, beyond words, and extremely grateful.

We would look to say a HUGE thank you to Mrs. Spring. She has been so impactful in my sons academics. We have never had any issue as school, and I was always told my son is a solid student all around. Once we joined VAVA, we completed the student assessments and found out how far behind he was in language arts. The brick and mortar school failed my son, and I didn’t know the extent until I became his learning coach. Mrs. Spring went above and beyond to help my son go beyond his academic level. She has been extremely responsive, helpful, and gave us great tools. I cannot say enough how grateful I am to have had Mrs. Spring as out homeroom teacher. She has been such a light in my son’s academic journey.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Elijahs teach Mary Foglia who has been not only a great teacher but who supported us along the way during our time of loss these past few months. The love and support felt from her and other staff has been vital to us moving forward and his ability to stay abreast of his school work despite watching his father suffer and eventually die from cancer. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!Joanne & Elijah Johnson

My second-grader and I have had a wonderful experience with VAVA. The curriculum is so comprehensive and engaging. My child has learned and grown so much and being able to go at her own faster pace has kept her from becoming bored. Her teacher, Mrs. Vargas, is always so attentive, easy to reach, and specifically aware of our needs. My daughter has really excelled in this program because the curriculum, materials, teacher, and support are exceptional!

I have definitely expressed my gratitude towards Dr. S. Chennis through out the school year and have no reservations doing so again publicly. Online learning was a speedy alternative of making it through this pandemic until science could catch up with a solution. I was worried, Judah is talented and gifted and we all know those children are special in all sorts of manners. Dr. Chennis was so patient and understanding as Judah learned the rules of etiquette regarding technology. He understands and appreciates technology, but he is definitely a pen and paper soul. There were times when Dr. Chennis would personally call when she had a concern with Judah and immediately though of solutions to better his involvement in school work. Every piece of advice I received from here resonated well and his attitude towards online school turned for the better. I actually sat in a couple of classes while she taught and I found them very engaging and catchy. Judah didnt complain at all, well for the occasional talented and gifted usual complain of, this is boring.

Since the first week of June, I have submitted and resubmitted the required documentation, spoken to more than 12 people, and no one can actually address what is holding up the admissions process. On the 18th my So-called “report card” was rejected for the 3rd time. on the 19th it was accepted... On the 22nd it has been rejected again. This is just one of numerous items. Every item has had its issues. This is why the government-run systems fail. And why we have homeschooled up to now. Of course now, I’ve missed the deadline to submit my NOI. This has been three weeks of trying to comply with the silliest requests and have it denied for the pettiest of reasons. It’s been back and forth knit-picking and I’m wondering why in the world I thought it was a good idea to subject our family to this insanity.

Wow. This has been the most excruciating experience. Just trying to enroll my daughter who suffers from mental illness. Initially was all great. The representative was nice and she walked me through the website and helped me with initial enrollment procedures. Months later someone else called, then weeks later a third person took over. Communication kept on going from bad to worse since the last rep didnt know exactly what I needed to submit in order to enroll. He read from a script and when asked specific questions he read from the same script again. When i told him give me a straight forward answer, he said he was trying but I wasnt letting him. So I shushed and he proceeded to read the same info to me that he had given me.I resubmitted all paperwork. Got denied. We talked again. He again responded by reading from the script. So, after talking to him on the phone 3 times at least and getting no where, I asked him to email me the requirements and specific paperwork I needed to submit. He sent me (again) a general email no specific info) and then cancelled my application. He might have thought I was a pain-Mr. M. Nadim, with terrible customer service. Poor communication skills. Your follow up consisted on calling me back, just to say you followed up and check a box. This looks like a mess...and thats not even going into the learning yet.... sad. Do NOT recommend to anyone.

Coming to VAVA was the best decision I ever made for my two sons. This is our second year with VAVA (grades 4 and 5 now) and my sons are thriving. Last year, my son took his VA Studies SOL in 10 minutes and scored a perfect score. Both scored high on math and reading as well. The teachers are wonderful, the administrators are responsive and helpful, and the schoolwork keeps them challenged and motivated. The new FLEX program is also fantastic for my boys!

My daughter is thriving in VAVA. She is engaged, digging deep into different subjects, and is motivated. More than academics, my daughter is learning time management, responsibility, and self-motivation. This program is wonderful. It is an online public school, with the same requirements as your local public school: attendance, curriculum, etc. There is flexibility within the framework, but you still have state parameters. This is not a FREE home-school program where you get free curriculum and do what you want. If you are looking for a strong, rigorous, in-depth program with teachers to guide the way, this may be for you. We will continue with VAVA. It is a great fit for our family.

Review №43

I have 2 students enrolled at VAVA. This is my oldest childs 4th year. In its beginnings, VAVA was structured more like an online homeschool with flexible schedules and some self-paced learning. It was a welcome respite to the rigidity of traditional school and accommodated busy families nicely. Over the years, the program has deteriorated to dysfunction. Required attendance to live classes mimic traditional school schedules. This would not seem a terrible thing in and of itself, but it does not serve the purpose of many families choosing homeschool. Attendance requirements have parents and students scrambling to meet strict deadlines. To make matters worse, administrators will hound you tirelessly regarding your childs attendance and performance. If your family is unable to attend required sessions, they end up zeros in the gradebook creating a snowball effect of misery for you and your student. State standardized tests are required so you dont escape SOLs. To further complicate issues, the UA is unstable and clunky. You cannot view your students progress in real time and truthfully you cannot track your students progress reliably without logging in AS THE STUDENT. Ridiculous. There is an app that could be a great resource, but it is worthless as the information is always a day behind. The servers are always crashing. The constant updates and patches leave parents and students adrift with no sense of direction. My first year middle schooler has been completely left behind, mostly because there is no order in the curriculum. There are expectations for parent and student accountability where none exist for the school or administration. Further more, if you or your student fail to live up to their standards, there is the constant threat of expulsion. It almost seems like the whole thing is being intentionally sabotaged to discourage families from choosing homeschool. In short, while it may be a good short-term solution for some, I would not recommend VAVA for families looking for alternatives to traditional school. It is more of the same misery and disappointment.

VAVA was a good choice for my son. He has been struggling with all things school. Weve been doing our work and never missed a class connect. That is when they called child services on me because I didnt feel good and was in bed instead of sitting beside my son for class. Its hell to have cops come knocking prepared to take your kids away. Be careful if you decide to use VAVA, youll want to be right there even when youre sick and even if you have other kids to tend to. Were leaving at the end of the year... 3 months left and Im definitely leaving with a bad taste in my mouth.

This is our 2nd yr w k-12 and its been great. Now as a parent it takes up a whole bunch of time with the younger grades and gets easier the older they are. Being a stay at home parent is probably best for doing this but if ur a awesome parent you may be able to juggle both! The teachers and all the other staff are great. They have all gone above and beyond to make sure my kids and I are on track! But I havent always had happy thought towards online public schooling or k-12. It can be very VERY stressful BUT it passes just learn from ur mistakes and keep on keeping on, its oh so worth it! Watching your child learn new things and knowing I helped do this IS THE BEST FEELING EVER!!! So my kids have class connect almost every day and these are great this is when they have time w their teachers. Ok this is long enough but k-12 is great! Thx yall.

If I could give no stars I would. I have intense anxiety when it comes to school. All the noise and the bright lights and shooting threats we get actually makes me scared to step into a building so I thought Id try K-12 and it sent me to this awful school. Their website is not user friendly whatsoever. You have to go through 3 different tabs just to get to your assignment and its insanely laggy. So I tried to unenroll. Took them three weeks of phone tag to do it and when they did, they didnt contact us about it even happening so we had sat there like sitting ducks for an additional few days. Now Im drastically behind in the school year because I took a chance I deeply regret. Im currently checking into wether I can take legal action against VaVa or not. Hope you dont make the same mistake I did :)

We call the only number that is on their website and get a rep from K12 and they cant tell us why he is not eligible. This is total BS since now I have to try to get school supplies for my son and only have about 2 weeks to get everything. I will never try to use this company again. My experience, much like the other reviewer was the same. They cant figure out applications that might get accidentally out of order. They also cannot figure out that, since I submitted my proof of residence, I do not need the form to use instead of that. In addition, they refuse to give me a timeframe on how long it will take to review the documents I submitted and tell me if my son is even eligible for their school. He is already behind and has special needs (IEP) and they are just making EVERYTHING worse!!! It is a NIGHTMARE! DO NOT EVER USE THEM!!!!
