I trained at 5 big name even as traveling in la. Shawn Williams, the pinnacle professor, taught an superb class and protected many techniques/standards for passing. all of the men I trained with welcomed me like circle of relatives and had been very technical/hard rolls. clearly take a look at this academy out in case youre on the town.

One of the mottos at Renzo Gracie Los Angeles is that its not a gym, its a family. They truly live by that motto. My son is on Autism Spectum and that can be a challenge for not just him but also instructors. Steve Calderon was fully invested in making sure that my son could succeed at Renzo Gracie. he went out of his way to make not just my son but my family feel welcomed and comfortable at the gym.You dont always get that kind of support with a child on the spectrum and it was so wonderful to watch his team put in the efforts to help him succeed. If youre thinking about putting your children in Jiu Jitsu and I highly recommend it be at Renzo Gracie Los Angeles.

I have been training bjj at RGLA since November 2019. As a beginner to martial arts, I have been very impressed with the facilities, instruction and community. During these stressful covid times, having a way to release tension physically has been a game changer. The team at RGLA even MOVED LOCATIONS so we are able to safely train outside. I could go on and on with adoration, but why don’t you come see for yourself? Take a free intro class and who knows; maybe you can change your life too.

I reached out to 5 Star while in town for work. The staff responded right away and welcomed my drop-in. I spent an evening in classes with two different instructors plus some open mat. I not only learned great techniques, but experienced a warm welcome. Instruction was clear, concise and effective. It was a great experience and I look forward to visiting again on future trips.

I have been training here at 5 Star for a little over 5 months now and its been amazing. Everyone is incredibly friendly and I look forward to coming to train every week. Coming to a martial arts gym with no martial arts experience was intimidating but they welcomed me with open arms. Highly recommend this gym to everyone and anyone of all ages. Shoutout to Coach Al and Joe, you guys are the best!

Fantastic place to learn and train BJJ. I dropped in on a visit to LA from Atlanta this week, and was greeted with peak hospitality. Coach Luis was passionate, knowledgable, detailed and fun. There was a healthy variety of belt levels training that day, and all were extremely courteous and well mannered. Showers and lockers included at the facility. Gym is slightly hard to find as the lobby doesnt have marking on where it is, but its a short walk from lobby. If Im in LA again, Ill be back!

Coach Mike is a class act. I brought my two young children ages 5 & 6, and he quite frankly won them over. Personable and kind, with a great sense of understanding of timid children, Coach Mike is a coach I sincerely recommend to any reluctant parent. I first visited two other martial arts centers before settling on this place. Youll notice the difference, too.

Friendly instructors but they would not stop charging me even after submitting multiple doctors letters, including a permenant one. Tried out maybe 2 times but got charged 159 x 3. Very unreasonable. Almost wanting to contact local Better Business Bureau. I will have to contact my credit card company again for dispute. Be careful before signing up

You will not find a better place to train at in Los Angeles than Five Star. All of the programs and instruction is top notch! Professor Shawn Williams is one of a kind when it comes to teaching BJJ. The detail he puts into his teaching really helps you understand what to do and why. Kru John is the head of the Muay Thai program and he brings a lot of experience and detail to his classes as well. The facility is super clean and you wont find a better group of people to train with. Whether your looking for classes for your child or yourself, Five Star has great programs for everyone. If you are in the L.A area and are looking for a place to train, do yourself a favor and go to Five Star!

Visited LA and had to go into another Renzo Gracie school. Professor Williams had given a great seminar at my academy a few months before, and so I knew that I needed to stop in and see. The staff was great, the professors were clear, concise and demanding. I learned some useful BJJ and enjoyed the rolls with my training partners. If you are in this area of LA, I recommend this academy.

When I first entered 5 Star Martial Arts to ask about classes for my 5-year old daughter I was welcomed by the amazing kid-friendly and professional staff. My daughter quickly embraced the place and wanted to start classes right away (combination of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) and Muay Thai Boxing). If you talk to any parent that takes their child to 5 Star Martial Arts, you will hear the same responses, they are like second family and kids are benefiting from these classes. Parents commented about taking their children to other martial arts classes and by far this is the best place. The kids classes are structured and kids stay focused. Apparently, at other schools the kids play around and they dont really learn much.Soon afterwards, Mom and Dad began taking both Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Again you will be surprised how friendly the staff AND the students are in these adult programs. The coaches model this friendly and helpful behavior and the students follow suit. Even as a newbie, the more advanced students treat you with respect and help you along during training.Schedule is flexible and there are classes 7 days a week starting from 7am classes for training before work with a shower and locker room for use. The last class also starts either 8pm or 8:30pm during different days of the week.

Ive been training at 5 Star Martial Arts for about 2 years now and every time I go in I find that it is filled with challenges that I enjoy and people that I love training with. The head instructor Shawn Williams, who is a Renzo Gracie Black Belt, is an amazing mixture of friendly, professional and highly capable all rolled up in one package. He is widely know for his ability to teach Brazillian Jiu Jitsu to the everyday student as well as high end professional competitors. His team of coaches are nothing but spectacular as well and you would do yourself a favor to visit the school if you are interested in BJJ.

Ive trained Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with Shawn Williams for more than 3.5 years now and have had the most wonderful experience at 5 Star Martial Arts. Some things to touch upon...1. Instruction:Professor Williams and Coach Dane are particularly detail-oriented and very technical. They are the best youll get on the West Coast! All of the coaches and upper belts are also very approachable and helpful, and you never feel out of place. The instructors create a very welcoming, familial environment, so youre never made to feel uncomfortable if and when you have questions. The new curriculum also makes it easy for those training to figure out what lessons and techniques theyve missed out on so that you can make it up at a later time.2. FacilitiesThe academy is VERY clean. The mats are swept up and disinfected after classes. Its not smelly, disgusting, or gross. There are plenty of showers to go around, so youll never really find yourself waiting a long time to shower. In terms of the locker rooms, I can only speak for the women when I say that the locker rooms are clean. Ive never been in the mens locker room, but I can only assume theirs is pretty clean too. There is plenty of mat space, and the mats are nice to train on, clean and soft. Parking is easy and free (at the right times and locations). The academy might be difficult to locate, but rest assured, if you are at what looks like an office building at the corner of Crenshaw and Wilshire, youre at the right place. Walk right in, and youll find the academy on the first floor.... Welcome to awesomeness!3. Training PartnersEveryone at the academy is pretty darn cool. Whether or not youre a beginner or a seasoned jiu-jitsu player, they all make you feel really comfortable. One of the things I, as a female, really enjoy is that there are plenty of other females to train with at the academy. Theyre all very hard working and most are regulars on the mat. Some are on the competition team and others train for recreation and regular exercise. Regardless, theyre all very fun to train with!4. But wait! Theres more!!Youll find the best BJJ, Muy Thai, and Kettlebells instructors all under the same roof. Kru John Spezzano teaches the Muy Thai and Kettlebells classes (each with their own space in the academy). If I listed all of his accolades on this page, Id run out of space. Mike Farrell teaches the kids classes, so if youre looking for just the right role model and instructor for your kids, I am positive your kids will have a blast with Coach Mike.I live 45 minutes away and venture to 5 Star Martial Arts for all of these reasons, which are COMPLETELY worth it. Come give it a try, and see if its the right academy for you. =)
