I have been deeply impressed with the quality of the school, the caring of the staff, and their ability to jump and thrive in distant learning. The small class size makes sure that our teen is excited about participating, even in the classes they are less naturally interested in. When Ive had questions or concerns about my teen, Ive always been able to get the help needed and love that we have such access to all staff at anytime. Their online portal to see upcoming work and communicate has been especially helpful during the pandemic, but we cant wait for that in person community. And their staff is always willing to go above and beyond to help kids thrive.

This is such a hidden gem for high quality individualized education - more people should know about. My 11th grader loves going to school every day, albeit by distance learning. The seminar-style classroom with low teacher-student ratio provides the opportunity to deepen each student’s learning, encourage critical thinking and nurture one’s passion. Such learning model is seamlessly translated into the online setting. The study body although small is quite diverse with various interests and backgrounds, and my son is learning everyday from passionate teachers and peers. What I’m most impressed by is the focus on individual growth, both intellectual as well as emotional, making sure each student is challenged in pursuit of their passion. So glad we found this school.

Areté has been a wonderful school for my son. Its flexible and tailored to each individual child. The academics are strong, and its goal is to support the passions and interests of each kid. My son has been so inspired and enriched by his time there. Its a school that works to provide a great launching pad for its students into the world.

My son is highly gifted and needed a school that could challenge him academically but also help with his executive functioning skills. We found in Arete a place where he is both challenged and supported simultaneously. A claim many schools make but very few can actually deliver on. Middle school and high school can be difficult as our kids move toward becoming adults. We are thrilled to have Arete as a true partner in this transition. The school seems more than capable of meeting each child where they are academically and push them to strive towards Aporia (being open enough to know when you don’t something). I feel that this school, with its Socratic dialectic in each class is helping to create a life long learner in my son. A trait that I know will serve him well for the rest of his life.

My son just finished his freshman year at Arete. He is engaged, challenged and happy. His love of math and science have been reignited thanks to the passionate teachers and small class sizes that allow students to question, dive deep and lean further into areas of interest. Teachers adjust classes to match the students curiosity, keeping them ever more engaged. Weve been particularly impressed that they manage to apply Socratic learning in practice. In other words, they walk the talk. Classes are small so teachers and staff really know my kid, which is nice as they encourage his independence and learning. Oh, also that Socractic method -- my son has learned how to have actual discourse. I hear him apply it to discussions outside of class with other students and adults. He likes his friends. High schoolers get to go to lunch at Sawtelle, which is a big plus for him. Its a small school. People are friendly and personable. Its a nice group of parents too. And its easy for kids to talk to teachers. A lot of support. They have a study period, which my son loves because he can get most of his home work done there. Plus, work outside of class is thoughtful and useful, not just busy work. Overall, he loves going to school and hes learning! Were very happy with this school and recommend it if you want your kid to be curious, engaged and prepared for college and life...while having a fun life at school!

Describe my experience: an obscenely expensive joke of a “school”.

This school is very progressive. They have a scholarship program that gives scholarships to students who can not afford to have a good education. There are also 2 Areté Preps one in Arizona and one in Los Angeles they are 2 separate schools owned by different people. Their school description get mixed together on Google maps.I am giving the los Angeles Arete 5 stars not the Arizona one, because I have never been to Arete in Arizona.
