I am a former student at Math and Science College Prep and it is great being a part of this school ,unlike other schools the teachers and staff dedicate as much time as necessary to the student and always exceed barriers to try to bring the best quality of education to the students. As a result of this school being a charter education is priority and therefore is mandatory!Dont miss understand this either as we are very athletic and competitive in both sports and education.

Gives opportunity to the community with core STEM based field learning experience, with small classes for better hands on experience and help. Really pushes students to achieve success by prepping them for university completion.

I love this school so much it is great the education is more than excellent and the people you meet there really impact your life because they make you feel welcomed

Okay, to start it off: this is a great school. Hands down. Cue explanation and story and blah.Now, if I had dared post a review about 4 years ago, I might have felt differently about this still-new charter school. When it first started out, the school was located in the bungalows (is that what its called? Its located in the other side of LA High) of the previously mentioned high school. Having been promised only the hope of getting their child into college, my parents reluctantly had me enrolled into the school.Unsurprisingly, I felt doubt and anxiety for the first couple years in this school. I mean, an entirely new charter school? Promising the first-generation students, the possibly FIRST graduating class for about 4 years, to get into college without actual, legit reassurance?..Thats where the changes come in: during the years in high school, MSCP (thats what its called) started to undergo some huge changes. Specifically, the new addition of office staff and more teachers with potential. While there may be those who argue that some of the teachers need a bit more... improvement (this is ESPECIALLY true for the newcomers, such as freshman and perhaps sophomores), I can definitely argue that the teachers above the beginning years of high school are outstanding. Especially the math teachers, to which they are something MANY (if not, all) schools are severely lacking.Time-skip to present, this school seems to have great potential in having the students excel at what can be perceived as the most horrible, dreadful subject ever: math. I mean, thats literally in the schools name. As for English... Im not going to explore further on the subject since everyone pretty much excels at it. Heres some advice: take on some AP English classes. Theyll be challenging, and are absolutely worth the try once you receive college credits from taking them.The counselors there are fantastic. Need help in deciding college(s), classes? Or maybe worried for the future and go through an existential crisis? The obvious solution would be to visit the counselors office. Heck, even talking about it with the teachers is also fine: they all went to college as well. So dont be afraid to bother them frequently: its their job to help you out.The food there.. Its okay. Actually, I liked the blessed times of when spicy chicken wings existed (which was in the very first freshman year). As for now... I heard they used to do Pizza Fridays. And they were actually good. Square pizzas? Absolutely disgusting! No, Im talking about legitimate, triangle pizzas delivered to the school. I was a witness, and they really did do that back then. ... At least you get nutrition and lunch time (and technically breakfast before school starts).Making friends there.. Well, to be honest, Im not much of a social butterfly or anything so Ill answer in the perspective of my brother: as long as you keep talking to those who you MAY have known in your previous school(s), it is actually easy to befriend the people in this school. In his case, he had tried the summer program provided by MSCP and ended up gaining a few friends that eventually multiplied once the school year actually started. ... Actually, I did this same approach when I first started high school. I fortunately met a couple of friends I had known from elementary and middle school that eventually allowed me to befriend more people. By my fourth, final year, I was able to know nearly all of the seniors. And even some who were younger. For those who are incredibly shy and awkward, I suggest joining the clubs and sports. That will DEFINITELY give you the chance to make friends.Im saying this now so that lunch time wont suck as much. Or when you have to do a group project where you pick your members. Theyre pretty awkward. lolAs a senior who had just graduated from this school, I think MSCP has done a wonderful job in getting all of us into a college or university. Go Sharks. :)
