Studio 5 at least was bad. Not much space, two huge pillars blocking the way. And it didnt help that theres a huge Zoom Class setup in front (complete PC equipment) thats blocking the mirror. Its also too dark.I understand that the choreographers are popular so you have to come in early to get a good spot. But when youre tall, of course you have to be considerate of others and move to the back. A good studio should be a good experience for everyone in the class regardless of where in the room theyre positioned. They should limit the number of people in the in-person class especially since theres COVID (AND they already have virtual students).Got nothing against the choreographers! The one I attended in was good and nice. I just wish I was able to learn the dance better by actually seeing the instructor. Would look for the choreographer again but maybe in a different studio.

Terrible experience. Very messy management. It was my first time come here, no one guided me or tutor me what should I do. There is also no clear level standard. After I found my classroom, everyone had their position, so I only stand alone in the behind corner. the teacher did not care about me at all. My class is basic ballet, the teacher is professional and friendly, but she did not introduced anything, or pointed out what I did right or wrong, just simply let us follow her movements. If no reaction or comment, why I choose a in-person class?

I went in this studio for dance lessons during my holidays in the summer 2 years ago. I really appreciated that we could register only a bit before the lesson and that it was opened to any kind of people (just chosing the right level for the class). The teachers and lessons were good but sometimes the studios were a bit crowded with students, its hard to dance when you are stuck to some other people and to have individual advice or corrections when there are so many people attending the same lesson. I guess it the side effect of the success. But good experience mainly.

This review is being posted late. I had wanted to pick up new some techniques for a class I was teaching. I do not have strong ballet technique, hence I took a ballet class and durning class the instructor only gave me one comment that was good (with a smart tone attached to it). Basically he insisted that I was not important as the other students and in some of his other comments he made that very clear. I read some of the other reviews too late. Basically when taking a class here check reviews first so you dont get stuck with a rude instructor. Its apparent that the studio needs to invest in appropriate training for their staff.

I can say from experience that this studio is top notch in terms of the ensemble of teachers that have been assembled. They teach you tap, jazz, hip hop, ballet, musical theatre dance, singing, and some acting as well. If you wish to learn how to dance in any of these styles of dance in order to be a performer on stage or just as a hobby, you will want to be there because they are the best. Even senior citizens take tap dance classes; trust I have been in class with them many times before.

My daughter was 11 and they allowed her to take a class while she was on vacation in NYC. Her teacher was great, but called out the fact that there was a small, younger dancer in the back (my daughter didn’t appreciate) It was her first time doing something like that.. taking a class like that. However, after negotiating in or out, she stayed in... and decided that she would definitely do it again in the future.

The best place for kids to dance and learn from the best instructors in the industry in the Northeast. They all have such a great positive attitude which transfers over naturally to the kids and helps them grow with self confidence and high self esteem. My daughter has only danced in their teen program for a few months but her self esteem and confidence has grown light years. Im so thankful for this amazing group of professionals. They help keep the passion alive in dancers that otherwise may be burnt out by frivolous unnecessary drama. They run a great program. Worth every penny!!!

I love the Broadway Dance Center. Massive variety of classes offering all kinds of different levels with incredibly experienced and talented instructors. My personal favorites are the VOGUEING and AFRICAN dance classes with Omar, who is so fun and knowledgeable, and the environment is very welcoming and encouraging, even for newbies like myself. My biggest recommendation when going here is be conscious to go to a class that’s at your level or an all levels class, and be willing to get out of your comfort zone and have fun with it. You’ll get the most out of your experience that way

The beginner class is NOT for beginners at all. My wife suggests the class was well above immediate. When we entered the lobby we were asked to sign up. My wife filled out her details while the girl behind the counter was too busy texting to help or even smile. We were on holiday from Australia and she is an intermediate in her class back home.My wife attended a beginner class that had an older male teacher, Mr Hoffman. She was really looking forward to attend the class and even brought her ballet leotard overseas.Mr Hoffman didnt introduce himself or welcome ANY of the students. He slapped a students foot during the class and expected my wife to be a professional in a beginners walk in class. She left the class early after the teacher slapped a students foot and didnt feel at all welcome in the class. This ballet school needs to lift its game and not employ teachers who use old, outdated techniques with no manners or personal welcome.1 star is more than I would give, and I will be contacting the school via email for answers.

I realized that the shoes I wanted, and the shoes that were comfortable and fit my foot, were very different. Still, Im so happy with the look and feel of my new, swanky tap shoes. Everyone was really helpful even though Im just a beginner and not a professional dance. Thanks Broadway Dance!

You cannot record, what you paid $22 for. I love dancing and have been dancing for over 9 years, and my dance teachers have always encouraged me to take the material home to further study it. I cannot afford to pay $400+ a month on classes, so I record to learn. The dance instructor was recording the dance class, so I decided to as well. She told me, you cannot record, and I told her, But your recording right now What if it does not go on YouTube? Then you forget what you paid for.

Completely disappointed with the experience. I was eager to take a class there since it was my first time in NYC (and i probably wont return for a while). I was already sad the teachers that were recommended to me had substitutes covering for them this week. Nevertheless, I decided to go for it.For a class at 3pm, with all the hassle of nys public transport, I had to clear my afternoon for this class. Arriving at 2:30pm, did all the registration, the staff was nice, friendly and helpful. The class started at 3pm, everyone walked in, started stretching but the teacher, Nijawwon Matthews substituting for Slam, didnt show up!!! At 3:30pm, someone from the crew told us the class was cancelled. They offered to swap to another class but everything had already started 30 minutes before! The staff was still helpful and gave me a full refund for that. But I am now left disappointed, cant take any other class since Im leaving, and I lost an entire afternoon of sightseeing...

Honestly, I had the worst dance class of my life today. After dancing for 10 years, I took a 13 year hiatus. I recently wanted to get back into dance, fully aware Id be rusty. The class today (beginning ballet) was awful. The instructor singled me out numerous times, asked me to dance behind a pillar away from everyone else and unable to actually see the choreography. There was nothing supportive or positive, and sadly something I used to love was momentarily destroyed. The instructor hardly demonstrated any of the sequences, and just assumed we knew all of his bar routines. Making us line up, calling rank on ability, Ive never felt so terrible and am tempted to hang up my ballet shoes. The mean Russian teacher demeanor doesnt belong in a beginner drop in class.

My friend and I decided to try a beginner commercial Jazz class. We were told by the receptionist that as we had 15+ years Irish dance experience that beginner was the class for us. We quickly realised that it was far too advanced and that the rest of the dancers were very experienced and used to the technical jazz dance terms. The teacher didn’t seem to have much interest in differentiating the class to suit our level. We decided to leave when she asked us if we could speak English in a patronising way when we were struggling with the material. Thankfully we were allowed to take a ‘Basic’ class which was much more suited. The substitute teacher for the basic class was much more considerate of the various abilities in the class. Despite this, if you don’t have any dance experience, even the basic class could be too much. You’re expected to be able to do the full splits even at the lowest basic level. Makes me wonder what advanced is like. The basic class was also VERY overcrowded.

An awesome dance studio for the individuals whose passion is dancing. Multiple styles with great facilities. Great faculty with instructors of good and friendly nature. I have just taken few classes here but I can tell that this is a dream opportunity for new york dancers. I admire this place a lot but I personally feel that they should hire more better hip-hop instructors like the ones in Millennium Dance Complex in LA. I have been lately watching the dance videos of Millenium Dance Complex and they have much better instructors like Matt Steffanina, Nika Kljun, Alexander Chung compared to the ones in BDCNYC, so I think that they should hire instructors who are as good as the ones in LA. I also have one more concern that they should have their branches in Queens as well. I live in Elmhurst, Queens and its really hard for me to manage my time to get their on time so I humbly request to open the branches in Queens so that the dancers who live in Queens can easily get opportunities to learn in place like this. Overall, a great place beside few concerns. Mucho love. Peace

Until today, I would have given BDC a 5. Great instructors & class choices BUT the desk staff and info when you call SUCKS. As a professional performer, my time matters, as does everyones - I called last night to see if I needed to sign up in advance for a certain class & was told NO. I arrived way early today anyway - after calling AGAIN today to see about advance sign ups - only to be told I was too far down the wait list to get in. (Not like I came late!) My round trip will be over 4 hours of travel time + travel costs - totally wasted. VERY disrespectful. I had posted positive stuff about BDC on my social media & encouraged others to go - I wont be rushing to do that again!!UPDATE: BDC management did follow up to apologize & address my concern, which I really appreciate - so adjusting my review.

BEV is WORST dance instructor someone could possibly encounter in their lives. She is of the poorest quality and lowest standards, rude, vulgar, grotesque attitude towards others. One world to describe her GHETTO! If she was a fish she would be a barracuda!!! My sister has been a student at Broadway Dance Center under my expense for about a year, on July 21st 2016 it was my first time going to see her dancing. I stood outside the room by the glass watching her as the class was about to outset. Few steps into her warm up, I got a FaceTime call from my boss and as held the phone up BV jumped on the window and started yelling at me to delete the video I was recording or she would call the manager to have me removed. I look her right in the eye and told her to call the manager. So she did, she called the manager, made a big scene as I just kept trying to walk out of the building, she called me a pervert and she threatened me saying she was going to call the cops on me, although the spell turned against the witch, the manager stood for me and told that it wasnt the first time she had had that attitude, he was so apologetic to me, he gave my sister a free class and told me that he wouldnt let it pass by. Even though, once my sister is done with her classes she is never taking anymore classes there ever again. I dont know all the teacher that work there but I do not want my sister to be instructed by anyone like that woman that goes by the name BEV.

Personally, I love it here. As an adult who used to dance more competitively as a youth, I enjoy taking the drop-in classes at BDC. I take all Hip Hop/Street Jazz classes and have a blast with the instructors, although I must admit I do feel like an outsider sometimes as there are tightly knit communities built within each instructors class (either they run shows together with their group of dancers and the full timers are very close knit). I have taken Bev Brown, Chio, Eric Jenkins, Jermaine Brown, and Joanna Numata. I like them all and each one is different from the last and as far as instruction there is certainly diversity amongst the group as well (you really just have to find the instructor that works best for your dance style). Im dying to get to Rhapsody and Luams classes but timing is never right as I live in NJ.The only downside as I mentioned is I feel it can be a bit too cliquey in certain classes but one can never truly escape that. Classes can feel a little cramped and like you dont get personalized instruction so you truly have to fight for your spot up front if youre serious about getting any feedback from instructors. I used to take Jazz/Ballet as a teen, so I feel the corrections I receive now in the Street Classes are COMPLETELY different - not ineffectual, but its more about the attitude and breaks in the movement rather than your technique - so sometimes I feel like Im not really getting feedback, but moreso just learning the teachers choreography (if that makes sense?). Either way, I love what I get from the classes stylistically, so thats enough for me:)A little expensive ($18/class), get there early as some classes are very popular and fill up quickly.
