We love Central Park Taekwondo and recommend it to everyone we know! Mr Richard is amazing and one of our daughters favorite teachers inside and outside of school. Mr Richard is excellent at breaking down the movements for our daughter to learn. He makes every class engaging and whatever our daughter is interested in Mr Richard is an expert, be it aquatic sea life (he worked in an aquarium) or dinosaurs (he has an encyclopedic knowledge of the Jurassic through Cretaceous periods). Mr Richard really gets kids and deserves a medal or perhaps even a statue!Master Teresa (the owner) is very thoughtful and welcoming and wrote us a beautiful email when we first considered attending CPTKD. She sets the tone for the whole gym and the engagement with its members goes beyond learning a martial art.Central Park Taekwondo is a community and we feel privileged to be part of it.

My kids have been attending regularly since aprox 2 years ago. At the beginning They were quite reserved but after going to Central Park Taekwondo, they are noticeably more confident on themselves. At Central Park Taekwondo, they teach kids more than just the sport but a life philosophy of endurance, perseverance, strength, commitment, etc. Masters are friendly but professional. The staff is so friendly. The facility is beyond clean! I strongly recommend Central Park Taekwondo.

Amazing facilities. The staff is professional, well-trained, and above all, kind. I started here two years ago having earned my black belt at another studio and was surprised by how warm the other teens were. CPTKD is not only an excellent school but also a second family.

My nine-yr-old son and my husband started here this year and they love it. The price is not cheap, but lots of classes are available to him, including weekly family class (that I go to with my son). Plus the place is run very smoothly with a good family feel and I know it wont fold (like the one my daughter went to a couple of years ago). The class has helped my son want to work hard and be more aware of other responsibilities. I love that he insists on being early and being neat with his uniform. My son knows that Master Oatmeal can pull him out of a bad mood and can teach him a lot. The other teachers/masters have been very impressive too especially when theyve had to improvise on the spot with a small group. Im considering joining myself.

The teaching staff and masters who are knowledgeable, friendly and dedicated wholly won my respect and trust. The facilities are nice, roomy and clean. The management are long time UWSers and prioritize community and family. Great for my kids, great for me.

Central Park taekwondo is not only a place to exercise, but also a place to grow as a person and an athlete. I am so glad that I can be part of the family that CPTKD is. I always look forward to coming to classes and I highly recommend it to anybody who enjoys martial arts.-Nate

Its a shame. The masters are great and we love them but the new manager is rude and does not care for long term customers. Theres a no makeup class rollover into the next season rule but we missed the last class of the season, that leaves no days to make it up. I had called and emailed many times with no response. I finally got him live and he said hes been busy so didnt get back to me and that he can not honor my children a makeup class no exceptions. I was shocked and saddened by his response. My kids have been going here for years and we were planning on going for many more but we will now sign up at another place on the UWS which actually has much better reviews.

My first exposure to CPTKD was during a childs birthday party years ago - when an employee realized Id been looking through my bag fruitlessly for Advil she walked away and came back with two tablets. She then poured me a cup of fruit-infused water and I was blown away. This is the quality of care you can expect on any given day. My two young friends have been students at this studio for several years since - and of all the activities available to them - basketball, baseball, football, soccer, drama, robotics - Taekwondo is easily the most valuable. The instructors and masters are stellar and the attention they provide the students is individualized and precise. Teresa Throckmorton is a ROCK STAR - the energy she brings to the building is palpable and her passion for the art is infectious. On an aesthetic level the facility is the cleanest Ive ever encountered - bathrooms are pristine and waiting/training mats are cared for. On a deeper level - emotional - spiritual - developmental - the teaching of the Taekwondo tenets (courtesy, integrity, perseverance, indomitable spirit) are what I prize above all else. The students at CPTKD are reminded constantly to treat their instructors, fellow students and everyone in their world with consideration and respect - so valuable when kids can be exposed to negative influences elsewhere. In a world where instant gratification is king its good that children learn that hard work and effort are required to achieve goals - Ill take the joy on a childs face when hes earned a stripe and the pride of holding up a new belt over a generic participation trophy for anything else any day of the week! If you want your child to be a part of a community that develops skill and nurtures ability - this is it.

CPTKD focuses on building each childs potential through strong instruction and a supportive community. My son joined 2 years ago after his prior Tae Kwon Do school closed. He has thrived due to the individual instruction and attention from the instructors and the welcoming environment created by everyone (instructors, students, staff). During this time, I also observed how female students thrive at CPTKD. So I signed up my daughter this year as well. She is well supported by her instructors, and she is enjoying her classes. To highlight CPTKDs specific strengths:Instructor quality. The instructors have incredible mastery and many have competition experience as well. However, their ability to teach children (a balance between demanding and playful) is what sets them apart. They focus on developing the whole child, not only the physical attributes.Instructor/student ratio. For classes, there are a minimum of 2 instructors. This allows for more personalized instruction for each child.Offerings. There are belt classes but also specialized classes focused on poomsae (forms), sparring, and family classes as well.Flexible schedule. Belt classes are offered 6 days/week. This is helpful with changing schedules for children.Facility. This is a serious training facility that is immaculately maintained.I would encourage any parent considering martial arts for their child to sign up for a trial and come along and observe!

My boys have been attending CPTKD for 5 years now and they absolutely love it! The Masters and staff are great with kids, encouraging, supportive and friendly. The staff always helpful! The founder, Master Teresa, is a 5th degree black belt and wanted to create an environment for her 3 kids to learn the art of taekwondo. CPTKD has grown to a wonderful community where families can learn taekwondo together. And they continue to evolve for their members, from creating new classes like grappling to Latin dance to Womens empowerment. I recently asked my son which activities he wants to keep for this fall and he said CPTKD, because I feel at home there.

I did a lot of research before I chose to train at Central Park Tae Kwon Do. I was looking for a school with competent instructors who care about the art and are not boastful of their skill; senior students who display a lack of ego, even as they take their training seriously; a friendly and helpful staff; and clean and neat facilities with pleasant changing rooms, scrubbed mats, and equipment that is cared for. I found all of that and more when I found CPTKD.If you are looking for the right Tae Kwon Do school for yourself or your children, you should come to CPTKD and take a look. I’m sure, like me, you will find exactly what you need!
