City Wing Tsun is the perfect martial arts school for learning this amazing style of Kung Fu.First - the atmosphere is great. The owners and instructors do their best to shut down egos and those weirdly competitive people in order to keep things positive and productive. This is HUGE because most martial arts schools Ive attended dont pay enough attention to that so inevitably, things get uncomfortable. But City Wing Tsun is fun and you end up meeting a ton of cool people.Second - CWT is extremely knowledgeable and professional. This school has incredible credentials and has existed in New York for over 15 years. During their time theyve upgraded their facilities considerably. They now have two big floors, AC on both floors and even a big ass fan (for real, thats what its called, its 6 ft tall) to ensure their students are comfortable during those super hot summer months.Third - They know what theyre doing. They have a very well-thought out curriculum plan. The curriculum goes all the way to the most advanced techniques. We frequently take school trips to Hong Kong where we train with Hong Kong masters. City Wing Tsun gives you the opportunity to do some really incredible things. Ive done chi sau with some of the most noteworthy Wing Tsun / Wing Chun masters in the world, not the least of which is Sifu Alex Richter, the founder and owner of City Wing Tsun, who is an amazing instructor and martial artist. And a really fun person too.Fourth - This is one of the best things for health, fitness and mental / emotional wellness. You WILL get stronger, you will FEEL better overall. But most amazingly, youll notice a difference in the way you think, make decisions, and even carry yourself in everyday situations from work to social encounters. If youre skeptical, trust me -- try it for six months and youll be shocked.TAKEAWAY - I have an amazing relationship and love for this school and I know many people who feel the same way. If youre interested in going to a serious martial arts school that is steeped in knowledge and shows respect to the style and its forefathers in a fun, modern way, then CWT is for you. It might not be for everyone but I hope you will give it a try with an open heart. Give yourself an honest shot at taking a step in the right direction. I know its intimidating at first, but youll get over that part fast. Just trust that they know what theyre doing and let them guide you. I have been practicing the style at City Wing Tsun for 6 years almost. It is much superior that other schools I have been trained troughout my martial arts carrier in several aspects. Sifu Alex Richters systematic teaching techniqus, the family/community feeling and high quality equipment at the school really makes the differece at City Wing Tsun. Training Wing Tsun at CWT is hands down the best decision Ive made. The instructors are all well versed in Wing Tsun, are dedicated to the art and are helpful and provide a fun atmosphere for learning.A good curriculum is put in place to keep track of your progress and trainings before,during and after class are plentiful and egos are checked at the door. Like many, Ive trained in multiple martial arts systems in many different schools and locations throughout US and CWT is among the best that Ive ever trained at.Instructors - highly knowledge, great at teaching, caring, professional and genuinely love the art and spreading its teachings in an applicable manner, whether your goals are fitness/self-defense/art.Location/facilities- HQ is in Manhattan with many locations throughout (Astoria, Brooklyn, Connecticut, North Carolina, etc). Check their website for the full list. Two floors with a plethora of new equipment, multiple wooden dummies (once youre ready of course), pads, etc, making you wish you had more time in your already-busy life to train.Colleagues/training partners - many different levels of training partners here but one thing is consistent, everyone is extremely welcoming and friendly. No egos, friendly competition and cooperative learning.Training / curriculum - well built curriculum with learning speed tailored to your skills and ambition. Well designed training manuals, supplemental materials and focused classes (sparring class, street-boxing class, wooden dummy, chi-sao class, etc) allow variety in training to develop you for anything you may come across or anything that interests you.Overall, fantastic organization with even more amazing people. Highly recommended without any reservations!

This is one of the best schools Ive ever been to! Great atmosphere and amazing instructors. They really know what theyre talking about and they teach it so well that it makes it easy to understand. I moved out of the country so unfortunately I dont attend classes anymore, but I always visit when Im back in New York because I miss everyone so much. Highly recommend!

CWT is a great place to have fun, get fit, learn self-defense, and gain self-confidence along with self-awareness. The instructors here are excellent; very knowledgeable and passionate about what they teach. The senior students are also welcoming and eager to help. Discovering Wing Tsun is one of the best things that has ever happened to me in my life. I previously studied other martial arts, but nothing compares to Wing Tsun-- there is no wasted movement, every move makes sense. Every class you learn something immediately applicable, but it takes patience and practice to get really good at it. You wont find a better school or atmosphere to train in, but like everything in life you get in what you put out, so you have to be committed to it to really improve.

I went into the school in early May and attended the trial class. The environment was great, the instructors were friendly, and everyone seemed to really enjoy it. I signed up for a month, but the next day I was emailed a contract that I signed with a 6 month agreement. I called to immediately cancel and get my money back, but the person on the phone was unable to help me. I had to call visa to dispute the charges, and I was sent an invoice with the refund amount, but a month later I have yet to receive the refund.Seems like a good school, but I would be careful and pay cash.

The teachers and students are very friendly and easygoing yet they will push you to the best you have. I dont feel intimidated about not knowing anything and many have been more than willing to help me out. I really enjoy what im learning, how practical it is, and the mentality they are trying to develop. This is a great school. I have been training here for a little over 2 months and it has done nothing but good things for me. I came to the school an out of shape man, nearing 40, very tense and an all around mess. Since I have only been training for 2 months I can not say that I have completely turned myself around, but I feel myself getting stronger and better every day.Everyone at the school is incredibly friendly. The teachers, in addition to being incredibly friendly are also incredibly patient. I have been slow to get certain things and they have taken the time to help me focus on my problem areas and to deal with my frustration when I am not getting things.Since this is a school, you will get back what you put into it. There is no shortage of available class times so finding spots that work for your schedule shouldnt be an issue. For me, since the school is close to where I work I am often able to take 6 classes during the week. This includes both Kung Fu training and the fit class which is an awesome benefit of the school and really kicks your butt into shape. I try to shoot for 7 classes a week, but havent yet made it in for a Saturday session.So, long story short, City Wing Tsun is a great school and more than worth your time and money. I can not recommend it enough.

City Wing Tsun started my education in martial arts. I joined because of the Ip Man movies but knew nothing about the background of Wing Chun. My goal was to learn a genuine Chinese art form and to get healthy. I didn’t want to just lift weights and do cardio at the typical gym.Training with my Kung Fu family at City Wing Tsun has been awesome. I have made friends with the other students and the instructors as well. I leave the gym feeling sweaty but good knowing that I am just that much closer to becoming a tougher and stronger person both physically and spiritually.If you don’t believe me, why not try out their free lesson? Wing Tsun is not only a fighting system, it is also a mental state. Yes, it is physical, it teaches a person how a body moves, makes the person aware of the body that one would otherwise ignore, it also teaches one how to stay calm and relaxed under pressure while having the ability to defend oneself. The latter part can also be transferred to everyday life. Sifu Alex and other instructors not only taught me how to physically learn Wing Tsun, they also taught me a way of life. I went through law school and passed the bar examination on the same philosophy. Who would have thought that Wing Tsun; fighting, kicking, grappling, sweeping, etc., can translate to learning how to perform legal research, application of law to fact, form arguments, etc. What I learned is the willingness to learn, to understand, to prepare for whatever may come, then deal with the situation when it comes, as calmly as possible, be relaxed, and most of all, enjoy and have fun. Ive been here for almost 4 months now, I like the vibe to be honest, I dont think its any less of a great kung fu school because of their business plan. I love the instructors and theyre like bros. and sisters to me. Theyre always ready to help. What I noticed is that they pace you(if you come nearly everyday for classes i mean) plus the vibe brings out the willingness for someone to learn. At least from my perspective, give it at least a few classes. And i mean consistently, this isnt for the casuals.

Been at City Wing Tsun since October of 2012. I would have to say that this is just one of the best Wing Tsun school in New York. Im surprised to read the negative reviews here in Google +.Indeed, we have a bunch repetitions as far as the class is concern. But its through those repetitions that Im able to develop my forms and reflexes. Its no different than the quote practice makes perfect. Our instructors cant simply ask us to do higher forms if were not rooted with the fundamentals and the basics. If you understand that purpose as to why we do such repetitions, then theres no point complaining. Its all a matter of patience, dedication and commitment to what youre doing.And no, this place is not a joke. Our instructors are really good and they are always open for questions. They even give us a detailed explanation, through words and demos, as to why we should do things a certain way instead of doing otherwise. As far as our Sifu is concern, hes one of the most respected Wing Tsun Instructors and he knows what hes teaching. I have to say, hes one of the best! Seriously. You have to see him fight at least once and youll know what Im talking about.When it comes to financial matters, they do have a contract for the basic program (Im not sure about the higher grades coz Im still in the basic). But before you sign the contract, theyll give you 2 intro lesson for $19.95. Through the intro lesson, youll get to experience the school first before deciding whether youd really like to go through the class or not. I used to think that theyre not flexible when it comes to your finances, but that isnt true. I still believe that they can be considerate at some point as long as your dedicated. My friend had that experience at City Wing Tsun. I cant give the details as to how they did it but when he lost his job for a few months, City Wing Tsun did work things out for him. However, I would have to admit that some equipments are a bit pricey. But hey! Were in New York, Manhattan to be exact, what do you expect?Overall, I love City Wing Tsun. However, everybodys different. I for one am speaking based on my own experience. I could say, thank God that I ended up in this place instead of being elsewhere. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to learn Wing Tsun.For me, City Wing Tsun has a great curriculum, excellent instructors, best Sifu and best Wing Tsun quality.
