This academy is a great place to train. They have classes spread throughout the day so its easy to find a time that works for you.The teaching is top notch. There are a variety of professors who have different specialties, and different body types so you can align with training that best fits your style. There is also an expertly run womens program as well. So if you feel a little apprehensive rolling with guys or just want more female training partners they have you covered. πŸ™‚

What an amazing school with a great vibe! I stopped in when Master Renzo and John Danaher were doing a charity seminar for one of their students who had cancer.Students were super cool and it was an amazing experience to walk into the World Headquarters of the Renzo Gracie Academy for the first time!

I was member of RGA for about two years and it changed my life! I took BJJ and Thai boxing and gained so much physical and mental acuity. The instructors and classmates are very supportive and everyone wants everyone else to succeed and improve as it raises everyone’s level of proficiency. I’m ready to start going back very soon and can’t wait!!!

From the very beginning you are taught technique that will work on a high level, not gimmicky techniques that will only work on people with less mat time than you. I’ve been to several of the best gyms in NJ and the level of instruction, and as a byproduct, the level of the students, is second to none. Fun, competitive, but not ego driven rolls just raises everybody’s level that much faster.

Never been to this school but had to make a post about one of its students. Alex G messaged a friend of mines telling her to leave the country if she doesn’t like how things are. Told her to come to the school so he could have a chance to fight her and her bf. Renzo academy I’m sure and hope you dont condone this behavior but you should cancel this students membership.

Hardcore martial artists go here. The white belts with any stripes are dedicated, the instructors are cool and there are plenty of people to grapple with. They do make you use their branding on a gi, if you dont buy one, theyll let you borrow one.Full facilities and high skill level here (GI BJJ).

My husband and I have been with Renzo Gracie Academy for years, and our children are members of the academy as well. Amazing staff, meticulous professionalism, world-class techniques. With Thai boxing and MMA thrown in for good measure, our entire family feels confident in our self-defense skills. We cant visit to go back when the businesses re-open.

I was invited to train with a friend while I was finishing up my engineering course at Columbia and I barely had enough money to buy a beer on the weekends. After my first class renzo pulled me aside and said I want you to train here... I said I would love to train here but I don’t have the money right now and I am still in school. He then said don’t worry you pay me when you can I want you to train here. This is the type of man that runs renzo Gracie Accademy.

Dropped in for a beginner BJJ class while visiting from Houston. Paid $40 to drop in and $10 for gi rental which pretty reasonable considering the classes offered. I was warmly welcomed by Jason, a brown belt at the academy who also offered a tour of the facility and was interested in getting to know the school I was visiting from (Gracie Barra Westchase) and even knew some of the team from my home school. Although the facilities are a bit old, I found everything to be very clean and proper. I also found it very interesting that the beginner BJJ class was ALL white belts without any higher belts. I guess this could bode well if youre really interested in growing with the people you start with. Overall, a very high level experience and Id recommend it to anyone! Oss!

Dropped in the beginners gi evening class on 10/15/2019, while in the city for a business trip. They offer Gi rental which is reasonably priced and very convenient. Great facility, instructors and students- very respectful, welcoming, and safety conscious. The professor gave me the same attention and technique correction during drills as his other students, which was first rate. Will definitely drop in again when visiting NYC. Thanks RGA!

An excellent dojo and fitness facility for those seriously interested in Brazilian JiuJitsu and overall conditioning. I have never been disappointed with a single experience here.

I came here from another affiliate in Jersey almost 2 years ago now. I believe this to be one of the finest academies to train at in the NYC area. There are very few places where you can go and spend an entire day learning, drilling, and training with high level and professional sport BJJ players. If you train at the downtown academy you also have the ability to train in the Brooklyn school at no additional cost so no matter what schedule you work there are always opportunities to train. Life is what you make it lets get after it. Peace.

Dont train here if you are beginner- intermediate advanced. This place is a injury factory, and you will pay extra for the name value (comparatively to the other MMA gyms in NYC), but you will never see Renzo teaching beginner/intermediate or even many of the advanced classes, and 90% of the other coaches do not care unless you are a fighter or black belt. Ego is not left at the door, and a safe and friendly training environment to prevent injuries is not a culture that is fostered here, expect to get injured more often than you should. This is a decent gym if you are a fighter or high ranking belt, great place to learn leg locks (which you can only learn when you get to a much higher level), anything else and I highly recommend NOT to train here. Same problem with Marcelos, but Marcelo is actually there quite often... still I recommend instead training at one of the smaller MMA gyms in the area.

I terminated my membership after 6+ years because of the head instructor at Muay Thai program, who accused me of lying about ordering my new boxing gloves. Mind you, my gloves (and many many gloves prior) were stolen at this academy. I dont know where he gets the guts to talk to ANYBODY like that. Its a shame he is the head instructor because I happened to like the other instructors. I know too many people who had left the academy because of him. And like the others, Ive just joined another academy and very happy with my decision.

I don’t often give reviews but felt compelled to after reading a few negative reviews. I was a bit shocked at how clean the gym was and how friendly and helpful the people were. As soon as I walked in I was greeted with a big smiling hello by a Muay Thai instructor. I said Im from out of town and would like to take a no gi class with John Danaher. He said the gym is officially closed for the holidays but feel free to look around. There are three floors and the jiu jitsu is downstairs. There, I was greeted by another friendly face who also said the gym was closed and that John Danaher was out of town for the holidays. However, he was there to open the gym for people who wanted to train during the break and invited me join them. I’ve been to many BJJ gyms in the US and have never met kinder or friendlier people! Later I mentioned about the negative reviews. He responded, β€œSometimes you get what you give.” These guys went way above and beyond the normal courtesy service. I had an awesome experience! Two thumbs up to Renzo Gracie’s NYC!!!

If you want to learn bjj this is one of the top academies in the world. Yes its expensive but it is in Manhattan of course it would be. The commenter above talking about one of the owners Mrs Latta being rude needs to learn how and where to write a review. Your talking about an affiliate school out in the sticks of Pennsylvania which Renzo has nothing to do with the day to day operations of. I would have thought the NY address would have showed you were in the wrong place.

Every time I walk through the doors they always make me feel welcome and a part of a big family. When youre training here, you cant help but feel like youre training in Brazil. Its a great vibe and a wonderful atmosphere very conducive for training. I have taken classes with Professor John Danaher for several years now and his attention to detail is second to none. He offers a one of a kind approach to learning the art. No matter if your desire is to learn BJJ, Muay Thai, Self Defense, or MMA there isnt any wonder people travel from all over to train here. If youre in NYC its a must.
