Olathe karate academy has been a blessing to our family! Our sons are thriving in karate and learning more self discipline as well. Jamie and Ashley are wonderful instructors. They do an amazing job at making the dojo feel like a family !

Our family started going to OKA early this year. The OKA staff has made it a great experience that is both fun and challenging. They do a great job handling students with a broad range of skill. Ive really enjoyed getting to participate in class along side our kids as well as joining an all ranks class where I get a chance to see more advanced skills. We have been going to Olathe Karate Academy for about 6 months now. My 6 year old LOVES it. Ashley has instructed majority of his classes and she is the perfect mix of strict and fun. My son has learned listening skills on top of the expected karate. He gets excited to go every day. They are very profession, but also get to know each individual family on a bit of a personal level. 10/10 would recommend attending.

I just turned 40 and my son is 7. We started training together a few weeks ago and we are both really enjoying it! The training is excellent for multi-generational students, and we both have learned a lot from the instructors. There is an EXCELLENT online library of videos and training information. We initially got a tour if the dojo and a great overview with Kyoshi and Renshi. The value of the membership cannot be overstated, and we really appreciate we can attend any class at anytime for our rank. HIGHLY RECOMMEND for any family interested in learning karate, especially together.

We just moved from another karate school in the area and we love it here! They are wonderful with our 8 year old and 4 year old kids and have helped our 8 year old to enjoy karate again! It is a very clean and well kept school with great instructors!

Olathe Karate Academy is well known and has been established for many years. Excellent, very progressive owner and friendly, achieved teachers and staff. The Academy is large, and very well equipped for various physical levels of learning. All ages are welcome. The Academy has been very successful in achieving desired goals for the very young as well as older students and adults. My grandchildren love it. It’s never too late to start. The Academy has an easy, visible location & parking. Strongly recommended.

I have trained in martial arts for 10 years. When we moved here from out of state, I wanted a school with a family environment and great martial arts. Olathe Karate provides both of those things and much more.

OKA does an amazing job with all of their customers regardless of age. My son is 6, and this is first sport/activity that he actually wants to go to without any complaints. They make the instruction fun, but teach discipline at the same time. The facility is clean and all instructors are professional and knowledgeable. OKA has a fantastic family environment, which really made my kids feel at home. The instructors are all excellent with kids, and I love the fact the instructors incorporate Japanese (counting, names of moves, etc.) into the lessons. Would highly recommend—particularly the kids’ day classes.

I have been training at OKA for 15 years. All the instructors care about you as a person and help to make you a better martial artist regardless of age or skill level. Both my boys have done the trial starting at age 3. Love that they take them this young. Both boys picked it up, really fast. Cant wait until my youngest turns 5, so we can all go to class together. Nothing but good things to say!

Our son has been an OKA student for nearly 2 years. He has grown tremendously in his physical strength and coordination, as well as his focus, self discipline and confidence. We have been really happy with the level of instruction and encouragement from all of the instructors. Kids are nurtured and encouraged to push themselves beyond what comes easily, and I will say the classes where my son leaves the happiest are the same ones where he leaves exhausted and feeling like hes really been challenged to master a new skill. So, we know hes developing a joy and appreciation for working hard.

I do kickboxing through Olathe Karate. It always makes me feel like I have gotten a really good work out. I’ve observed some of their Karate classes and they are professional and you can see their students enjoy what they are learning.

Great place! The classes are fun and professional. A very family friendly place with high quality instruction. We are very happy with how our kids are trained and treated at the school. While the kids tend to be my priority, my husband takes lessons here too and loves it. The kickboxing classes 2x a week keep me going too.

Our family have been members of the Olathe Karate Academy since 2014 when our youngest started as a cub. We have always taken advantage of the special rates offered for re- signing and our family now has 2 Kenpo black belts and one junior Kenpo black belt and Im working toward a black belt in the weapons system. The Palmers have created more than just a karate school, they have cultivated an atmosphere that feels like family.

We signed our 4yo son up for Karate Kubs and he loves it. The instructor is great with the little ones. Hes learning a lot!!

My daughter has taken classes at OTA for almost a year now. The instructors are very knowledgeable and focused on teaching their students. However, they still make the classes enjoyable. There are various levels and a variety of classes. The belt tests provide an opportunity for students to showcase their skills and allows them to see what they will be learning as they progress through the ranks. A plus for many is that families are seen taking classes together. OTA also has other activities during the year so students and families can get to know each other more outside the classes. I would highly recommend OTA for anyone considering martial arts classes.

My son went there from beginner to high purple belt. He really enjoyed the experience. I was really surprised to see so many ages together in a group. The belt check-offs are interesting; it was so cool to see kids breaking boards, even the little ones. He really liked his teachers.

The Palmers are wonderful instructors! Not only do they effectively train students in useful fighting skills and techniques, but they foster a welcoming community. In the 10+ years that I trained there, I felt like I was not just a student at a dojo; I was part of the OKA family.I started my martial arts training in high school. I was overweight, out of shape, uncoordinated, incapable of doing even a single push-up, and devoid of fighting experience. I was so scared to start training, but I almost immediately felt at home. The instructors truly cared about the success of us students, and they provided guidance every step of the way. I never felt looked down upon or scorned by the senior students when I didnt know something or had trouble with a technique; indeed, many of them were kind and gracious enough to help me.As rewarding and satisfying as it was to train through the ranks and become a black belt, I found that there were numerous other physical, emotional, and social benefits to being a part of Olathe Karate Academy. I became more physically active, more coordinated, and more confident in myself. I also forged relationships with some truly wonderful people. I have so many fond memories of my time there, and I have never regretted all the time I invested in my training.I remember once hearing it said that a black belt is just a white belt who kept showing up and didnt quit. So take that first step: just show up and give it a try! If you find you hate it, you can always stop (theyve never forced students into contracts, so its not a massive financial risk.) But if you stick with it, even when the going gets tough, you will learn to thrive in a community of students and instructors who will gladly support you through it all.

My kid has been a student of OLA for past two years. Kyoshi Palmer and Renshi Ashleigh are great instructors. They go beyond their normal routine to help their students to achieve their goals. Renshi Ashleigh has taken time out from her busy schedule to help my kid with her school presentation on Martial arts. I am happy to see my kid grow in confidence, self esteem, discipline and mutual reapect to her colleagues. We signed up for a two year tuition payment with the Dojo to help mitigate some of the cost on a monthly basis. In one years time, we spent about $5,000 in tuition, belts and equipment for sparring. I recently accepted a job promotion with my company to move to North Carolina. I approached Jamie and Ashley to discuss a refund on my second year of tuition due to our move. The amount left on my one year pre paid tuition is about $1600. I offered to give back my equipment that I paid $600 for and used 1 time. I was met with much resistance and a resounding no. I am honestly shocked and appalled that as business owners they do not have empathy for our situation around moving. The move is almost 1000 miles away and as a family we feel that Olathe Karate should do the right thing in reimbursing our last year of tuition money. Sometimes doing the right thing should prevail over greed to make money.

I started going to Olathe Karate over 15 years ago, first as a parent of 3 children training & then as a student myself. I was one of the first “moms” to earn my black belt which is a pretty proud accomplishment that wouldn’t have happened without the encouragement of Kyoshi Palmer and my fellow karatekas. I truly cherish my years of training at OKA and have lifelong friends because of my choice to take a kickboxing class one winter. Highly recommend OKA if you want to challenge yourself to reach your highest potential.

If I had to describe OKA in one word it would be FAMILY. As a student you benefit from over 100 years of martial arts experience from the Senseis (instructors). You will learn self defense techniques that are applicable in the real word. Self control, discipline, along with respect inwards and outwards are included in every class. Also on the menu is physical and mental fitness. These items and much more are offered in a a fun and family like environment unequaled at any martial arts dojo Ive ever attended or heard of.

Many years ago, I took a different Okinawan Karate and loved it, but stopped going because of things going on in my life at that time. 20 years later, my son came here for a school outing and had a blast. Being that it was Okinawan Karate, that meant some of my previous training would translate, which helped fuel my desire to startup again. We signed up as a family and havent looked back.Kyoshi and Renshi have built something special here! Unlike other Karate places Ive observed, this is a FAMILY! Everyone is great to work with, workout with, compete next to, and share our experience together. They dont treat this as just a place to learn Karate, its built to bring everyone together. They have social outings and get togethers often, and go out of their way to make everyone feel comfortable. Even when you do something youve never done before and youre terrible at it, they encourage you every step of the way!!From a Martial Arts perspective, they offer everything - Karate, Ju Jitsu, Weapons, Sparring, and an intense workout session that is designed to help you get in shape. Their teachers are excellent, and they care to help make you Better! I feel blessed that I have been able to find a Karate School that my entire family can participate and enjoy!!!
