My son just graduated from High School at OSS. He spent 7 years during middle and high school, teachers do get involved with the students and push them to learn. It is true that some of the teachers are of Turkish descent and speak with an accent but it is understandable and they speak English well. My wife and I feel our son received a worthy education and is well prepared to go to College now!

This school although small, has many opportunities inschool and out of school. It offers numerous AP classes to enhance your college experience. As a student in OSS, my favorite part of the school is the extracurriculars, such as science Olympiad and FIRST robotics. Overall the school helps us have a smooth transition into higher education.

This is our first year attending and my child is in 3rd grade. His teacher is wonderful and he loves the class, the homework time required is acceptable for our busy schedules. There is an effort on behalf of everyone my son has a class with to make leaning fun and exciting. My only negative is the car rider pick up line takes forever but my child always comes out of the school smiling.

The school is great for learning overall... I have been to Orlando Science Schools many times, I really enjoy how the staff are kind and caring and they are putting their full time for the success of the all students...!!! I have seen Teachers leaving the school after 5:00 PM 6:00PM, which tells clearly how they are dedicated to their jobs... I would suggest the school for every parent in my community...I do enjoy the teachers how they are trying to fix the problems if they exist with parents cooperatively. They are the true teachers who are investing their times generously for the sake of their students academic success...

This school is perfect for academic students, especially in STEM. My son is very good in Math and Science and this school really caters toward these subjects. There are wonderful teachers in all subjects. He loved his English, History, Math, Science and other teachers and they are excellent teachers. He learned so much and they really go out of their way for the students. I got quick responses when emailing teachers. It is a small school so the teachers know the students well and really care and want to help. There are very few problems at the school. The kids are really good kids overall. The school wins all kinds of awards such as Science Olympiad, Math and History awards and it is top 100 most challenging school in America. Top 20 in Florida. It has many AP classes. My son did great on the SAT and got scholarship offers from every college he applied to. The senior class got great offers to many colleges throughout the US. The high school counselor did a great job with the seniors making sure all their paperwork was done for scholarships and colleges. My son was challenged at OSS. He will have no problem academically in college.

I went to this school from 2011-2012, and I can honestly say, I did not like this school.Every morning I would complain and complain to my mother (who forced me to go for one year) about how much this school sucked and did not help me the leas bit in making me more open to the real world. Orlando Science Middle School was not a place for me. It does have many after school clubs, but many were just filled with kids playing card games. Since electives cannot be chosen, I was confused why they were called electives. The disciplinary system was very poor, for kids hit eachother and were not punished adequately. Once I was pulled out after one year, my Middle school experience improved once I left OSS. I do not recommend sending your student here if they enjoy performing, art, or anything musical. This school lacks performing arts, and has no strong band or chorus. I have not visited this school since the time I went, so there could be changes. As an honor roll student, even I could not cope with this Math/Science focus. There is also too much homework, as I remember no freedom from the havoc of the papers and projects they plied upon me. There are too many projects and all this school cares about is math and science. I hope this will help you decide whether or not to send your student to this school.

As a graduate from this school, I have nothing but good things to say about OSS. I started attending this school in the beginning of 2014. I moved around quite often and always moved to a different high school every year, so I definitely had some expectations, but OSS exceeded all of them. Personally, I think for any school, its up to the student to make the most of what they can. OSS offers so many activities and opportunities for students. Its truly up to the student, to decide what they want to do with what the school offers. Along with that, the teachers and administration are amazing. The college counselor guided me every step of the way during the time in which I was applying for colleges(which was a very stressful time). Even after I graduated, the college counselor still wanted updates about my post-high school life. What I love the most about this school is the students. They truly felt like a second family to me. Seniors just didnt hang out with seniors or juniors didnt just hang out with juniors, but all students hanged out with each other. It was really like a family. Because of OSS, I decided to apply to small private liberal arts colleges because I truly cannot go back to schools with a large population. I love the fact that the school is not over populated because it really gives students a personalized education. Also, the teachers really care about the students by having Saturday school or after-school tutoring. I absolutely loved the 1 1/2 years I spent at OSS and I feel a little sad that I wont be coming back this fall, but I am confident in what I will achieve in college as I left OSS very well prepared.

As a parent with a child who has been in the school for a year and a half, we have had very positive experiences so far, and our child loves the school. The teachers have been great so far. We like it that the school is focused on truly educating our child and not on worksheets, standardized tests, or spirit days. The negatives are mostly related to organizational growing pains - as the school expanded this year, it took some time for everything to get sorted out with carpool lanes, teachers, orientation, etc. Things now run smoothly, and I have no doubt that they will continue to get better. The clubs this year have been great and give our child some great experiences that wouldnt be available in a standard public school. I feel like some of the reviews posted here are overly harsh, and if youre not interested in focusing on academics, maybe this place is not for you. From my perspective as a parent, its a great place.

As an almumni of the school I was shocked and somewhat disappointed at how easy college has been for me. I was expecting having to work hard for my grade and be crying every night as we are taught in society to accept when you go off to college. I have had the opposite experience due to my educational background given to me from this facility. The teachers deeply and truly care for their students. I always struggled with math and was able to jump a whole grade level due to dedication my math teachers showed me. My AP tests were a breeze because the teachers expect more from you than the actual judges who grade the tests. I am forever grateful for this school and the staff members. A few of the female staff members consider me their own child and always would look out for me. At this school you are more than just a Kid, they KNOW you and your family and want to take care of you and help you succeed on whatever path you desire. The fact that it is a STEM school was such a bonus to me in the end. When I started the school in the 6th grade I hated science. I kept telling my mom how much I hated it, then 6 months later I was on the Science Olympiad team and my mom was having to drag me out of the building everyday. 😂If you are looking for a smaller environment for your student, with hands on learning especially towards STEM education, with teachers who care this is the place for you.

I personally go to OSS and I can say, over the past few years everything has been good. You may be thinking, none of the teachers speak English. Well, they all speak English fine and coherently. You may also think that it only focuses of science. Well, that is not true. I excel in all topics, because all my teachers have great material in all subjects. Finally, you may think that because it is in the city, it has no excesses. Well, let me tell you, in the last Soccer match, we beat Howard Middle! Do not listen to the haters. I read the other reviews. Most had bad grammar and are racist. I, howver, am saying this in sincerity. Go to OSS!

Offers a lot of activities. For example CMP. It doesnt only focus on math and science like the other reviews have stated. They teach college readiness starting from 8th grade so when your child becomes in 12th grade they can hopefully score 1500+. Many different AP courses options, like AP Lit and AP Chem. Students have graduated to IVY Leagues. There are also students who have graduated earlier and been excepted to MIT. Yes, the school doesnt offer sports but they have a humongous field and have P.E. as a class if your child wants to have sports. My child has been going to this school for years now and we are very happy as a family of this school.

I guess you could say Im a seasoned veteran of OSS; Ive been here for five years!! As a student who has just graduated from this school this past May and will be attending Emory University, one of the top twenty universities in the nation, I have nothing but great things to say about OSS. Its funny because I plan on majoring in English and creative writing---but that just goes to show how amazing OSS is at bolstering other fields of academia; the environment here just supports learning, passion, and talent as a whole! The school has prominent biomedical and engineering programs, so if youre into that kind of thing you should definitely attend! Yes, its true we dont have many athletic facilities, but thats not what OSS is for; its a SCIENCE school. No one should expect anything different. Being such a close-knit school, the community here feels more like a family than anything else--and I can certainly say that I will miss my little family here once I head off to GA!OSS is super academics-based, but if youre dedicated enough and love learning, attending this school is an investment you will never regret.

A lot of the reviews Ive read dont hold much water, and Id rather give my take on my experience here.To children interested in STEM - great! Youve found the right place. They have many clubs centered around STEM; including a robotics, competitive math, etc. They also offer competitive courses for each of the Math & Science classes. For example, if someone were taking Algebra II Honors, they have a class called Algebra II Honors Competitive, where you learn strategies to do math problems faster, more efficiently, and easier. If youre a gifted student, even better. Instead of having a single class with many gifted students, every course they have includes an honors and gifted version. Gifted classrooms go at twice the pace, hence the last few weeks of school are sort of boring. The school has a great homework system for students that are absent. Through their website, you can access a site that allows you to see your homework and classwork for that particular class. That is, of course, if your teacher updates the class. Many dont. With every positive, there is a negative. Bullying goes around the school, and this year Ive already seen a dose of it. The school itself is in the middle of many warehouses, and therefore there isnt much space to do anything outside of school. P.E. takes place mainly in the gym; and with 2-3 classes in the gym each day, it can easily get cluttered. Sometimes, teachers will ask students to perform activities outside of the school, in a small green field thats not too large at all - about the size of a backyard - and certainly not appropriate for sports, especially since there are 3 trees right on the field itself. The student pickup system could be more efficient, with a large line of cars around the warehouse-school waiting to pick up students. The school itself isnt too large, especially the middle-and-highschool portion. There are 4 minutes to get from class to class. This can be difficult in scenarios where you are on one end to the school to the other, having to go to your locker in the process. You are not allowed to wear a backpack or anything of the sort, and have to carry your books for certain classes around everywhere. Many reviews say that the teachers are mainly Turkish - which is true - but it doesnt mean that they are hard to understand. This year, 4/6 of my teachers are Turkish, and theres only 1 I have difficulty understanding at times.Overall, the school is what youd expect from a normal Public School, except smaller. Personally, Im okay with it. But there have to be some major improvements soon.

Ive been going to this school since I was in 6th grade. Leaving was probably the best thing I ever did. I was so depressed at this school and I went from being a super happy and fun person to someone who didnt want to do with anyone. If youve noticed most of the good ratings about this school have been from either teachers or parents of the students. I know my parents tell everyone who asks them about this school how amazing it is. But as the student myself I would completely disagree. As the student myself, I hated everyday and wanted to leave as soon as possible. I would have to make excuses just so my parent would come and pick me up. And the good ratings by the students are by the students who were favored or treated better because the staff and teachers held them on a high throne but some of those students actually worked really hard but definitely not all of them. When parents ask me about this school Im straight forward with them. The place is way too small, they cramped together the middle school and the high school, and they gave elementary their own building which really makes no sense. The whole staff is either strict or disrespectful and there are only about 2 or 3 teachers that are ok. And the bathrooms are almost always disgusting especially the P.E. locker room. Anyways, unless your kid is very interested in math or science I definitely dont recommend sending them here. Oh and they get so much money for robotics or the Olympiads and use it for that instead of fixing up the school. Youre bound to either get bullied or get into drama (and def not the performing arts kind because they most certainly dont have any of that here). Hope this helps with making your decision.

2 star might seem harsh but allow me to explain myself. Contrary to popular belief, this school does not give any academic boost in the slightest, nor provide more classes for broader subjects. To add on, their system of justice and discipline is horrid as they either 1 dont care or 2 give you afternoon detention for standing up to get a napkin. To add on most teachers dont have a sense of hygiene or common social cues. Take the language arts teacher. Many have complained how her room smells bad and she herself does not dabble in personal hygiene. To add on many students have reported she does wear undergarments, which is completely unacceptable considering this is a learning environment. And some teachers donqt understand how to talk to students. Furthermore, the food is really bad I havent had the best food all my life, but this food has made me question what really is bad food. To wrap this off, the bathrooms require cleaning. (P.S - ms chandler, mr james, ms leard, and mr murphy are the only good teachers)Also if any of the staff are reading this and are trying to find who this is and suspend them. Students at this school are basically prisoners. I do commend some oss staff members for surviving so long. Students have no rights, voice or anything. Staff members like felisiano or st halire is whats bringing this school down they will not respect your children and will treat your children a little less than dirt. I do commend the principle for caring for the students and trying to appease us as students of the school. I would not recommend anyone bring their child to this school. we do not have sports teams for high schoolers. This school offers the same things as public schools if not less. As a parent of 2 children attending this school, I can say with out a doubt, this is the place to be for a wellb rounded out of the tunnel teaching place. This school teaches the kids to learn, not to teach to take a test. I am s o impressed on all levels . Your child will be given expected to achieve, and the school provides many ways to help your child succeed. This is not a one size fits all school. There are so many opportunities available and its not just science or math, there is robotics, geography, spelling, and many more programs. I have and I will continue to recommend this school to everyone I know. My children have excelled while attending here, and I will never send my kids back to a plain county school again. The cultural aspect of the school, I feel is very important. Being exposed to multi cultures and learning to have an appreciation for others is taught regularly here in the school, being a mixed culture family, this is very refreshing considering the predjudices of society, but those predjudices dont exist here. There are so many opportunities for my kids, that I have to decline some due to lack of time! We love it here!

I started going to Orlando Science Middle School in 6th grade and will now be going to the high school. Unlike many of the reviews have said, the teachers are amazing and understandable. The workload and assignments that teachers give students are reasonable and help students understand the subject. Many teachers dedicate so much of their own personal time by staying until 8 oclock on some days. The principal himself also directly helps students. Some teachers even come on Sundays to help students. The school also provides Saturday Studies which help students to prepare for various exams such as FSA, EOCs, the SAT, and AP exams. The clubs have definitely diversified and provide many opportunities for students to develop their own talents and skills. The math clubs are taught by diligent teachers. The science olympiad team made it to nationals this year. The robotics team made it to world. There are many other clubs such as chess club, oil painting etc.The school also funds many interesting and valuable field trips throughout the year. The school is also very invested in the students success. Many people may not like the small size of the school, however, it is expanding every year. Orlando Science Schools isnt for everyone. It may not have the fancy track teams or swimming pool, however, this school is something that is like no other. A family. The teachers teach students as though their own, and have free tutoring after school on given days. They go above and beyond all expectations when teaching in class, and although at times they might be strict and assign more homework than any regular school, the reasoning behind it is to keep the children ahead. They are not like most schools, being a charter and public school, but they definitely keep up their A+ as a whole. I know this speaking as a 8th grader attending this school. Ive gone through 6th through 8th grade with many struggles, but Ive kept up all As the whole time. They have standard, advanced and gifted classes, so if they are struggling, they will get additional help. It isnt easy, but if your child isnt up to the challenging, yet effective techniques, then thats on them. Not the school.

Ive been at this school for 3 years, and from what ive experienced, i have very mixed feelings about OSS. most of what i say is gonna be criticism though. (my review is pretty long but ill but a tl;dr at the end)the teachers here are alright. ive met a really nice teacher that i felt did a very good job, and most of them have some ups and downs, but at least get the job done well with not many problems. but some of the teachers werent that good. in one class, i would write almost all of my notes down while trying to make sure i understood them, and yet i had no idea how to do the work because i never saw it on the notes. none of the stuff i wrote down would be in the tests as well. some other classes would give out so many projects and homework that even my parents said it was getting out of hand. ive also met some teachers with biases (fortunately i was one of the favored ones, but one of my friends wasnt so lucky and they would tell me how much they got punished, that teacher is gone now though). but overall, most of the teachers actually taught me stuff and i would say they did a good job teaching.id say that some of the rules that are in place (especially dress code) are a little too harsh, but at the same time, i see some students get away with things that they shouldnt get away with, but not all the time. it was kinda like spinning a wheel to see if they would actually go and punish you or not. i personally dont like uniforms, but i wouldnt say this school is horrible because of uniforms, thats their choice and I respect it. I just think the dress code can be too much, because it gets to the point where you could get in trouble because of the color of your socks (which did happen to me once). although, i do like the fact that they give us dress down days and spirit week, as well as club shirts that we can wear during a normal school day, so were not in our uniforms for the entirety of the school year.I havent had that many problems with students bullying or being rude to other students other than one time (and i wont get into that story). and during that time they assigned me a counsellor, but it was just the dean. they did offer good ways to help, though, but once it got really bad they told me to ignore it (which i seriously couldnt do and the problem took over my brain) and i never went back. other than that, the students act well most of the time and dont cause any fights or anything.the environment is pretty small, especially for a middle and high school combined. other than that, i wish the place was a little bit cleaner. the yard that we do PE in had broken glass that i never saw get cleaned up, and im worried that somebody could get cut out there.i cant say much else. im sure this place is wonderful if youre interested in anything STEM related, but it wasnt the right place for me, which isnt the schools fault at all. i just have different interests. i had a pretty good 3 years, though. so theres that.TL;DR: most teachers do a good job teaching, but some really need to get better. i wish the rules were less harsh, and the school needs to improve their counselling a little. also, someone should really do something about the glass in the yard.

Amazing school with amazing teachers. Many people say that teachers in this school cannot speak English because they are Turkish but that is complete nonsense. All the teachers can speak english sufficient enough to teach and lead their own classroom. They are way more dedicated to achieving high academic than normal public school teacher. Many do not like this school because the instructors give many assignments. However, this is another step for the school to prepare us for High School. So we got to deal with it because it will definitely help to survive high school without a problem. The school offer academic club and classes that are very rarely offered in many public schools because the teacher in public school are not certified/good enough to teach these classes. They offer Competition Math (Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, High School ), Science Olympiad (Earth, Life, Physical, High School), and Robotics. The school recruits and uses teachers who are certified and are intelligent enough to teach above the standards provided by the state or county. Also, look at the record. OSS has been Florida State Champion for Science Olympiad, 2nd Place in State of Florida for Mathcounts and regional champion for both mathcounts and science olympiad. It also has been always the top schools in the standardized test field such as AP, FSA, SAT, ACT, and PSAT. They have no control whatsoever of their classes they will teach even if no one is listening or they will just give up and let the students do whatever they want. This school has horrible clubs for example FBLA I joined when it started and we never did anything. We sat in the classroom and students were on their phones teachers on their computers and no one learning. The school has a terrible learning environment its such a negative place to be. The school is so small that there would be two classes in one classroom and if every room was full we had to go outside and have class while the kids are out there playing making a ton of noise.Classes would sometimes even be held in the cafeteria while other kids are there eating. The school doesnt even have any good sports teams. I have barely learned anything. Students do not get motivated to do anything. The staff enforce idiotic rules such as having your uniform proper, Yes I do understand students must look decent with their shirts tucked in but they made that more important when there were actual problems such as bullying, students vandalizing the restrooms, and drugs have been brought into this school but since teachers are more focused on how the students are presenting themselves all of this is happening right under their noses. Also, the food is nauseating. This school does not know how to host events they are the most boring and awkward events ever. Sure we have important college people coming over but what they see in reality is just the front the school puts up for them because if they actually spent at least a whole day with a class they would be completely shocked. Some of the teachers barely speak English. Im not even sure they are actually qualified to teach. Orlando Science Schools only cares about their robotics club they put all their time money and energy into it. If they would put at least half of that effort into other areas of the school it would be so much better. The back of the school is a dirt road filled with holes and its horrible to drive through there. The halls are so crowded its hell trying to walk through there since its so small. Also, some teachers are so strict about the weirdest things such as walking in line straight like what in the world? Were highschoolers. I mean obviously if theyre going to treat us like children we will become rebellious they try to have so much control of us its ridiculous. Some teachers are too strict and others just couldnt care less. I could keep talking all day to be honest. Now not everything is bad there were some good things such as the ladies at the front, they are very hardworking and dedicated to their jobs and are some of the nicest people you will meet but they unfortunately have little to no power in order to change things about the school. Another good thing is that they dont give much homework and for the good teachers if you are on their good side and they see your effort they will help you quite a bit in order to get a better grade. Also..................No I cant find anything else. But if you love your child do not enroll them here unless you want to punish them.

Orlando Science Schools has been my second home since I left elementary school. I am currently a sophomore and initially my opinion of this school was mixed. I had a hard time relating with the other students in my elementary school. I was always top in my class and I never made any close friends in my elementary school. My parents then found out about OSS, and they enrolled me. My initial impressions were mixed. Upon first entrance I hated the school. I had a uniform, and I thought the school seemed very small for a middle school, as I went in with high expectations. Then the year started and I was happy. All of the students were academically striving like I was and It wasnt very difficult to make friends. 6th grade ok, nothing special. My teachers overall were great. 7th grade year was a lot tougher for me and a majority of my friends had left. I felt that 7th grade was my worst at OSS, I got in my fair share of trouble at OSS that year, many of which may have been arguably unjustified, and following 7th grade I didnt want any part of this school. 8th grade, i ended coming back to OSS to my parents request, and this year was the greatest for me. The teachers this year were phenomenal, and i understood just how cooperative the teachers were. My dad is the type of parent who always wants to keep in touch with the teachers, and he got responses to almost all of his emails. After 8th grade, i was torn whether i wanted to go to a different high school or not. I decided to return to OSS. I discovered that half the class left, but this was allright. The teachers we got in freshman year were amazing. Especially the history teacher, as i would be hard pressed to find a better history teacher anywhere else. The road to the ap test was paved with Saturday studies and dedication from the teacher and the administration. The administration kept in frequent contact with my parents, and planned my highschool plan well. Finally 9th grade ended with good resultsCons: The school has its fair share of cons which keep me from rating 5 stars. I would rate 4.5 if google allowed me but i cannot. There is a lack of any sporting activity at the school. If the school freed up a share of their budget i believe they can renovate the gym, and we can have a decent basketball teamThe school is very small, and there isnt a campus. This isnt a problem for me but it may be a problem for others considering the schoolThere arent many art/drama options available in the school, but i believe this is subject to changeThe highschoolers and middle schoolers are in the same building. This may be a problem for others but i dont mindThere are many more cons of the school, but i believe that my personal experience has been amazing, so they do not apply to me

I WOULDNT EVEN GIVE THIS SCHOOL ONE STAR BUT I HAD TOOI have been at oss for 4 year and i am Leaving finally. i can honestly say i Hate this school with a passion. if u take a look at some of the review they are the teachers Hey i wouldnt recommend sending my child here ever. They are racist and show so much favoritism this school sucks so much. Everyone is so miserable. Teachers always have a very bad attitude. I would love to call them out but i will not. Most teachers at oss dont even seem Qualified to teach at all. At this school we cant even use the rest room if you teacher says no he says no with out even giving you a reason and if you walk out you get a referral. This school inst fair at all. They let some student suffer the consequences and others do not. I am treated as a minority fading into stereo types. Do not send your children here. this is a terrible school and should be shut down for the sake of the children . And further more the dont even have enough class rooms nor teachers to teach student necessary assessment there fore the can open an elementary part t the school is this for education or money the playground is a hazard. we dont have a proper p.e area we play in the bpl back parking lot which is a dirt road where the ambulance is often called and they still yet have to open another school this doent make any possivble since also to put the gravy on this biscut when some of the teachers talk you cant even understand a word they say there fore how can i learn and prosper and they blame us because they suck at being a school. i Scream Law Suit!!!!
