The YMCA in Pearland is a family-focused place and our kids have a wide variety of activities to choose from year-round. The prices are reasonable for membership and classes for kids. Soccer, swim, archery, art...my kids love to try it all. They are in a safe and fun environment and their Y coaches and leaders are an extension of their community!

Would not recommend. Its super small. Probably the worst gym Ive visited in Pearland. In desperate need of an upgrade. The lockers are rusted. Not many benches or weights. Go if you play basketball or swim. Thats about it.

I love the family atmosphere and the staff at this location. There’s lots of activities for every member in age group of my family. I also really enjoy the child watch and the staff that work it. The facilities are clean and we go there 4 to 5 times a week. I love the splash pad and the pool for summer swimming. I am also planning to enroll my kids in the youth sports leagues.

Loved being part of the Vic Coppinger YMCA. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. They’d greet me with smiles (even on early mornings) and get equipment out for me when they saw me pull up to swim laps. The facility was kept clean and the workout equipment kept in great working order. Such a good community resource. Sad to have moved away from it

I love that each of the treadmills and elipticals at the Y have their own tv screens, something a lot of the fad gyms dont have. The Y offers a variety of classes which are fun and motivating. The instructors are great! I also like the feel of community at the Vic Coppinger Y ... very friendly place!

My husband and I excitedly enrolled in the YMCA Vic Coppinger to enjoy the many opportunities to exercise with my family. Although I enjoyed the amenities this negative review comes after an incident in the daycare facility. I dropped off my son for a 1.5 hour workout. When I came back to get him, I was informed that another child choked my son with both hands around his neck. The other child was restrained and then kicked out for the day. I was told by the young man working that day that the child is a daily visitor and has acted that way many times, that they were aware of his aggressive behavior towards other children and that he is usually placed one-to-one with another worker. The situation was written up but nothing ever came from that. We emailed Sam Gray but received no response as to whether that child would be allowed back into the facility. We then emailed the director Suzanne Murray and it has now been over a month with no response from either. We have cancelled our membership as I could no longer place my son into a dangerous facility where no one is concerned about the safety of children. How unfortunate for the city of Pearland. I truly had great hopes that this place would be special for our family.

40 Seconds after walking in and immediately asked to put on a shirt, because wearing a tank top was against policy, even though other members were also wearing tank tops and never spoken to. There were no rules being broken. They were displaying acts of blatant discrimination.

I joined the YMCA recently and got Angie SCHMIDT as a personal trainer. She was concerned about my physical issues and addressed them to make sure that I was safe. ANGIE is a good personal trainer and I believe she really enjoys helping people reach their goals I recommend this facility and all employees that work there.

The Vic Coppinger Y has an excellent Home School Program for our home schoolers in the Pearland area. My son Jonah is apart ofseveral programs offered, such as P.E., Robotics, Chess, and Swimming, he especially likes the Summer Camp program. Thank you so much for providing the students with a wide range of activities outside of their studies. As a home school working Mom, I also enjoy the different fitness classes and the bonuses thats connected to my membership, such as cycling and yoga classes and a variety of exercise machines for a more intense workout. I really appreciate the time and effort the staff members has put in order to meet the mind, body and fitness needs of the entire family. The Vic Coppinger Y is a great asset to the Pearland community. The Moore Family

I like the wide range of sports programs/activities offered here. It gives my kids opportunities to try diff sports and to see if they like or not. My son has tried soccer, basketball, and now he wants to join volleyball. Dabbling in diff activities helps me gauge his strengths and weaknesses too. We have enjoyed being a part of the Vic Coppinger Pearland YMCA and I highly recommend them to my friends and family. The sports director, Bryan Rodriguez, is extremely helpful, friendly, and attentive to everyone’s needs. He has always been more than willing to help with any questions or issues that we have and resolves them in a timely manner; mainly with practice schedules. We love his attention to detail and informative emails. Thank you!!!!!

Place is a joke ran by kids. Tried to schedule swimming lessons with both kids at the same time. They called trying to move one kid to another time schedule. This happened twice. Beginning and end of summer. I ended up cancelling classes for both of them. They said they would refund my money. Had to call back multiple times to actually get the refund. People answering phones are rude and make you wait on hold for half an hour then try to send you to a voicemail and then when you call back they say theyll take your info and call you back.... If you want best for your kids go somewhere better.

This place is amazing. My whole adult life I have looked for a gym and they all felts wrong. Sort of like the gym was only for fit people not people trying to get that way. Since joining the YMCA I actually enjoy going to the gym. This place feels like a family. If you are looking to impress someone maybe dont pick the YMCA but if you want to get fit and feel comfortable doing so... pick the Vic Coppinger Family Y

The gym is great there and there is always space on the other side for drills while the other half are usually for full court games. The only down side is the daycare or Zumba classes come in, forcing half the court to the other side. Overall it is a great gym!

I love this Y. I have taken classes there in the past but now use the wellness center for lifting and cardio. The weight area is not intimidating at all, it is diverse in age and ethnicity that reflects our community which I love. There is definitely a friendly and helpful atmosphere, with staff available to assist and monitor. I also have 4 children and have recently started bringing my 8 yr old in for cardio. The others enjoy the child watch area, they have planned activities (trivia, outside time, games) and arent just sitting around. This Y is very family friendly and well worth the membership for our family! Love it!

My son was a GUEST of a friend today at your establishment. He was supposed to stay until 3 PM so I was surprised and concerned when he called to be picked up early. Ive confirmed with your staff that my son wanted to leave early because his friend went to basketball camp and his GUEST (my son) was NOT allowed to go. Sooooo, my son was a GUEST of YOUR business and you expected him to what? Hang out alone? What a HORRIBLE experience for him! Why would you treat a GUEST that way?? Instead of coming home and wanting to JOIN your business he now has NO DESIRE whatsoever to go back. You really missed an opportunity to gain a new customer.

This place is built on Christian values yet has some of the worst management!! I was sitting down in their lobby area waiting for my son and I watched one of their employees racial profile a group of kids. This short man who works for the Y brought out all of the African American kids who were in the basketball court and force them all to scan in to the facility again, keep in mind some of these kids were already members and others had already signed in as guest before so they were in the system and my son confirmed! They were not doing anything disruptive or something to cause a scene the way this employee did! not even 2 minutes later, 4 white kids come in and he doesn’t bat an eye when they bring in their guests. This happened a couple of days ago but this ain’t the first time I have seen this happen, the 2 white female managers at this facility have seen these occurrences happen but are oblivious and allow this to happen. I will not be bringing my son here again, these people need to practice what they preach talking bout “community” and “inclusivity”.

Weve been members for the past years and we love the place, but lately Ive had several issues with the eft payments. This is the third time YMCA withdraws more than the amount they said. Every time I ask to speak to the person in charge of this issue is never available, they just tell me that someone will contact me and so far I have not received any calls. It is sad that because of the lack of organization that YMCA is having with our payments now we have to switch to another gym.

I took my kids for basketball Pratice but the courts are inaccessible due to staff there using one of the courts for fun. The court was occupied by adults and plus it is oftenly rarely open for young kids to play. Very disappointed. And most of the time we are in the courts, there are no volleyballs to use, or basically any other balls besides basketballs available for us.

PARENTS BEWARE Signing your child up for the afterschool dropin program? READ THIS. We called prior to arriving to this location to verify the fees involved, if there are any associated registration or membership fees for their afterschool program and was told no additional fees just the drop in rate. We called back on a different day to clarify this again as you have to go into the location to register and again was told no additional fees to register just the drop in fee rate was applicable. Upon arriving to register I was told that they were sorry but that they do indeed have a registration fee for the program AND they refused to waive the fee despite being clear and admitting that they provided the wrong information although they could not explain why they provided that information. We were told by the manager specifically that she had no authority to waive the fee as the school program was separate from the YMCA even though when you call you speak to YMCA staff. They called the director of the program who specifically refused to waive the fee EVEN after she was informed by the YMCA staff that they mis-informed us. This is part of the reason why I have stayed away from their programs for so long as my older daughter use to use their services but we stopped because of the same thing...poor communication and lack of organization. That was 6 years ago. Doesnt look like much has changed.

I love the camp and everything. I like the programs and fun activities and all but there is one thing that I dont like AT ALL.There summer camp cell phone policy is very illogical. I dont like their policy because if we dont want to play a outdoor game like soccer or kickball and we have like some medical condition were we cant run or jump such as asthma or other lung and body issues. There is nothing to do when we sit in the heat for 2 hours STRAIGHT. Even if we are indoors in the gym and there is AC, still there is nothing to do.Also what if your parents call you cause of an emergency or something and they want their child if they have a phone but what if they take away their phones and they say i quote my mom is in danger or needs something important but the counselors will see that as a dumb excuse so they wont belive them. This can cause a lawsuit. You never know what can happen if you dont have your phone. This policy should not apply to all people. There are some kids that actually listen to their counselors even with a phone in their hand. Like me!

I love the YMCA and the many good things it offers the community. The YMCA running after school programs at several schools of PISD jurisdiction. One such school is Lawhon Elementary.I have noted something that is rather unusual and puzzling. The teachers at this program require the children to take off one shoe to be kept with the instructors until the child returns his/her pencil before they leave. Surely there is a better way of teaching children than such a practice? How about give the child a sticker when they pick up after themselves or return a borrowed pencil? I wonder if PISD superintendent thinks this is very educational? Who is checking on those programs and who is the director? YMCA site says nothing about who to complain to and that is not a very good thing either..
