My daughter attends Reflex dance in Sarasota on university and Lockwood ridge. My family owned a huge studio in the area for 20 years so I can tell you from experience that what I love about Jackies school is that she emphasizes respect for all students and staff. I cant tell you how easy it is for parents or kids to start negative energy in the studio. I owned my own dance studio for 8.5 years as well and once the dance mom energy seeps in, it is SOOOO hard to get out.There isnt an ounce of competitiveness in the classroom at Reflex. All students are given equal time in front of the room and everyone is treated equally. Jackie is one of the most down to earth studio owners I have ever met (and being raised by one and being one myself I now its easy to get stressed and cranky) I dont know how she stays so cool but I am pleased to have my child in her class (she is 5) and love when I get time to teach her advanced students who have a strong ballet technique and the best attitudes ever ❤I now teach yoga and train yoga therapists and I cant tell you how many ex-dancers we have trying to overcome past self esteem issues driven by their dance training. It can be a very slippery slope to be obsessing in the mirror or have a teacher make an innocent comment about your body that leads to a lifetime of issues. One of the reasons I am wary of dance or gymnastics is because I know first hand how easy it is to break kids down in that room. I feel like my child gets nothing but love (sometimes tough because lord knows she needs it!) from Jackie and all the staff at Reflex.
