The professors really care about students goals and safety. They are easy going with a good sense of humor and respect. Mats are VERY clean. The curriculum is well structured, I enjoy being able to watch the lesson before class. I travel a lot too, and knowing I can go to any gym in their massive network is great. With all the extensive resources, it is easily worth the membership fee. It would be nice to add showers in this location.

Charged us $500 for a “free trail” we were told if we never used we wouldn’t be charged! We never stepped foot on the mat for training!!We communicated with coaches that we wouldn’t be even utilizing trial and our schedules were too busy for us to take on another hobby.No excuse for charging us nearly $500 in one week!They assured us it was a mistake but still have not refunded our money for the transactions! DIS’GRACEful!

We wanted to try it out for the summer. My girls enjoyed the classes, but this facility is running glade plug ins at every plug, and the scent is beyond overwhelming. It gave me and my children extreme headaches. Moreover, they require 30 days to cancel, but they will charge an actual additional five weeks as it forwards to your next payment day after the 30 days before they will start the clock running. So in point of fact, you need to give five weeks notice. The uniforms are over priced and not comfortable. It is very branded. Having done many summer activities with my kids, this was just not a good fit for many reasons.

Shady and unethical conduct. Misrepresenting program under the guis of ‘free summer training’Frank, convinced me to sign up with the assurance my card would NEVER be charged, unless after August my husband and I had decided that we wanted to CONTINUE TRAINING.Frank said this was a great promo because we could decide for Free over the next 2 months if we enjoyed and wanted to commit without paying for training.The next step was getting a Gee if we wanted to begin on the mat. Next i was to purchase our Gee, costs $200 each!It would have cost $400 for this “free training”I’m sure it would have been worth the money to begin , had I been aware of the expense ahead.At that point When I considered all things and asked my husband his thoughts at home, we decided that it was too much to commit to and add in our busy schedules and school just beginning again.We received a text invite to hit the mat for an orientation class from Frank in July,I declined and explained to Frank that we wouldn’t be able to make the orientation and would not be purchasing gees or training with Gracie Barra. We just couldn’t commit to it in our lives and would not be taking advantage of free trail or training in the future. Frank replied ‘no problem, thanks for the update’Coach (Meesh?) sent my husband a text inquiring about when we would be on the mat at the end of August. My husband was surprised and quickly responded that we had already declined training and clarified that we had never been on the mat before or purchased our uniforms,to be sure we wouldn’t be charged and were completely clear in our agreement and card on file not being charged.He was told to send email just to be sure. So, he did so immediately !The NEXT DAY unbeknownst/unauthorized charges from Gracie for $20, $20, $”207.94!!!We immediately contacted our bank to dispute and coach. Gracie assured us they would look into it for refund and get back to us. They did not!A day later hit our card again for $207.94!Nearly $500 in a one week period! For what?!?.I am appalled by the disrespect and lack of integrity in the ongoing conduct of Gracie Barra. They have yet to refund the money they took! $500 IN THE MONTH OF AUGUST IN 1 week period for a service we NEVER EVEN STEPPED FOOT ON MAT FOR AND $500 and they were “looking” into it ??! Unexceptionable!! Shady and wrong!

Prof. Victor and prof Nivian are EPIC I’ve trained at a few gyms and these two actually compete and are hungry to get better each day and encourages their team to get better each day. It really feels like a family at this gym!

First, I want to make clear that this review does not reflect the actual jiujitsu professors. Prof. Victor and Nivian are fantastic.However, I write a 1-star review due to the cunning sales tactics, poor communication, and predatory contract. “Coach” frank (just a sales rep), is very good and persistent at making the sale. Please be wary and read the whole contract. There’s a predatory 60-day cancellation notice. He will also tell you it’s no problem to freeze your account, but there is actually a monthly fee to do so. I was not aware of this until I requested to see my contract. There is never any mention of these fees until they already charge you for it.When I tried to freeze my account, I called before the billing date. However, I received a charge for double my monthly membership. I disputed the charge on my card and it was cancelled. From then on, I was nonstop hassled by Frank to make the payment. I explained I was not going to do that because I froze my account. He then upped my membership from $150 to $189, charged me a late fee, and a charge back fee, which was totally uncalled for due to his negligence of initially overcharging me and failing to freeze my account. I did not agree to the increased membership fee and no where in the contract was he allowed to bill me a charge back fee (that is only for those who pay monthly by check). I had enough of these miscellaneous fees and wrote them a check for $378 to be done with them.Please do not make my amateur mistake and read the whole contract and negotiate with them if possible. I am moving jiujitsu gyms and going to 10th planet as they do not require a contract. Just know they’re other options out there that have fairer billing systems.

Stay away from this place! I initially placed my membership on hold at the start of the pandemic and then cancelled in June 2020. I work in health care and could not train due to the increased workload during the COVID surge and concerns for health and safety due to the nature of jiu jitsu. Despite multiple cancellation requests, I am being charged repeatedly month after month. I have emailed Frank the manager multiple times and spoken with him directly to cancel, to no avail. I had to go through our credit card to dispute the charges and change our credit card to prevent him from charging us again and again. Beware! There are many competent and professional BJJ schools around. I would choose another.

Would not recommend this business. We started off with our daughter when she was just shy of 6 years old. She attended for a little over a year and while it started off well things seemed to deteriorate over time. The instructors were very nice (Diego and Victor) and always made us feel at home. They did have a front desk attendant also who was always there to greet us. Diego went back to Brazil and they transferred the front desk attendant. A handful of other people came in and never introduced themselves to us. As time went by we noticed they continually paired our daughter with the younger kids. The class was 3-6 and she was on the older side but they said they liked how she taught them and was nice with them. A sentiment that was nice if it was occasionally used but paying $176 a month we would hope that she could get taught herself... at least the majority of the time. We eventually asked if she could move up and they agreed she was ready. We were not aware the next class involved chokes and she was paired with a very advanced girl. The instructors did not warn our daughter about chokes and how to tap out ahead of time so she was choked and unable to communicate when she was in trouble. The instructor to child ratio also was a problem because they did not see when she was in trouble and myself and the girl who performed the choke were the only ones to notice. She was fairly traumatized by that and we decided to give her a break. When we went to cancel they directed us to an online billing. We had already not been there for a couple months and they billed us a stay every month so we had to be charged while our account was on hold because of the yearly contract. When we signed up they communicated with us that the contract for kids was lenient and they understood kids changed their minds so they would not be strict and we wouldnt have to worry. They clearly did not mean that and billed a monthly fee anyway. We decided to cancel. They didnt seem to care about our daughter or ask where she was. We canceled 1-2 days late of their 30 day notice policy So we had to pay for a month that we werent going to be there. I attempted to dispute this with the bank but they proceeded to fight it. They care more about the money. Be very careful when they tell you otherwise. We are very disappointed in our experience and will let everyone know about it. They ripped off our family.

I absolutely love this place teaches kids respect and how to follow directions. Victor is one of the owners who is amazing with the kids. I highly recommend

You know when you have that moment when the light goes on in your head and you say to yourself where has this been my whole life? - yeah, thats what happened for my family after one day with Gracie Barra Scottsdale. I started there because of my kids, and I can say with 100% certainty that it is the best decision Ive ever made. The professors and coaches are amazing with the kids, juniors and adults. One month with them and you know your life has changed for the better... forever.

When you first start here they make the kids feel special. But, DONT SIGN THE CONTRACT ITS A TRAP. My son loved it the first few months everyone was nice. We moved I canceled our membership I had to pay 2-3 months worth of membership before they would let me cancel. Unless you know 100% you kid will go religiously dont make my mistake and sign that contract.

Gracie Barra Scottsdale is an incredible facility with phenomenal instructors! The staff and students are all very welcoming and friendly. They have classes for children as young as 3 and the best part is the childrens classes happen at the same time as fitness classes for adults! You can drop your child off for a class filled with fitness, self defense, and life lessons while mom or dad get their own workout in at the same time at the same place!

Professional & respectful world-class instruction best describes my training experience. Family type atmosphere that brings value to every aspect of your life. My only regret, wish I had started down this martial art journey at Gracie Barra 20 years ago...

Excellent Place to learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Safe learning environment and very good instruction. I moved away so my commute was too far or I’d be there.

My husband and I wanted to put our son in either karate or jiu jitsu. So we had called different places around the area to find a good school, but some places didn’t answer our phone calls, didn’t call us back or even touch bases with us. My husband decided to call Gracie Barra and they didn’t answer the call, but he did leave a message and Wow!!! I never seen a place call back so fast. The gentleman we talk to was very nice and professional and he had shared some information that was very helpful and was able to get us in right away and he had explained everything very clearly and gave us the best price option for the program. It was a great experience and I would definitely recommend this company to others.

Visited this GB school from out of town. They welcomed me like one of their own. Excellent instruction from extremely talented black belt professors who communicate with patience and precision. Lots of variety in training partners with white-black belt students. This is where I plan on rolling every time I’m in Scottsdale.

I have trained under these guys for the past 6 years at the first school they started in San Clemente. I cannot say enough good things about these men. Dont go here!!!!!!!!! I bought a Groupon to try it out for my 5 year old son. It was unlimited classes for 1 month. After my first class they told me that I had to sign a year contract to take advantage of my Groupon which was not in the FINE PRINT!! Then after I questioned them and asked to speak with the owner they said they would honor my Groupon but I would have to purchase a uniform from them which was $100 or more. I told him I dont even know if he would continue after the end of the month and so far this has been a horrible experience. So it ended as he told me he would not honor my Groupon unless I bought a uniform which I was not going to do. Its funny they teach Honor to the kids as one of their virtues and that is something they lacking exponentially. Very disappointing!!

You will not find a better group of instructors, professors and overall good people than the group at GB Scottsdale. My 8-year-old son and I had the privilege of training under Professor Diogo for 3 years. I highly recommend GB Scottsdale for students of all ages.

The best academy to learn from is Gracie Barra. I started training 8 years ago signed up because I wanted something that would challenge me in a different way. I was initially intimidated, out of shape, didnt really have a routine when I first started. I thought maybe I should start running or something first, the Professor encouraged me to give Jiu Jitsu a try and use it as a tool to get you into shape. Eight years later Im still training. I was able go at my own pace, there was several different level classes that encouraged me and challenged me at each skill level. Professor Diogo and Professor Flavio made a huge impact on the lives of my 7 and 5 year old boys. My 7 year old Lucas has trained with Professor Diogo for almost 3 years. Over that period of time, Lucas went from a hyperactive boy who struggled in pre-K to recently being voted student of the year at his Kindergarten school (true story, it was that dramatic of a transformation). My 5 year old Triston is now training at Gracie Barra and were already reaping huge benefits. Probably the most surprising is that Tristons soccer and overall athletic skills have dramatically improved since he started Jiu-Jitsu. Hes able to focus, more agile - something I didnt expect so quickly.Oh, and by the way, training with Professor Diogo and Flavio is not about kicking, punching, or MMA stuff you see on TV. The kids do work hard but they have a blast for the entire hour - my boys never complain when its time to go to the gym.
