My family (myself, wife and our two sons) all practice at this school. The head instructor has many years of experience teaching both children and adults. He is quite knowledgeable in traditional karate-do and is considered one of the premier karate practitioners in the world. Other schools often reach out to him for his expertise.The karate that is taught here is grounded in the fundamentals and has a long standing tradition. You would be hard pressed to find another karate school like this one where the instruction is encouraging without being too coddling.For those with families it is rare to be able to find an activity where the entire family can participate, especially with two young boys, but that is the case at this Karate school where you will find parents and children learning, practicing and growing together.If you are looking for a true martial arts school, I encourage you to drop in for a visit. You will not be disappointed!

Just FYI, for those who are curious Minakami Karate Dojo offers karate classes aimed for different age groups on Tuesday and Thursday nights.5pm to 6pm for children6pm to 7pm for the brave and bold, and for the adults(We also have kobudo or weapon class on Thursdays.)MKD also meets on Saturday mornings at the Greenwood Elementary School Gym.10am to 11am; and11am to noonThere is just enough room in the school gym, to divide the space, for open floor practice and for regular class. Some students often use that opportunity to practice kobudo, but it is expected that they practice on their own at home in their spare time.

I trained with Shihan Minakami from 2005 to 2008. I still think about my time there, and the lessons I have learned while I was there. Shihan Minakami is a great master to train under, and you wouldnt regret your time with this art!

Shihan Minakami is a fantastic karate teacher. I live in the UK and have traveled to Seattle to train at the Minakami Karate Dojo. We were welcomed by all the students there, who were extremely polite and courteous, the karate training was the best i have ever done and we are looking forward to Shihan Minakami visiting the UK soon. The people of Seattle are very lucky to have such a great karate master on their doorstep and we cant wait to visit again.OssuHeidi
