Probably best taekwondo studio in town.Pivoted quickly last year to offer online classes. Disappointed now to see poor enforcement of masks with staff and students, despite reinstatement of mask mandate. Frustrating because my daughter is still too young to vaccinate. I send her there...with trepidation during the delta variant.Not sure why this is now an issue after doing well last year during pandemic?Update 09/25/2021:Much better consistency with masking and compliance with health measures. Updated to 5 starsUpdate 10/18/21:Again several parents of kids refuse to wear masks. A few students but mostly good compliance. I find it frustrating that it is not enforced. Still waiting for the FDA approval for 6-12 year old kids, many of whom are students in my daughters class. Why cant this be taken seriously for the benefit of our kids?As weather gets colder, we have found it harder to spectate from outdoors.

I took my granddaughter to Blackmans for the summer session. After being home for over a year with online schooling, my granddaughter was ready to get out, get moving, and learn something new. The pace was steady and the sessions were challenging. She loved the challenge and she became more focused and confident as a result.The staff was very professional. Mr. Dillon is a great instructor dedicated to teaching others the fine art of Taekwondo. Miss Lisa was very helpful and courteous. I highly recommend Blackmans to anyone who is thinking of taking martial arts classes.

As a parent with a background in teaching and ten years personal experience in martial arts, I was very meticulous when researching martial arts schools for my son. I was looking for a school that focused on the whole child more than the belts or punches. Blackman’s delivers that and more. I am thoroughly impressed by the quality of instruction, curriculum and caring found here. My son is thriving in their classes and now my daughter is wanting to join. I highly recommend this school for their commitment to excellence.

I was extremely disappointed. When we took our 5 year old for her first class they did a 1x1 lesson and then let her break the board and it seemed like it was going to be great! We signed the contract and paid for her to enroll. Its when we started taking her to the regular classes that I really started to get disappointed. When the children were doing a move wrong no one would correct them, no one took the time to make sure the kids knew the numbers in Korean when counting they just shout it out and expect the kids to eventually catch on and that is how all.of the curriculum is, they dont teach they show and expect your child to catch on, and when they dont no one cares to correct them. Unless you are willing to pay for private lessons your kid will not very little individual instruction. Seems like they care most about money then secondly about the children actually learning fron them. For the expensive price I would have expected her to be actually learning moves but instead I would have to take time to try and correct her after class to learn the moves correctly and that should happen at the class not at home. It may be because of the age group but 5 year olds are actually very bright and can learn a lot if you give them a chance. This was just expensive day care and we will not be back and I will be sure to let all other moms in my daughters age group to really consider if Blackmans is truly the best place for young children to go to LEARN taekwondo.

Blackman’s is run like a well oiled machine. Professional and friendly staff, great communication and follow through. My son was very nervous about his first lesson, to the point he was crying and wanted to leave. Master Blackman was great with him and he was smiling with a spring in his step by the time we left. We love it so much that my other son is going to join and my wife and I will take lessons here and there to support their training.

Blackmans is the ultimate in taekwondo. They really have an awesome, comprehensive program for both kids and adults. My favorite part of the program are the instructors. They really have a personal touch, and emphasize discipline, proper form and technique, and effort above simply winning competitions and. The attitude here is wonderful and love coming here!

This is a somewhat unique review as Im not a customer of Blackmans Championship Martial Arts. I met the Blackmans through a national Martial Arts network and have gotten to know them for several years. They are high quality people, genuine, and honest. Its refreshing to see that they run their business with the same integrity as they conduct themselves in their personal lives. I had the recent good fortune to visit them at their school and was allowed to see firsthand the care, quality, and professionalism they displayed. Albuquerque, and frankly all of New Mexico couldnt hope for a better place to learn Tae Kwon-Do.

The Blackmans were very pleasant and the lady Lisa was awesome. My grandson really enjoys taking taekwondo.

Great clean gym with a wonderful family atmosphere. This is a gem as well as a gym. Most of the families take part together. Eventually the parents usually start taking part as well, some sooner rather than later. We have done basketball, baseball, & Cubscouts through BSA. This is hands down the best group of parents and most well behaved kids we have experienced! The parents help take care of your kids while you are in class. They spend a lot of time focusing on discipline with the kids! Once you pay for 2 family members the rest are free for basic courses.

After researching for a martial arts school for our family in the Albuquerque area, we are so satisfied with our choice. Masters Blackman, Ms. Becky and their whole staff are devoted to their students and treat everyone with respect and kindness. You can see and feel the pride that they have immediately upon walking through the front doors. From the lobby to the training mat and even the bathrooms you feel right at home. After doing our research around town I highly recommend Blackman Martial Arts Academy. As professional as it gets!

Not sure what the previous reviewer expected from a business that offers an awesome service. Of course they charge for EVERYTHING! They are a business. Their testing fees are very reasonable - as I have trained at other schools and found their pricing to be right in line. My children have trained there for several months and I, too, committed to a years membership. They attend consistently and I have seen the benefits of their training system. Their Instructors are well trained and genuinely care about their students. I would strongly encourage anyone considering martial arts training to check out this school. I am very happy with the product and customer service that myself and my children are receiving.

I like the way they are teaching. Sufficient instructors to cover all students. Gesner is a talented coach and instructs all kids in a class.

With the current pandemic, they decided not to cancel classes and offered “online” classes. When I called requesting to cancel, they said we are bound to our contract until August. I realize they, like everyone, are desperate to stay in business but I work in an industry that I could lose my job at any minute. To me, their attitude is irresponsible and feels greedy. I thought they were a nice place for my daughter to take martial arts but their true colors are coming out.

We have been beyond thrilled with this establishment and the instructors. We enrolled our son hoping to improve his discipline and respect and it has been very successful. I highly recommend it!

Our daughter started in pre-school and has been training for over 2 years. She absolutely loves all the classes and camps.Mr. Caleb is her favorite instructor, but all instructors are amazing and very supportive.

Our kids were gifted a trial 6 week course from a family member, and that is how we first heard about Blackman TKD. After the trial was over, my kids begged me to take them back. I did some research on a lot of locations, and yes, there are some out there that are less expensive, however, when it comes to my kids, I dont want cheap, I want the best and in my opinion that is what we have found here. The staff knows the names of all the kids, and the parents as well. It is a clean facility, great location and just an all around fun place. The instructors are quick to help when the kids need it, and I really enjoy the personal touch they all add to it. The truly cater to the kids, which is what we were looking for.

My training started with the Blackman’s when I was 5 in 2007. This place has been a safe haven for me and my family since I can remember. The friendships and connections I have made through martial arts is something I will cherish forever. As a 1st Dan Blackbelt perusing my 2nd Dan black belt, and a Lead Instructor, this is my life. The Blackman’s and their staff have taught me so much and I’m glad to be a part of classes and a part of the staff. An amazing place to train and a community of respectful understanding people. My ten year old son has been taking classes here for about 3 months and it has been really great for him. The instructors are terrific and the emphasis on respect and self control is very important to me.

My son is now a red/black belt. We feel that his involvement in taekwondo has helped his overall personal development. His grades in school have improved, and he continues to do well in all areas. He has been in Blackmans Championship Martial Arts for 4 and half years.

We have been members for 5 years and the growth we have seen from our children participating is tremendous. They have a greater ability to focus and their overall health and athletic ability has improved. I cant imagine a better martial arts school than Blackman Martial Arts Academy. My daughter began training here about a year and half ago. Watching the progress she was making in the first 6 months was so clear that my wife and I decided to join too. Weve been training for close to a year and Im stronger and more flexible now in my late 30s than Ive ever been. They offer a variety of classes like taekwondo, hapkido, self-defense, and weapons, at various times of the day giving parents and students flexibility. The instructors are all encouraging, helpful and push each student to progress to the best of their own abilities. Some days are hard on the body, while others are hard on the mind. But if youre willing to give your effort and focus on learning, its all worth it. Best of all, the instructors and fellow students become part of your life and I now consider them friends and family.

I have thoroughly enjoyed coming here. I have been coming since Augustof 2017 and have benefited greatly in many areas, some unexpected. I have experienced reduction in back pain that I sustained in a car accident a few years ago. That has been the greatest benefit, as anyone living with chronic pain can tell you. I have gained confidence in myself as well. There is something about knowing that i can take care of myself if Im ever attacked. The instructors are awesome and I love them all. The decision to join Blackmans was a game changer in my life and one of the best decisions I have ever made.

Blackman Taekwondo is an amazing facility with amazing instructors. It has become almost like a second home to my family, and the people are like family. The level of instruction and training are far above other schools in the area. It is a great place to train for both children and adults!

Blackmans Tae Kwon Do is by far the best martial arts school in the southwest. They teach genuine Korean tae kwon do, forms, words, terms, and numbers. They work on strength, power, flexibility, and integrity. Not only that - the kids program includes booklets that go far beyond just martial arts. The parents and children learn ethics/behaviors that reach well beyond the dojang. My brothers and I attended when we were younger, and now my kids get to learn from the best! I am floored by how well the dojang has kept up with technology as well, they have a new app coming out soon, and Im very excited to try it. Thanks to everyone for your continued effort in keeping Blackmans a wonderful place!!!

Weve been part taking lessons at Blackman for over three years. The instructors are amazing and have become part of the family. As for the cost of tuition mentioned by a previous poster, the self protection and self confidence learned by my girls is worth every penny.

By far the best place to learn martial arts! I have been studying Tae Kwon Do for over 21 years. A go at your own pace school with hands on training and one on one training if needed. I have learn many great strengths from Blackman Taekwondo. If you want a great martial arts and Taekwondo school then this is the place to go!

I had my kids here for 6 months. The staff and community are very nice. However the value is not the greatest. Classes were only half hour and are limited to 2 per week. The tuition is very high relative to other martial arts gyms in the area. Also the curriculum is not the most practical for real world self defense, though this may be more of a criticism of the TKD discipline than this gym in particular. I moved my kids to a Jackson/Wink gym, which I feel is a much better value in terms of price, training time per week, and well rounded curriculum. Blackman MAA might be right if you are set on TKD in particular, if you are interested in more general self defense and fitness look elsewhere.

I showed up at 3:30pm today, Wednesday, when they opened, to sign my kid up. There was a sign at the front desk saying that an instructor would be with me shortly. I noticed there appeared to only be one instructor there and he was busy teaching some children, so I waited patiently.He finished teaching them and came out and talked to other folks a few times but never came to help me and never let me know how long it would be or what was going on. He even came to the front desk once to retrieve some wooden boards but didnt say one word to me.At 4:15pm, someone else finally showed up to possibly man the front desk, but they also didnt help me. After 45 minutes of waiting and not being spoken one word to, I would like to believe I showed a ridiculous amount of patience before giving up on this place.I have no way to rate the quality of their instruction, but I have to say this is some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced in my entire life. I would recommend doing something better with your time then coming to this place.

Blackmans is a great place for your child to learn tae kwon do. It helps them focus. Teaches them to be more diligent in school and respectful to others.

This has been an amazing. I am a naturally disorganised teen Ager but since starting here I have beeen able to maintain a certain focus and organization in my life because of the training I have gotten here.

We have been bringing our oldest son here for 2 years now and we live it he has learned so much and the staff here is extremely friendly and attentive!!!!!

The program is large and relatively stable with many good role models from whom the younger children learn tae kwon do and more, how to be a good student and person.

Mr. Blackman, Tim, Becky, Mrs. Blackman ... all are great with children and excel at their profession. Our daughter loves her instructors. If not for poor health, I would be out there too. I have already recommended Blackman TKD to several people.As to the anonymous posters complaint that they were lied to, I have no idea. All I can comment on is our experience. And, I can safely say our experience completely contradicts the negative anonymous poster. We have been dealt with fairly and honestly. The cost was fairly and accurately represented, and is within our budget. Not only have we been pleased, but we have increased the number of lessons our daughter is attending. I surely would not have done that if I thought we were being treated unfairly, or if their were misrepresentations, or if it cost too much, or if I felt our daughter wasnt being lovingly cared for. Specifically, we have had a great experience. Blackman staff has been open, and transparent about costs. And, we have increased the number of classes she attends because it is a great price for what we get (you get what you pay for), and the staff is caring, professional, compassionate and highly attentive. Weve even just signed up for another package of private lessons. Id recommend the Blackman facility to anyone.

Ive been taking classes at Blackman for a few months now and I have fallen in love with Taekwondo. Not only is it a great activity for my family and me to participate in, I have gained so much strength since Ive been working out there. Ive seen my other practices like yoga benefit from my taekwondo, as well as my overall everyday confidence.
