My son, daughter and nephew all trained at Keenes ATA Martial Arts for about four years when they were middle school to early teen ages. Mr. Keene and his team helped them develop a number of skills which have continued to serve them well as they became adults and parents of their own. Positive interactions with other adult authority figures, self-reliance, confidence, leadership skills with peers and those younger than themselves, self discipline and accountability for their own emotions and actions. As a parent, the Keene Martial Arts and ATA program in general helped to provide an emotional and physical base to help reinforce the skills and attributes that I was trying to teach them at home. The physical challenges also helped provide a framework of strength and agility to develop their bodies beyond the level of most of their peers. I will be forever grateful to Mr. Keene and would highly recommend that other parents check out his Academy if they are interested in developing similar life skills for their children.

Master Keene seems to always be in bad mood and he gets easily frustrated with the students and parents. He is often seems shaking his head and rolling his eyes and has little patience when it comes to helping students learn new forms and techniques. It seems he would rather have them sit out of the class then actually guide them.The only reason I am giving this a 2 star is because my child’s original instructor Sensei J was great. He took the time to help the kids when they were confused and did not automatically think that the kids were being disrespectful if they did not get their form correct.

Keens ATA was such an amazing experience. Its an awesome and unique supportive family environment and I would recommend them ten times over to anyone who might be interested. I was a student at Keens ATA for 3 years in elementary school and I reached the level of first degree black belt. I am now about to graduate from dental school and I really feel like my time in taekwondo made a huge, lifelong impact on me. It taught me at a young age respect and confidence and also, goal setting and persistence. Every class I learned something new and they helped shape me into a successful person. The environment was always fun but serious, we all knew we were there to work and learn but also to make friends and enjoy our time. The instructors were always supportive and encouraged me to strive for excellence in every aspect of my life. They place equal emphasis on the importance of education and helping others as they do on the martial arts. As I look back on my time I think it made a big difference on me and it helped me learn the importance of balance and dedication. I also love that I can pop back into their school years later unannounced and Master Keen, Mrs. Keen, and Mr. Jaucian still recognize me and remember my name, and I even sometimes see some of my fellow classmates from all those years ago teaching classes of their own.

I signed up my son when he was in sophomore in high school, he was able to get his second degree black belt by the time he graduated from high school. I was so impressed with the quality of instruction by Master Keene and all the instructors that I signed up for lessons too! I stayed on for six years and attained the level of 3rd degree black belt.

I attended Keene’s back when I was 12 years old, I was with the studio for 4 years. I tested and earned my 1st degree black belt with this studio. I am now 26 years old and I will never be able to describe the impact Keene’s has had on my life. I was having lunch next door to the studio today when Mr. and Mrs. Keene walked in. The last time I saw them was when I was 16 years old, after 10 years they still remembered my name! I would recommend this studio to any parent, family member or friend. Thank you Keene’s for the morals and values you gave to me as a kid and everything you do!! This studio will always hold a special place in my heart!

The Owner Couple is very Money minded and only and only thinks how they can make Money....more money.They dont have values for their customers, and dont trust building long term relationships with kids and parents.Technically people realize their game late once they end up spending lot of $$ there and are kind of stuckThe owner often skips the regular classes for doing testing and other events important for owners....but if the kids skip a class and falls behind he will charge kids for taking private classes (with extra payment). This is double standard.... why can ATA skip the classes at their leisure but charge the customer for private classes if kids fall behind. Why cant show courtesy to bring kids upto spreed if needed.....this is similar to school offering kids student support.....I moved my kids to different ATA location...I recommend you stay away from this location.

Best staff/trainers. I moved from Seattle 9 months ago and enrolled my son so he could make friends and have an activity to keep him busy. BEST decision I made !! This is the best place for your child to learn martial arts from some of the best instructors. They really work hard at teaching these kids. A great community of people who are very welcoming! Thanks for making the transition/move easy for our entire family. Core values taught right here!!

Too much focus by the owner on making more money then teaching kids.Even in the COVID crises Keene family was interested in making money then safety of kids and families....

I attended my first self defense class here at ATA, I was a little nervous at first as this is a very sensitive subject with most. Master Keene and his staff presented self-defensive topic’s in a professional manner that put myself at ease as well as other attendees.He also brought up other precautions that Id never thought of. “Yes, I carry mace.” But have you every practiced spraying your mace? Do you know how far it sprays? Very informative, and would love to attend anther class and would defiantly recommend this class to anyone, need I say more.Saundra BrooksPeoria, AZ

“Women’s Fight Night” was excellent! It’s been a while since I’ve taken a self defense class, and it was good to brush up on the basics and also learn some new techniques if someone pulls a gun or knife. These are things every woman should know!

I just started taking my son over to Keenes ATA and did not realize all the benefits of martial arts. I am very pleased with the establishment and impressed by the people here who run it. My son will learn self defense along with building his own confidence and self esteem and empowerment. I also found out they have one time classes/workshops for adults for self defense. I cant wait to check it out.

This is an excellent school to learn Taekwondo!! My children have participated at the school for several years. I have watched them go through a series of ups and downs and they have improved as a result. The staff are caring and take the honor, tradition and discipline of taekwondo very seriously.On the wall is a statement that says This School is Dedicated to Black Belt Excellence.. Many schools may put that statement on the wall, but not do anything to back that statement up. This school lives up to those very words. Earning a Black belt is hard work and requires individuals to push themselves and become more than many of them thought they could be. Keenes ATA demands the best of its students.I highly recommend this School to anyone who is looking for a challenge, who wants to bring their best self forward and who wants to know that once they get their black belt it is because they have earned every bit of it, not just been given it as a participation award!Thank you to the owners and staff for doing all that is necessary to have my childrens confidence in Taekwondo excel, leadership skills developed, comfort level in speaking with other kids and adults occur more naturally, skill at learning how to be gracious when they lose and being respectful when they win! These skills have been and will continue to be invaluable in their lives in school and in their future.

The martial arts training has been excellent. The character training for my son has been great. In todays world children are being shaped by electronics and entitlement. Only we as parents can change that. We have chosen and continue to choose the instructors at Keenes to help us shape our son to become a confident man of character who can defend himself if necessary.

Keenes ATA school is not just about teaching self defense, although that is soooo important these days. They taught my son how to become a better person learning hard work, discipline, honor, respect and how to overcome hardships. These things are not taught in traditional school anymore!!!Its funny when I look back to five years ago when I fought my wife NOT to join my son into this school for two reasons. For one, I dont like spending money. For two, my son is labeled autistic, so I thought I knew better that it would be one failure after the next--I feared that he would never be able to handle it.Thank God my wife won that fight and he joined!Jared is now turning 15 and recently qualified for black belt which is amazing! But far more than that his entire body and personality/spirit have been completely transformed through the process! Over the years I have been involved with many other dojos and martial arts disciplines, but I have never seen anything like this where the entire person is trained--not just their body. The instructors are ALL IN and care about the students as if they were their own. Thank you Master Keene! We look forward to many more years being part of your family!

Excellent instruction at this school. I highly recommend for anyone thinking of taking martial arts.
