I had the privilege of training with Nelson Sensei and the team at Nations Aikikai for 6 months back in 2014. Nelson Sensei is a patient teacher and a distinguished budoka for those looking to train in aikido.

I have practiced Aikido under Sensei Andujar for a long time. I enjoy the practice and I like his teaching .He is a very experienced Martial Art Master. His technical move and performance is on spot and you can learn lots of good things from him. I did and I still practice.

Hidden gem in Houston?I travel all around the US and practice Aikido wherever I go. I never thought Ill found a 7th Dan teaching in such a low-key place. The aikido quality is probably the best Ive seen (and its the real thing, not the fluffy fake stuff you might run into quite often these days). The place, students and instructor have the best vibe, super friendly and welcoming.

Bad experience, a week into it, the instructor injured my wrist while showing off some technique, I was tapping but he wouldnt let go. Doctor said Ill have to wait a year or so until I can use it again..Considering legal action.

This place is for those who really want to have that knowledge to defend themselves from any encounter regardless how small. Your size up with many body types learning to distress and staying calm to perform with confidence of self defense.

I have recently moved to Houston and was ready to re-start my Aikido path (took a 2 yr break). I visited the dojo to ask some questions and ended up joining the training session on that day! I felt welcomed and right at home. Shihan Andujar is patient and eager to see us improve. There is a good mix of high and low level practitioners and a good martial attitude. If you are thinking to start a martial art, or re-take one, this is a good place to do it.

I have sent two of my children to learn from Sensei Nelson. The Dojo atmosphere is amiable, and everyone is willing to help each other. I have visited every martial art schools on Westheimer, and everyone wants a contract and your money up front. I can tell you that Sensei Nelson is not doing it for the money. Aikido is a Japanese art for an intellectual person.

I have practiced in many Dojos, but finally it seems like I arrived home. I have been injured in other dojos before, but never in this one (I have been praciticing here for more than a decade). Nelson Sensei is very approachable and takes the extra effort to explain techniques in great detail. We invite anyone interested in martial arts to try our Dojo, you will feel right at home.

I’ve practiced Aikido in various parts of the world and this is traditional aikido where proper dojo etiquette is observed at all times. I’m grateful for the excellent one-on-one instruction I’ve received in this dojo. There is a healthy distribution from beginners through experienced practitioners. You’ll find the atmosphere welcoming. Most importantly, no matter what your skill level is, I think you’ll leave each class a little more skilled than when you arrived.

Have practiced in many parts of the world and this place is one of my favorites. There are only a handful of such high ranking instructors as Andujar in the US... luxury to have one in Houston! Beyond the ranking, his quality of technique is superb. Good teacher and person. The people at the dojo are super nice and welcoming, I see that with beginners and experienced practitioners from elsewhere as myself.PS.: Ive never seen someone get hurt due to negligence in this dojo; people are very careful and Andujar Sensei treats everyone in line with their abilities (this is in regards to the comment below about an injury from a suspiciously unidentified user).

Have studied/practiced Aikido in multiple places (dojos) over 12 years and Nelson Andujar- chief instructor is one of the very best. He is very knowledgeable and patient and pays close attention to the progress, progress level, ability and limitations of not only current students but new students. He along with other senior students presses students to learn but not at the risk of injury or safety. That is not to say that one might not get a bruise sometimes or a muscle pull or cramp but that is the exception and not very common. All classes begin with good warm up and stretching exercises. Aikido is a very effective but mostly low impact form of self defense and the safety yet satisfaction of current and new students is a very high concern of the Chief Instructor.

If you wish to commit to learning and becoming proficient in Aikido then Nations Aikikai is the place for you, and Nelson Andujar is your Sensei. The classes are fun without being frivolous, and thoughful without being austere. Sensei Nelson has an instructing style that clearly presents the logical foundation of what he is teaching. It all makes sense. I wouldnt go anywhere else to learn Aikido.
