Wonderful not so popular gem
3 floors of art and a roof deck looking out on the East Village - the Swiss Institute offers Free Admission at its new home on St. Marks. The name suggests otherwise, but artists represented here come from around the globe - apparently the unifying theme among shows is that the curators foster international dialogue. SI has that in common with the neighborhood its now in. After a tour of the galleries inside, head out into the East Village for a global sampling - Veselka (Ukrainian), Maharlika (Filipino), Xian (Chinese), Via Della Pace (Italian), and Mamouns (Middle Eastern) are all within a block. In addition to the gallery space...At the entrance is a help desk with maps and exhibit pamphlets and the Printed Matter / St. Marks shop selling artists books and related goods. On the second floor is SIs Library and Reading Room, with an interactive visitor survey.
Nice place to stop in once in a while if your in the area.
Interesting place with free exhibitions - no reason not to stop by
A gallery and a great library featuring Swiss artists and designers.
Lacking of the art society feel? Wondering to well spend about an hour and a half on some extremely interesting topic and discussion about the art scene (Swiss guaranteed), I suggest you to go on their website and sign up for the newsletter in order and make sure to go there in person for some of their discussion series.
