Our son joined the dojo in Kindergarten and he is now 12 years old! We are so happy he found karate with Sensei Mark. When he began he was not very coordinated like most 5 year olds but with Sensei Marks encouragement, discipline and the right dash of humor, he improved and gained the confidence to grow in the practice. When we moved to Texas 3 years ago, he sadly left the dojo. We missed the community, camaraderie, movie nights, tournaments, and Mothers and Fathers Day classes FUN. Luckily, we recently moved back to NYC and with Senseis support, our son rejoined the dojo. Very happy to be back and see the new and old faces at the dojo. This is a gem of a community. Sensei Mark gives his students the individual attention and encouragement they might sometimes need. It is also wonderful when the more seasoned students help the newer ones with their katas and training, just adds to this amazing experience!

The code is simple: respect, effort, discipline, and kindness. He is an encouraging teacher who is great with adults and kids alike. My son has been a student at the dojo for nearly ten years, and I have joined it myself over three yeas ago. This has been a wonderful journey to see my son and other kids grow and mature as human beings and as students of karate. The environment in the class balances intensity and emotional well-being. It is friendly even as it promotes focus and dedication. This is not an easy dojo to jump form belt to belt - kids work hard to earn their promotions. They develop a commendable sense of respect and appreciation of each other and of the art of karate and self-defense. Sensei Mark has a remarkable ability to engage and work with kids of a very broad spectrum of abilities and personal challenges. He is patient and thoughtful in ways he designs and carries out the classes.

Sensei Mark provides a great balance of discipline and warmth in his classes, making for an awesome learning experience for students of all ages! Recommended!
