Caveat emptor. For almost a full year our now 5 year old son was enrolled in classes at the UWS location of Modern Martial Arts NYC. We even hosted his birthday party there, since he was very into Martial Arts (and Ninjago). The studio itself is small and a bit rundown, and we were not all that impressed by what we observed. Some of the instructors were OK, but others were mediocre at best. The schedule options are limited (one class for each age bracket offered several days/week), but we stuck with it for as long as we could. They will charge you a monthly fee for 2-3 classes/week, which is fine. The problem is that if/when you need or want to cancel (i.e., when your childs schedule changes and you can no longer make it to the one session they offer for your childs age group), they claim that you are locked into a long-term contract, and keep charging your credit card. Customer service is non-existent, and they outsource their billing to a company called ASF Payment Solutions (a 3rd party billing agency). The whole setup feels a bit sketchy. Also, be aware that they will nickel and dime you for small up-charges all the time (e.g., there is a graduation ceremony every few months at the end of class, and you are charged a fee each time over and above the monthly class fee). Definitely would not recommend this place - there are much better options available.
