The instructors? forget about it all A+++ caliber teachers. Casey and Greg, also Ryan are amazing knowledgeable instructors. FPTI is one of the best school out there, hands down! You know when I first moved to New York from Florida in July 2020, the start of the pandemic, a year later I am grateful to my instructors (Caroline, Kevin, Ryan, and Mitch) all four of these wonderful instructors made my passion grow even more each step of the way ! The very first day of class, it was such an experience it drove me to keep coming back with greater passion than before. I took the 150 hour course, the fundamental and if I had the time I would definitely took the master course and learned even more! Another thing, they are patience, professional, and the communication was very well by showing demos of the exercise and explain it to me to which I can understand and grasp. I love that I was able to research and find this school- Focus Personal Training Institute; choosing this as my school of choice for getting my certification and knowledge of learning how to Personally Train. In addition to this the staff along with the instructors were exceptional. You definitely will go into Focus knowing a little about training. But when you come out of this school you will learn more then you can imagine both as a trainer, yourself as a person, and knowing how to assess and train the client properly. 6 months may seem long for the masters program, but day by day the instructors keep you engaged and work with you through out this course. I learned a lot from demonstrations, lectures, program design, proper form, and how to use equipment that was given such as a kettle bell, resistance bands, and dowel. The instructors are very knowledgeable and lenient. You’ll be Guaranteed to learn something coming out of this program.

Focus Personal Training institute is the most professional, friendly and supportive environment. I contacted NASM and asked for the schools in New York that supported their system that would lead to their Certification. I visited and interviewed each of the schools including Hunter college programs. All of them were teaching Personal training as just another vocational subject with no real commitment or authenticity in environment, standards or staffing. I was giving up on my dream to change peoples lives through wellness and a healthy lifestyle. I had called Focus at the beginning of my journey and only discovered it because of the aggressiveness of a student recruiter. She convinced me to come and see the space and talk to some staff. The moment I walked through their gym space to the conference area I was greeted by friendly, helpful people offering to help, direct and answer any questions I had. I loved the professional, supportive environment and now having graduated from the program the experience never changed. I had a very good experience with this program. Its a very efficient choice given how much you learn in such a small time frame. On a number scale this school is a solid 10/10 and Id go as far to say its the Yale or Harvard equivalent for personal training.

I attended the Personal Training 600-hour Master Course from January to June this year. I started out the program at the facility in Chelsea. After years of slow, arduous progress in the gym, I made great strides towards my fitness goals under the masterful training of my course instructors. The week before the midterm, COVID-19 spread throughout New York City and necessitated a citywide shutdown. During these very trying times, the Focus faculty and staff tried so hard to protect the safety of the students while also ensuring we had the best educational opportunities afforded to us. We completed the midterm under new social distancing guidelines and waited to hear back about when we would be able to continue the second half of the course. In April, we moved to a virtual platform and finished the course online. In completely uncharted waters, the faculty and staff and Focus taught us how to train virtually and apply these concepts in person as well. In addition to making sure every student received special equipment at home in order to practice what we were learning in the classroom (during an equipment shortage, mind you!), the faculty and staff succeeded in making sure that no students were left behind in their learning during these unprecedented times. Thanks to everyone at Focus, I am a better trainer and coach from learning how to train online. I can’t stress enough how much I recommend going; going to Focus has reaffirmed both my love for fitness and my belief in my own capabilities for success. Thanks so much, everyone!! :)

I cant say enough good things about FPTI and the staff. I was truthfully hesitant to register for the virtual course, and considered waiting until in-person courses re-opened. But my intuition encouraged me to take the leap. I learned so much from this program, and now Im glad i took the virtual course. The instructors frequently said if you can coach virtually, when you get to in person youll be even better at it and its so true. Virtual coaching helped me perfect my verbal cues. The day is split up into theory and practical (hands on). As for the theory aspect of the program, it can be overwhelming with the amount of information that you are taught. From anatomy to diseases to the business aspect of training you are taught more than enough to pass any of the major CPT exams. It’s on the same level of in-depth information that is taught with some courses that you would take if you were in college for Exercise Science/Kinesiology. The instructors do an excellent job of making sure that you understand the work though. (Even if it means them stepping out of their comfort zone to demonstrate). When it comes to the practical/hands on part of the program you will definitely gain experience training people. What you learn during theory will carry over to the hands on training. I had a great time learning, training, and being trained by my fellow classmates. The diversity of my classmates (male,female, age, height, weight) made it such a joy working with them.All in all, this an amazing school for anyone who wishes to become a personal trainer. I am a proud FPTI graduate and must confess that this institute is a must for those who want to become a great personal trainer. Program is perfectly designed, they have day and evening courses so everyone can find the time and format suitable for him or her. Another big plus for me was that the classes included not only theoretical part, but practical as well. Practice was very important since YouTube and other sources could not really teach me. FOCUS was the perfect avenue for me to begin my new career as a personal trainer. Just recently graduated and what a great experience it was. The staff was amazing and the course was professionally ran. It was a challenging course with the first half of class in the classroom and the second half was on the gym floor doing practical application. This made the days go by fast and would prevent boredom from setting in.

Before enrolling I had purchased my NASM textbook and attempted yes ATTEMPTED to get my PT certification... one month later and I couldnt even get passed the first chapter. People think being a trainer is easy and I admit I used to think that, until I opened that book and let me tell you its not as easy as it seems.My boyfriend had just finished getting his re-certification at Focus and noticed how I was struggling to obtain and comprehend all this information so he encouraged me to enroll. BEST DECISION EVER!! I enrolled for the July 2019 semester excited yet nervous to start.I just graduated and cant believe it! If I could give more than 5 stars I would because this school deserves it. Everyone there is family and like family they want to see you succeed in life. From day 1 I knew I had made the right choice in enrolling. The way the curriculum is set up made the learning process so much easier and the dedication these teachers have for their students is truly a unique quality focus has and will always have. By the end of the program I couldnt believe how fast those 6 months had passed and I was so upset to go (I did contemplate on enrolling again just so I didnt have to say goodbye.) Now my next step is to pass my NASM certification which without a doubt I know I will pass thanks to all the help from my amazing teachers. I cant wait to go back and show them that certification.

A true learning experience. Coaches are very knowledgeable and familiar with fitness. I like that the program shows you how you can train without using weights necessarily and still get an intense workout. Also the stretches they show you definitely help you in any phase or condition of life.

After 20 years in another industry, I decided I wanted to personal train. I did a lot of research beforehand on schools and education, and ultimately landed on Focus. Im incredibly fortunate for having done so. The school is committed to ensuring students learn the most important aspects of training combining instruction in the sciences with practical application. The instructors are professional and excellent at what they do, all of them having years of experience in the industry.You could get most any cert by buying the book and taking the test, but at Focus you actually get to put the concepts into practice on your fellow classmates and get real time feedback on how youre performing. For this reason, I feel better prepared to go into most any situation with regard to training clients.

They have a beautiful state of the art place, the classroom is spacious and airy. A very worthwhile investment! This school prepared me well above and beyond what I expected. Not easy but the instructors and school support were excellent and help you through the tough parts. Probably the two most important and valuable parts of the course are the practical experience you gain while you learn, and the scientific background. A combination of training in a real facility and real people makes a huge difference as you learn and apply what you learn. And the scientific background they cover through testing, classroom instruction, discussion and application was really impressive (and much easier than going back to grad school!) Great school, if you are serious about a career in fitness.

I went in not knowing anything about being a trainer, and graduated with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to succeed in the field. I recently completed the Theory and Application Course and it was great! I was in the part-time class with Deb and Mary and they were awesome! They were so encouraging and always willing to take some extra time to answer our questions (and we had so many!). One of the reasons I chose Focus is their work placement program, which Im taking advantage of now. Theyre helping me refine my resume and cover letter as well as prepare me for my interview with perspective gyms, that they also helped me locate. Its all really helpful! The course was filled with a lot of information that dispelled many misconceptions I and my classmates had about training. Deb and Mary did a great job with making the concepts easy to grasp as well as giving us tips on how to explain that information to others. I cant even put in words how amazing the experience was at FPTI. From the supportive staff to the phenomenal teachers. It was a blissful six months.When walking through the doors on the first day, I felt at home and was happy with the choice I have made to join FPTl. When leaving FPTl on the last day it hit harder then graduating anything else. We became more then family, we obtained knowledge I never thought I would have, we acquired a skill that will put us above any other trainers out there in the world. I decided to take the Master course at FPTI and just graduated! It has been one of the greatest experiences of my life so far. Focus was the first school I have ever attended that I actually looked forward to going to each and every day. It was unbelievable how much they were able to teach in just six months. Everything they teach is something you need to know as a personal trainer, they dont waste time giving you useless information or show you something you are never going to need to know. I loved how the program was split into being in the classroom for half of the day and then the other half was spent on the gym floor getting hands on experience. The teachers are the best of the best and they are always there for you if you need them. Focus was the best decision of my life and I dont regret anything about it!

I was a student for 6 months at Focus on the master course. The teaching at Focus is first class and they practice what they preach when instilling a sense of professionalism and respect in their students. It is very friendly and welcoming atmosphere and all the staff are willing to help, it is a very open and caring community. The internship (during the second semester) that they are crucial in helping to obtain was one of my favorite learning experiences and opportunities while at Focus. It will help me far into the future as the quality of training that I saw when interning at Soho Strength Lab. was incredibly high and their professionalism combined with a relaxed feeling helped inspire me even further. The theory and application semester is both exciting and incredibly informative, it gives the bare essentials and sets you well on your way to become a personal trainer. The advanced concepts takes this a step further, it is not to be underestimated though as the concepts can be challenging and requires constant attention. The staff are always willing to help you, are very supportive and will devote time to helping you understand anything should you need the help. I couldnt speak more highly of the quality of service provided at Focus, however I would recommend caution in your expectation with the master course as it is a difficult course but can be incredibly rewarding and your enjoyment I believe comes down to personal motivation.

I knew from the moment I stepped in the door here that this was the perfect school for me! I was offered advice and guidance before even committing to the program, which was a major deciding factor when choosing schools. Throughout the program everyone was extremely helpful and genuinely concerned about students learning. I had a great learning experience at the Focus Personal Training Institute. My instructor was very passionate about the fitness industry and he inspired all of the students to be motivated as well. I enjoyed studying biology in school, so it was very interesting to learn about human anatomy. The practical aspect of the course really sets it apart. We got to train each other and learn new techniques every day -- so it was easy to implement everything we learned in the lectures. I was surprised and pleased to find out how much Focus supports its graduates in terms of finding a job and planning a career. Fitness managers and recruiters were brought in from a variety of gyms so that we could learn their various training philosophies and meet hiring managers in person. I would highly recommend the Focus Personal Training Institute because it will set you up to be a successful fitness professional.

I attended the 11 1/2 week morning course. Ernest Hudson and Adrienne Lufkin were my instructors. They provide great insight to what they teach as well as being thorough. They are very patient and offer great feedback. They will sit with you until you fully understand a subject or topic. The staff at Focus are very warm, friendly and helpful. I cannot recommend Focus Personal Training Institute enough to anyone thinking about pursuing a career in personal training.

Before attending Focus I had already been a trainer for a year and wanted to further educate myself in the training field without pursuing a college degree. My experience at Focus was like no other. The curriculum was comprehensive and very well thought out. We are taught everything we need to know about the foundation of personal training and in some cases more. Second portion of the class you are on the training floor applying what youve learned, which is amazing (especially for visual learners like myself). My teacher, Greg, was great, very knowledgable, and always willing to help whenever I had any questions. He taught us with so much passion that it made me more excited about learning and getting into the industry altogether. If youre thinking twice about joining the Master Course or Part-Time program, dont, it is worth it.

FOCUS is THE place to be if you are serious about getting a top tier job in the fitness industry, especially in New York City. I graduated the FPTI Master Course yesterday, and I’ve had seven job interviews and three job offers so far, and I have three more job interviews lined up next week! The learning experience was nothing short of transformational. I felt expertly guided and individually apprenticed by my instructors (who are all master trainers in their own right), and as a side effect of applying what I learned (to my own workout routine), I’m now in the best shape that I’ve EVER been in, in my entire life. For nearly six months, you spend seven hours a day, five days a week with a very diverse body of students (some of whom, by the way, will become lifelong friends) learning kinesthesiology, client assessment, individual and group programming, periodization, nutrition, every imaginable workout strategy (on the school’s gym floor)… seriously you learn SO MUCH… and when you’re done, you really do feel and know that you are prepared to expertly coach any conceivable client to their optimal level of fitness. I cant recommend this place enough!
