Visiting from Florida. Went to this store with my sister. We were treated very professionally and had a wonderful experience. The place is huge and modern. Had to watch a safety video first.. Chuck was the instructor in the range with us and he was attentive to everyone and knowlegeable. When I visit VA again I will stop in. Thanks Colonial, nice place.

My husband and I have been members for over a year. At the beginning of summer they started summer hours which meant that during the week they would close at 7 instead of their normal 9. We renewed our membership with the understanding that these were temporary hours. Summer is now over and the hours are now permanent. No one called to notify us of the change and this is just another example of how this company has failed to honor their word. Deal with them at your own risk, they do not keep their promises.

Fantastic store and staff! Store is well stocked, clean, nice layout. As a gun newbie, I did an intro to pistol class with Mark and a private instructor class for pistol selection with Mike. Both were educational, well-taught with clearly experienced and patient instructors who made me feel comfortable and safe using the handguns. Mike picked out a great selection of potential gun choices for me to try based on my interests and goals, gave great instruction, was pleasant and patient, answered all my questions while really helping me refine my technique. My wife also joined me and was very nervous about firing guns, and mike really helped her feel comfortable without pushing her too hard. Really a standout job!

One thing I cant stand is incompetence.Ive been searching for someone to help me with an appraisal for my three firearms so I can get them insured. My local gun store reluctantly referred me to Colonial...So I call, and ask Do you guys do appraisals for insurance companies I was told yes, come on in. Great! So I ask how much do they cost? and Im told they are free. Surprised, but cool!So I drive to Colonial and Im informed that there IS a price per hour, and that Im not just going to quit what Im working on now to look at them and to just leave them at the shop. $45 for an appraisal of two guns that have barely been shot, and one that hasnt been shot at all. I left with firearms in hand, and no appraisal. Didnt like the attitude, or the looking at me like I had five heads.First impressions are everything and this rubbed me the wrong way. I wont ever shoot, buy a firearm, or take a class here.

Was told over the phone that all i needed was my i.d. and social security number to purchase a firearm. I get all the way there and im told i need a lease, voter registration card and some other stuff to verify my address. Why do i need to verify my address if everything on my i.d is up to date? It was too much unnecessary things they wanted...I recommend to try the American Arms Gun Store across the street for good pricing and to avoid the hassle.

We have been to plenty of Gun ranges and have never had such a horrible experience as what we experienced today. The “manager” or supervisor today was the most unprofessional person I’ve ever met in this type of setting. While the rest of the staff was great this one individual was a poor representation of this facility and business. We will not be returning to this particular range although we had very high expectations and were enjoying ourselves. This place deserves more stars but it’s a shame how one individual’s poor range etiquette and unprofessional behavior can heavily blemish an institution.

I understand some of the other reviews saying the staff is rude, and I experienced this to a certain extent too.But there is also the total opposite, very friendly and helpful staff like Chris J at the range. He was very friendly and polite, asked me for my name and addressed me with it even with the right pronunciation (not easy for most Americans 🙂).Or the big guy at the shop, i think his name is Wayne, he was awesome and has an amazing knowledge about firearms.Overall great place from what I have seen so far, indoor range and store, and with all the classes they have to offer there will be more to explore...

The store is awesome! There is a very knowledgeable staff who are extremely helpful and responsive. I give 5 stars to them. But the range is another story. I went here to try and eventually buy a small 9mm pistol; and due to the small size I was hesitant before buying and wanted to shoot them before committing. Staff at the store tell me that they are completely disconnected entities and I would have to take it up with the range staff to try the rental versions. I had the impression from the store that the range fee and rental would be covered if I purchased a firearm the same day, but that was not the case, only the rental was covered. Thinking that both the time and rental was covered I only spent about 20 minutes on the range to try out the two pistols. I then walked down to the store to see another firearm had just gotten added to the floor. The sales associate recommended going back up, because I had about 30 min left, to borrow that gun. I went back up and asked if I could run back onto the range and just put a clip through the new pistol to see if I liked it before committing. They proceeded to get angry with me for asking and did not give me a reason why that was not possible out of you just cant. The range staff are overall unorganized, impatient, and non-accommodating. I give the range and their staff 2 stars. Save some money and go to Greentop instead, youll have a better experience hands down.

It started as any range day as usual... I got there about 610 or 615. When i got to the counter the man politely said you do know we close at 7 and he would not be able to rent me a lane for an hour. I said to the man thats fine, it usually doesnt take me long to shoot 50 rounds and he said ok then proceeded to go ahead and ring me up... So far so good just like anytime before but here is where the fun starts... I go to range 2 lane 13, then proceeded to get my target set up and sent out... Then the RSO comes up to me and said my LANE time was up... I thought to myself thats impossible, i literally just got here, maybe he made a mistake. By this time it was it was about 625 and then i proceeded to expend the ammo I had. And not 5 to 10 mins later he informed me that my lane time was up ten minutes ago, there were other shooters actively using the range... So i said let me unload and ill leave, he told me not to... So i thought best not to argue with people with loaded guns around and I left the range visibly angry, got my license and left. The only reason my rating is a two and not a one is because everyone else, every time has treated me well from the people in sales, the range counter, and management. This incident occured July 29, 2021 between 615 to 635 pm

This is an awesome place. They have everything that you need/want regarding guns. Very nice shooting range. Just learning guns again and getting comfortable with them before I purchase one. In the range, there was one employee, (a young man, about 30 yrs. old), who was dismissive of us which was quite unpleasant. He knew we were novices and I guess because he really didnt want to do anything, he could just treat us like the way he did. The gun kept misfiring and the ammo isnt cheap. There was another employee, (an older man), who helped us afterwards & he explained that the rental guns misfire a lot even though they get cleaned. I personally think that we should have gotten some kind of credit for all the misfires. Other than that, will still go back. Will speak up right away if we have problems w/the rental guns next time. Want to try different guns so that I can decide which one to buy for personal protection.

I’ve been to the range with my husband years ago and had a great time. Many years passed and I wanted more formal education so that I was informed and could be a responsible gun owner. I took the Ladies Only Basic Pistol with Betty Migliaccio and she was phenomenal! She knew her material, obviously knew how to handle guns, and taught the class in a way that catered to everyone’s individual comfort level. I took the all day course on a Saturday and was amazed at how quickly the time flew by. I’m would highly recommend the course and the range.

Just look at the automated response they give you . Belittling my claims . The introduction to the AR class Started And 9 a.m. You open your doors at 9 a.m. I went in line To get some ammo for the class since you would not let me bring my own ammo into the store . You have two separate lines one for members and one for non-members. You had 4 People behind the counter And they were accepting people out of the member line For 20 minutes And not taking one person Out of the non-member line . This is a separation in classes . People coming in the door 10 and 15 minutes after we did Getting waited on before us . I understand Nevers getting Preferential treatment But one person out of the four could have been taking care of the other line instead of making all of us wait For 20 minutes and that is not an exaggeration . I suggest Finding a smaller Gun range as they make you feel at home

I was one of the first members, joining in 2012 when the place opened up. It is a very nice indoor range, but I have opted to leave. The facility is great. The people are helpful when you can get their attention. Besides having a membership, I have purchased ammo, firearms and accessories there without a single hitch. The ranges are nice too, but policies have changed over the years leading to my departure. The first change involved the sweeping of brass; I reload (or sell brass to ammo sellers to take advantage of brass credit programs) and in the early days the range had a sweeper who was glad to sweep brass my way. My brass and others, if they were not collecting their brass. This helped defray my ammo cost, which ended up bringing me into the range more often, but they stopped doing this a couple years ago and now only sweep brass out onto the range floor for the range to collect after hours. The second change was more recent. A few months ago, the range put a requirement in place that all rifle ammo had to be purchased in house; no externally purchased rifle ammo is allowed to be used. Additionally, I sadly found out that if you do not use all of your in-house purchased ammo in on session and bring it back later to use it, that is not allowed either. This would be OK if Colonials ammo was priced anywhere near the price of my purchase source, but even with the member discount their ammo is still about 30% higher.I understand that some bad characters bring in armor-piercing and tracer ammo, which destroy the range... but not everyone needs to be impacted by the bad actions of a few. When Colonial first opened, check-in staff inspected all ammo prior to allowing it to go on range. They stopped that after a year or so... Why? Too slow a process? Check-in take to long? Hire another person to do this, instead of sending the entire class to the principal when one character acts out.Nice facility. Knowledgeable staff. Good ranges that are well lit. Too bad the policies are not customer-friendly and I have been driven to BRA.

I called and verified before making a 2 hour drive that they would be able to do a person to person transfer. After making my 2 hour drive, the young lady behind the counter took the purchasers ID, had him start on a background check and had me fill out paperwork. It wasnt until after the background check had come back approved were we told there was nobody on staff that was able to intake my firearm into their inventory to complete the transfer. Not only had I called before making the drive, so did the buyer of the firearm, and we were both told that there was no issue with completing the transfer that night, but the person behind the counter had the purchaser complete a background check, and ran it before there was any talk of not being able to complete the transaction. We called Patriot Services who was able to complete the transfer much faster, and only for $17 instead of the outrageous $50 that Colonial was going to charge.I will be sure to take my business elsewhere from here on out.

We politely said we did not have one on our person and asked if he could supply us one. He rudely said no and that we had to get out if we did not have a mask on. Range is very pretty and the front is the nicest indoor range I’ve been too but the short heavier set guy with the beard who was range keeper At the time seemed to have an issue with us. Kept nit picking everything we were doing, we had a target malfunction and he wasted easily 5-10 minutes of paid time. At one point he was just standing there thinking when they could have easily moved us to another lane. I understand safely but the guys I was with know their way around a range, fire arms, what to do and not to do and I’m a marine, nothing we were doing required that treatment. Nice safe and clean range. Been here twice in past couple weeks. First time was cool, the younger female range officer was awesome. 2nd time I came with my brother and his GF, who got her first 9mm and was eager to try it. She was a bit intimidated by the noise of the scar rifle/shotguns right next to us, as she couldn’t really hear our instructions. But after they left we had a great experience. The younger guy in his 20’s, range officer on Friday night, was super friendly and helpful and took the time to give some pointers which boosted her confidence, and by the end of it, she was enjoying it and looked pretty comfortable with her pistol. Exactly what we came for. The older gentleman was also very nice and even lended his speed loader. The staff here are great from what I’ve experienced so far.I’ll be looking into becoming a member and possibly take CCW class here. Today, as a repeat customer, I went into the store and was in the process of purchasing a concealed carry handbag for my wife. As I was getting ready to pay I casually asked if they had any .22 LR ammo. The female employee replied that they did but that unfortunately the current policy was that you could only buy ammo if you purchased a firearm. I voiced my surprise and noted that I had purchased several firearms there over the last few years. As we were checking out, I again raised the issue and noted that in the last several years I had purchased a pistol calibre carbine; shotgun; and Glock pistol (I didnt list all of the other things including headphones; holsters; bags; targets; range time) and asked if there couldnt part with a single box of .22 LR ammo. This time a different, male employee responded that it wouldnt be fair to someone who purchased a firearm and didnt have the ammo to go along. The manner in which he said it rubbed me the wrong way and after a few moments I politely responded that I had a choice where to spend my money and therefore declined to proceed with the purchase. So in essence, CSA has no regard for long-time, repeat customers and they would rather appease a possible future buyer. These are strange times and ammo shortages are everywhere, but CSA should reevaluate its policy on this matter or at least educate its employees to display a modicum of tact. I was willing to proceed with my purchase in spite of the policy until the male employee jumped into the conversation. At the end of the day, there is nothing at CSA that I cant acquire elsewhere.

After 3 months and two different accounts of the reasons. Armor piercing or Tracer/Incendiary rounds used on the range, depends on who you ask at CSA. Their website and check-in counter state you can bring your own rifle ammo, but the piece of paper, on the front door, from Sept says otherwise. You now have to buy reloaded ammo from the counter, at nearly new ammo prices, to shoot out of personal rifles. And as far as competitive ammo prices, 1,000 round, PMC .223 is a WHOPPING $474.50(+ tax) a case ! ! Maybe theyll let you shoot $0.50 a round ammo, if you buy it in bulk on site ! ! ;-)So maybe the counter people shouldve done their jobs and actually INSPECTED the ammo, like their sign reads. As well as, the RSO shouldve been aware of a customer shooting illegal ammo and stopped it before it became a problem. So they didnt have to persecute the rest of the members, that abided by the rules, with ridiculously priced ammo ! !

As we were looking around the gun store, we were approached by Tim O. He asked if he could help us. We had previously been looking at buying the Springfield Saint and asked if they had any in stock. They did not but instead of walking away, like has happened to us at some big name retailers, Tim asked more questions. To save all the long details, he spent about 45 minutes with us, showed us several rifles, and even showed me how to properly hold a rifle. We left that day pretty much knowing that we now wanted to purchase an AR15. Today, we went back to make our purchase and were again helped by Tim. He took the time to explain what accessories were the best choice to purchase first. I ended up purchasing a sling and a case. The gun came with a forward grip, which Tim took the time to install based on how I held the gun. He also installed the sling for me. I cant stress enough the great customer service I receive here. You will definitely not get this personal service at the big name stores. Thank you guys at Colonial! I couldnt be happier and more confident that I purchased the perfect gun for us!

This is a great, clean indoor shooting range. The staff is very helpful and the range is clean. There is a full gun shop located here and they also have several guns for rent. You can show up, take a short safety test, and rent/buy everything you need to start shooting.

When you hear rumors of poor service and treatment they come to be true.My Wife and I purchased firearms from Colonial and the staff was helpful through the purchase process. There are some great RSO’s and sales staff that have the awareness of empathy and understanding. Now let me outline where there are grave concerns with the lack of consistency of treatment or simple process at colonial.Timeline:- 1st visit to the range> it was identified that my wife’s VA driversLicense was expired> due to COVID DMV has providedAppointments 3 months out> Staff was fully aware of the pandemic andWere able to suffice the concern bySeeing the email to my wife on her phone- Next 4 visits> Staff stated it would not be a problem andPut a note on file that the email validationWas provided on prior visit> after the 2 firearm purchases and theMultiple visits I have spent $2,250-$2,500There in 2 months time- Final and last visit> After providing our IDs and waiting 35 minsAnd being called for our lane we were toldBy Luis that there policy “JUST” changed> Luis showed no accountability to coworkersNot checking and saving us time andApproached us as if we were trying to getOver on the range when we were simplyFollowing the procedures laid out byColonial> Luis stated he was the all authoritarian ofThe range and that there was nothing heCould do and me and wife couldn’t enterThe range> Only after pointing out how horrible weWere being addressed and how theProcess wasted time and that could itHave been avoided. Any quality company orOrganization would claim accountabilityAnd offer some sort of empathy orCompensation, but instead we wereAddressed with nasty, degrading comments andA total miss of human basic morals> I will ensure going forward to spread my experience with my large base of peers In the area and Through me and my wife’s many Social channels to help others avoid this place until it Rids itself from insensitive Managers like “LuisSpecifically” as it WILL and HAS hurt their bottom lineLuis is a huge problem for colonial. I work with leadership council in and around the Richmond area and companies Such as Phillip Morris, Capital One, and in the government sector and the actions that have been taken by Luis will hurt the brand of colonial.Hope someone reads and chooses another establishment and avoids wasting time and money with this company.

The staff at the gun range were very helpful...but when I went down to purchase from the gun store the manager wouldnt follow the stores own policys and procedures listed on their website to purchase a firearm. I had all requirements documentation and they wouldnt even start a background check to begin the process for me..the manager was a complete asshat...I feel discriminated against specifically by that asshat of a manager they have

Unfortunately, I felt that they were racist. Everyone there was white. I’m a white female with a black man. I felt like they constantly “nick picked” about everything. They gave us our IDs and cards back and shouldn’t have. They came looking for them later due to inexperienced help. He “whoever he was in the back at the range” constantly watched what we did and criticized. Granite, he tried to be friendly at the end, I was already blown being my first experience at the gun range. I didn’t even shoot cause I was worried about feeling uncomfortable as a first time shooter. I feel like I wasted or we wasted our time and money. I’d rather save my money, time and go elsewhere.

Colonial shooting academy is a safe friendly place with great customer service. Every Tuesday ladies get 50% off the range fees and memberships are worth it if you come at least twice a month. Dont let these negative reviews fool you. :)

Went to the store for 2nd time ever on 6/19/19. I have been looking for a good gun store due to a bad exp at Greenish place. I had heard the gun people can be unfriendly as a warning and during my 1st visit they were a little cold which could be because they were busy. Yesterday Wayne.W was incredibly helpful and went out of his way to help me even knowing he would get no sales from me this day. I highly recommend this location and will be returning with cash and my friends next payday.

Its one of the nicest indoor ranges youll see. I agree with the rude staff, but they are still working on putting the right team in place. Its a great place for beginners to learn to shoot.~They are the only shop that I could find that carries Blade Tech holsters.~They dont have much of a selection of used guns, but that will grow with time.~I was a member for a year, but cancelled my membership, since we just dont shoot often enough to justify the cost, which still wasnt bad - $53/month.~The best thing about the place is the range downstairs! Its a tactical range, where you can draw and move and shoot; and they have IDPA competitions every week. I only went once, but it was too crowded. I couldnt stick around; therefore, I never got a chance to shoot.~They also have great classes, but they are pricey. I guess you could say that price is a small detail when it comes to education/training and protecting yourself and your loved ones..

A great place to shoot. Last visit there was a wait list(~25 min), thankfully they have a great showroom with plenty of products to look at. All the people behind the counter are very personable and are very quick to strike up a conversation. The gentlemen at the lane rental counter were very busy but did not hesitate to stop what they were working on to answer questions. Will return soon A+

Helpful and friendly staff at the gun rental counter. Knowledgeable and enthusiastic throughout the rental process. Greeters at the front were very helpful in explaining the store layout and rental procedure.Range was quite well ventilated and quite well lit. Target machines worked exceedingly well and had a good amount of options. Rentals were in good working order. Range instructors were vigilant with range safety as was the man policing spent casings with the broom. There was a small wait time however it was well worth it.

Always a pleasure stopping by this place. Staff is always helpful and ready to help you will any gun related needs you have. I always feel welcomed when i visit, when I hear them say hey welcome back, how ya been? And also they dont mind taking time to conversate, and dont make you feel rushed to buy anything. I also use this location as my FFL when ever I order anything online. If I had to say anything negative, which isnt that bad, is I wish they had a larger gun selection. Other then that. Its a great place to go. Yes I would highly recommend this place.

Our son is attending the Fork Union Military Academy near Richmond VA. We live near Cleveland Ohio and try to drive down to see Michael once a month. Michael carrys an inoperable M1 sometimes at school and we thought it would be fun to take him to a range to shoot a real M1. Ive been to ranges over the years and really enjoy taking kids so they can learn how much fun competitive shooting can be. Anyway, this range is by far the nicest range we have ever been to. They facilities are 1st rate and the people are absolutely wonderful. The men and women at this range are extremely knowledgeable and really are just super nice people. The rental selection is good and reasonably priced. This range is really special. I hope more ranges like this open up across the US. These ranges have the potential to be tremendous ambassadors for shooters. The cost to set up a business like this is enormous! The payroll, insurance and benefits requited to keep knowledgeable staff is huge. Im so grateful that someone has taken the time money to open a range this nice.

My daughter and I had a fine time there. The range was patrolled and safe. I liked that they pay attention to safety and have their act together. After we shot 150 rounds of 9mm in my Sig, we went to the sales counter to look at revolvers. The gentleman was VERY helpful and showed my daughter a GP100 revolver. I was taken aback by the good manners. Its kind of unusual these days, especially for those of us that come down from DC. Anyway, this will become a regular stop for us. We really loved this place.

Just became a member today, it was so awesome. The range officer was very helpful me being a new shooter I needed all the help I could get. They have a large selection of firearms as well, although I do believe you can find cheaper online with the ffl Nd shipping its about the same. There ammo was a good price as well. All in all I really enjoyed myself today and look forward to being a member for a very long time.

Weve been here several times and always enjoyed it, but I really have to applaud your customer service! I wanted to get my husband a gift card for Christmas and planned to stop by, but realized it wasnt going to happen. I bought one online, and asked in a message if they would mail it that day. They processed it and got it in the mail immediately - as in, within minutes. I got it in plenty of time for Christmas, and I really appreciated how efficient and helpful they were!

Been here a time or 2. Just not a fan of the place. Way over priced. Knlowlege is lacking in the field of customer service. Will not return because of rude service ,,(never shot on their range,) due to the idea I have never fired a weapon, which I have my entire life. Either way. No harm, Ill continue my life on private property.

I rated with 2 stars because the costumer service guy was very distracted and cocky, I had to repeat myself many of times, I am usually very patient and polite but this guy was disrespectful and snooty his name is Brian and I hope this matter can be sorted out next I come back overall the place looks nice, clean but contradicted with customer service.
