I do not write a lot of reviews, but I feel like Coach Michael deserves one. This is not just a job for Coach Michael, I believe it is his passion - it is about the development of each individual player, both on and off the court. He is the only coach I know that videos each lesson. He spends 1.5 hours on the court with you and I dont know how many hours afterwards, reviewing the video and technique. He is about progression, not just about hitting a bunch of balls on the court. His lessons are meaningful and he also spends a lot of time on the mental side of the game.Michael is very direct and funny - my daughter enjoys his lessons and he is the guy who can help her play at the college level, if she desires. I hope Im leaving this review for the correct coach. Mike (coach Michael) saw my children and our neighbors children hitting old tennis balls around at Mary Mumford with even older rackets. Fifteen minutes later he returned with a case of new tennis balls and three newer rackets. He never asked for a thank you or expected anything in return. He just wanted the kids to enjoy playing with newer equipment.Im not a review parent but this incredible act of generosity just warmed my heart and I wanted to thank him personally but have yet to have that chance. Mr. Dezane transformed my 3.0 game to a 4.0 in 6 months. I have been at 3.0 at my Willow Oaks team for two years. Michael was phenomenal at creating talent I thought was impossible. My husband and I observed my sons lessons for the first month. We were a bit concerned at first as the lessons seemed to have little instruction. Coach Michael would describe what he needed my son to focus on, demonstrate the skill and proceed to watch mistake after mistake with hardly any correction. Michael has been coaching my son, Max, for about 6 months now and I have been incredibly impressed! Max has improved greatly and loves his lessons. Michael does a great job of challenging Max to do his best and stay focused while still being super patient and making sure he’s having fun. I can not recommend him highly enough.

He dropped me as a student because my mom tried to get a lesson schedule that would work with our familys summer sports. He wrote a lot of things about her that are not true. Example - she is demanding, other parents heard her. She rarely took me to tennis because my dad does. I dont think she has ever seen another parent. Maybe he just didnt want to deal with me.

I recently decided to look for a new tennis instructor after a year of lessons without much, if any progression. I heard about tennisrva from a friend and wasnt expecting much more than a hour of yet another instructor changing my forehand grip and swing. Coach Michael noticed a few things within minutes that were causing my errors. He simply set my racket in a very comfortable, but very specific way then proceeded in explaining how my mechanics work and why my brain wasnt allowing change to happen. His simple, yet informative style of teaching made me feel comfortable and relaxed. Basically he reconfigured my swing in minutes before we started hitting. The changes, although small and subtle made a world of difference. In one lesson I was hitting at twice my normal pace and twice the consistency. Needless to say Ive signed up fulltime now.Coach Michael is a Phenomenal instructor who has completely changed my outlook on tennis.

Great program! We really wanted our niece to improve her game and have been disappointed in the other clubs attention to details in her development. My son started coaching from Mike about 3 months ago. My experience had been wonderful with Mr. DeZaine. My son had been with a couple of coaches before Mike. The main difference I saw between others and Mike is the passion he has for the sport. I waited about six months to write this review as I felt i had to really experience tennisrva to help people learn more about this program. You come here either to improve your tennis abilities or to try something new. We came here for tennis only at first, in four months my son grew from low level beginner to a player in VA to a advanced intermediate player. there is no or little flexibility in changing your schedule as they seem booked year round. As time went by we learned this hard way by losing a time slot. But we rescheduled events and it paid off. Coach Dezaine is fantastic with inspiring students and myself as a parent. You will understand what Im talking about if you are one of the parents who has experienced how match play and team pressure situations are nerve wracking. They have consistently done whatever is necessary to help kids be all they can be. This program promotes competition, hard work, respecting each other, and sportsmanship . My wife and I really see a lot of positive energy which is refreshing. Tennisrva has my complete confidence in coaching players of all ages.

I am a 4.5 player (former college player) from North Carolina. I was in Richmond for my sons basketball tournament. I had some extra time so I took a few playing lessons from Mr. DeZaine who is the owner and head coach at tennis rva. I was very impressed with his extreme knowledge of the game and ability to see my weaknesses and correct them right away. I highly recommend Tennisrva and coach Dezaine and will be returning to work with him again.

My daughter, who is finishing 7th grade, has accomplished alot in terms of school team ranking without a great deal of coaching. That said, after just a few sessions with Coach Michael, she is rapidly learning all the correct approaches to tennis. Michael provides a well rounded lesson plan, takes notes and has delivered results. From stretching and warmups to footwork and power generation. For me, the most unexpected part of the skills leasons are all the great questions he asks while teaching. This appears to make the students think through the best practices for the game without just being told what to do. He is kind, but firm about good technique and knows when to make an adjustment. And the bottom line, my daughter is having fun while learning a ton. Highly recommend!

Can’t say enough great things about tennisrva. Our 15 year old daughter was recently evaluated and started private coaching with Mr. Dezaine. Michael DeZaine is an astute observer of players strengths and weaknesses and accurately pinpoints what they need to work on. He is patient and kind, but most importantly motivational in building confidence. He stands out most of all for his heart in truly caring about the kids he coaches. He takes time to get know them. Under coach Mr. Dezaine my skill level skyrocketed to number 1 in my high school in under six months. I have played tennis for three years for my school, but I never had my own professional coach until a year ago. With Michael coaching me I have improved greatly.
