I am so happy I found Jung Kwon Martial Arts Academy. I saw a notice on facebook that they were holding a free self-defense class for seniors, and took a chance to attend. When they asked for any volunteers to come up and try some techniques, I was first to jump up and try. It was fun, and the owner (Porter Hughes) and his lovely family suggested that I come in to try some classes. They had an offer of five classes for $5, so how could I not try that. After the first class, I was hooked. It has now been a year since starting classes, and I have made wonderful new friends, learned a lot about self defense and gotten in much better physical and mental shape than I was when I started. The Hughes family, along with my classmates, are kind, caring people with good senses of humor and respect for my age and ability level. I hope to continue working with Jung Kwon Martial Arts Academy for years to come, and highly recommend it to people of all ages and ability.

Great school! After hitting about 8 or 9 places in the county I have to say this place is the best by far. Prices are the best around, all the black belts are knowledgeable (and humble!), and the people are friendly too. If youre looking for place to practice and learn, without drama or egos getting in the way, this is it!

I wasnt sure what to expect at first, but Im glad I chose this school. As a college student, the classes are very affordable. Everyone is overwhelmingly nice to me—even though Im shy and dont intermingle after class—but they still push me out of my limits and it really has helped me come out of my shell some since I started over a year ago. I also love the outside classes at carrier park. Its fun getting to practice forms on top of the guard rails there, although its a little embarrassing with the runners and bikers passing by watching us flail about on them whenever we lose our balance.

I am ever so grateful to Master Hughes, the Hughes family and their black belts staff for the help and assistance they provided our nephew while he was living with us during his dads military deployment this past year. His personal growth here has been phenomenal! He was depressed and angry about feeling abandoned and suffered from being bullied in class and on the bus due to his small size. Within weeks of beginning practice at Jung Kwon School his confidence was visibly improved, the bullying stopped, and he started making friends. He is braver, stronger and more physically coordinated now, too. We put him in martial arts to learn to defend himself, but we never expected his time at Jung Kwon to make his entire life experience better! that was a plus that made all our lives easier and smoother!

I am so impressed with the quality of instruction at Jung Kwon Martial Arts Academy. Master Hughes is a gifted teacher and both my sons have flourished here. They started classes eight months ago and weve been thrilled both at how much theyve learned and the amount of individual attention they receive in every class. Our older son is 9 and is very focused on learning everything he can. Our younger son is 6 and not nearly as focused, lol. Master Hughes adjusts his teaching style to work with both of them successfully. As a family, we love being a part of Jung Kwon Martial Arts Academy and look forward to the years to com

Great location, easy to find. Bar none the most affordable classes in Asheville. Lots of great one on one instruction. And the best training Ive seen. Anyone leaving poor review is a troll. This place is amazing! Try one class and you will see that I am right.

Great family-run school! The teachers are friendly and their special exercise mat feels nice for your feet to be on after working all day. I also like that the Master Instructor is a US military veteran, with lots of experience.

Nice people, small classes, wonderful prices. Usually martial arts schools do one thing well - katas, fighting or self-defense, and let the other two falter. This school literally does do it all, and they do it all very well - just like the traditional schools did back in the bad ol days! Master Hughes is one of the best martial arts instructors I have ever met, and Ive been around the martial arts world for a long while!

The people here are very nice people, The prices are great, and the classes are a lot of fun. I also like the idea that we belong to an international organization and the fact that Im practicing under a Black Belt Hall Of Fame instructor.
