Let me begin by saying that my child has had an amazing experience at Green Sprout (GS) and I would highly recommend this school. GS is a very special place. The school provides some of the highest quality care and education I’ve seen or heard of occurring at any daycare (and Im an education researcher). I’m impressed with the school across aspects. The school leaders do a great job recruiting, training, and retaining amazing teachers (no easy task) and the montessori, play-based with guidance philosophy of education is consistent across teachers in the school. Unlike many early childhood centers, every teacher is terrific and there is a low level of turnover in the teachers. The school administrators and teachers are very thoughtful about the physical environment (without going overboard). Most basically, the school is very clean and safe. But, beyond that, all the toys and activities are carefully curated and frequently rotated to give students new, stimulating learning experiences and the outdoors space is very nice. The sense of community is strong (but not burdensome). The administration is organized, clear, and kind, with excellent communication skills. The teachers are also great about keeping parents informed about what is going on at school. My 1 year old child sincerely loves the people at Green Sprout. When I bring her there in the morning, its like bringing her to hang with extended family. My only regret is that Im having to leave this school too soon due to a move out of Austin.

I was immediately impressed with Green Sprouts and signed up for the wait list right away. At the time my children was 4 months old and it was my plan to have them in school by the time they were 12 months - 15 months. I had multiple conversations with the school via phone and email and was assured that they would get in within the desired timeframe. They charged $100 per child to enter the waitlist which was higher than most of the other schools I visited. Even though I wasnt given a guarantee, I was given reasonable assurance that there should be no issue with them receiving admission.I would send follow up emails for months to come and continued to get assurance. Then somewhere around the time when my kids were 16 months, I followed up again since this was well after when I expected admission and was basically told there wasnt room and they had no idea when there would be.Now, I completely understand how wait lists work and I know there is no guarantee, but when someone continues to give you re-assurance that admission is very likely in the timeframe you desire and all the sudden your told they have no idea when it will happen...I personally felt completely misled. If I had any idea that paying for the waitlist meant that I would be told down the line theres a possibiliy they may never get in, then I would have never signed up and paid the fee. There were other schools I had interest in which told me they didnt feel right to take my money because they knew they couldnt get my children in during the timeframe I wanted.When I expressed my concern about the fact I was misled and paid for a waitlist fee under false pretenses, I was basically told they dont do refunds and that the fee covered all their time spent on correspondence with me.I think anyone whos interested should just be aware that they will take your money for the waitlist even if there is no spot for your child. If you are okay with that then no problem, but for those of you who want reasonable assurance like I did, I would recommend you save your money for a school that is honest with you about when your child has the best chance to be enrolled.
