The staff is friendly. They provide quality service at an affordable price. I feel very comfortable working with both students and mentors. Many esthetic and hairstyling clinics can be expensive, hence reserved to an elite. However Nova Academy make such treatment available to more clients. Everyone deserves to feel good about herself/himself.

I came into today for a facial with Hope Sprang. My skin was feeling dry and like sandpaper. I had the most wonderful experience and Hope made me look like the goddess I am. I was so happy, I booked next week!! Thank you for taking care of me.

My hair is curly ,thick and prone to frizz. Many hairdressers arent experienced with my type of hair sadly.I had just about enough of doing my own coloring as well as I wanted to shake things up a bit. I had the pleasure of booking with Jenna and OMG I love her 💕, Not only did she nailed the color and tone I was looking for she got my hair completely 😍. Her recommendation on products was spot on. Really unhappy with the full set of highlights I received. I feel like it didn’t change my hair much and look like a mess. Not even fully up to the roots. It was a waste of money (comparable in price to other salons) and 4 hours of my time. This was suppose to be a treat to myself as a nurse that works a lot of hours due to Covid 19. I ended up leaving and going out to my car and crying over how bad my hair looks.

I went to see Molly K at Nova to help with some skin concerns I had. Molly was so knowledgeable about everything from my skin type to what products and services would be best for me! She was excited about everything and you can tell skincare is what she loves! 10/10 would recommend Molly!

I got my curls! I have been trying to get a perm for almost a year. Many salons no longer like to do them and charge $200+ for the process. I went to Nova expecting to spend 4+ hours and possibly having hair that would need some repair. No way! I was paired with Mac (who is pretty new) who was very careful and with the assistance of Chloe (who is soon to graduate-congrats), I was up and out of there in less than 3 hours! Not only that but Mac was very impressive as she took instruction very well and her fingers were nimble and quick. I went to school at NOVA & cannot express how grateful I am to be given this opportunity. When I left NOVA I was set up for success and the staff was so helpful all the way to helping me find a job! NOVA was so much more than an educational facility, it was a family that was with you in your successes and hardships!

Molly K was fantastic! She was able to figure out my skincare routine and answer all of my skincare questions! She also was extremely friendly and made me feel so comfortable! It was definitely one of the best facials I have received.

I went here to become a Nail Technician. I never ended up attaining my license due to the fact they charge you $5k just to attend the school. You spend maybe 4 weeks in classes, and the rest of your time basically only doing pedicures. I got no real practice doing acrylic nails. The school never provided knowledge or access to newer products. You then had to pay out of pocket to take your boards, and out of pocket to obtain the license. This was the biggest waste of $5,200. If I would have known I would not get the experience I was looking for or that I would not be able to after the fact even afford to get my license I never would have gone. I did love the girls I went with though and most staff were AMAZING!!! Financially a rip off and experience wise a joke as far as the nail tech course.

First of all, I decided to come here as a reward for passing the most important exam of my career because I figured it would be cheaper than a tattoo. WRONG. The prices listed online do not match up with the prices actually charged. My experience was long (over 4 hours) and unorganized. The student who colored my hair had to leave as soon as it was done so someone else cut it. This student was clearly frustrated at having to cut my hair and seemed distracted. Then a third person blow dried my hair. The child working at the front desk expected a tip for all three when literally anyone can blow dry hair. The end result of my hair is NOTHING like I wanted it to be and now I’m out over $100. The color job is uneven (the majority of my highlights are on the back of my head...who would want that?!) and the cut is only layered in the back and not the sides. Now I have to go to a different salon and hope they can help fix what these people screwed up. I’m not sure if I caught the students on a bad day or if their teaching is this bad, but I will not be coming back or recommending this place to anyone.

I had a haircut by Morgan Zwart and it was one of the best haircuts Ive had. She did the hot towel treatment and she was so nice about everything. If I mentioned something that I didnt like about it, she had no problem fixing it. Thank you Morgan!

I went to Jordy R. for a haircut and got a clean, well tapered fade. I could tell that she was very attentive to how I like my hair cut and went with the look that I wanted. Used a lot of attention to detail without making the haircut lengthy and drawn out. I would definitely recommend her for a mens haircut.

My haircut with Ellie was amazing! I even got my hands dipped and wax. I left with smooth hands and a slick new haircut. Felt like a new man; 10/10 would recommend.

I got my hair cut and colored. My stylist was friendly but not too chatty. She did a great job. I had the best head massage too. She then colored my eyebrows and they are perfect.

I love this school so much! It was the jumpstart to my career and I feel like I learned so much from the instructors. My books were always full and I was able to pass my psi state tests the first time because Nova made sure I was prepared to pass! I love going to Nova for haircuts and also pedicures. I always have a pleasant experience there and the students are all so nice. Their prices for services are very reasonable. I had a pedicure earlier this summer and it was wonderful, best one I ever had. And I got to keep the nail polish for touchups, you cant beat that! Try it, youll love it!

I went in to get a color and the first round did not go well. My hair ended up turning orange but I called them the next day letting them know I was unhappy so they got me in within two days and fixed it free of charge. It looks great and I am super happy with my hair. Thank you Kortney.

I had a keratin treatment mind you my hair is Afro textured I wasn’t too impressed it doesn’t feel any smooth but damaged my hair , basically felt like it was a cheap treatment and a total waste of money, I ended up chopping off my hair . Waste of $120

Expect to be there a while (perhaps even a long while). The stylists are students, so things seem to move at a slower pace. That being said, they are very friendly, eager to learn and to please, and the staff and instructors are knowledgeable, helpful, and will make sure you leave happy. The standards for a finished product seem higher than at regular salons, meaning that you will end up with a fantastic look at a fraction of the cost.

This afternoon I had my first experience with this salon, and I love my new haircut! :) The staff was friendly and not too pushy with products, etc. The young woman and instructor (both of whom cut my hair) listened to my suggestions and were skilled in carrying through with the haircut I wanted. I am very thankful for their work, and I intend to return in the future.

I came here for prom for the first time ever to get my hair done because i cant do anything for the life of me! I had a pretty simple idea for my hair, side french braid with some decorative rings in it with light curls. I was happy with it when everything was finished but my friend was sitting by where my lady was after i left and said she was talking very badly about me and my idea, Dissapointed that I gave a pretty good tip! She had red shaved hair :/ Wanted to complain but didnt want to make myself more upset.

I get facials there and always have a good experience. I decided to get a gel manicure there today and it peeled off after 2 hours...

This was exactly what I have needed for a long time. I spent the morning getting a facial, pedicure, and manicure done by Isabell. She was absolutely amazing. I think she said she will finish school and move on at the end of July. I highly recommend you book yourself an appointment with her before she graduates, especially a facial! She is a very sweet, kind, and professional young woman and does an excellent job!! I’ve had a couple facials done at the DAHLC and they were great but Isabell did a far superior job and I’d absolutely visit her again!

First time experience with Nova was great, they did an excellent job with my ombre color a few years ago. Went in for a simple trim recently and came out with a whole new hair cut. When I asked if they knew how to cut curly hair they said they yes...that wasnt true. I have 3b curls and they butchered my hair so bad, cut it super short and uneven. I learned my lesson, never again!! Wouldnt recommend if you have textured hair.

Nova has always been a great place for me when I want anything from a simple hair cut to a color; unfortunately the last time I was there for a root touch up/color the process was started and completed before consulting with me about what I was looking for. I left feeling less than happy and also communicated this to the student. She did tell me, as well as the instructor that I could get the desired look by coming back. Initially I wasnt going to bother but I had several people within the hour ask what I did to my hair. I called NOVA and was scheduled immediately. They weaved in some highlights and I left feeling completely satisfied and that the instructors as well as the student cared. The weekend was a formal event for me so I went there feeling put together; hair and all.

As a student at Nova, I love it ! The staff is extremely helpful, nice and FUN! Environment is always positive and inviting! Esthetician program is amazing!

Great haircuts at a great price! I have wavy hair, so finding the right place to cut it right can be a difficult chore, especially when I have moved a lot. When I heard of Nova, I decided to try it out, because the students are being supervised by their instructors, so the chances of them doing it wrong are minimal. I have had newer students, and students on the verge of graduating cut my hair, and they all do a great job! Sure, sometimes with the newer students, the instructor comes through and fixes a spot they missed, or the instructor will cut my bangs the way I want because the student is unsure, but theyre good too! They wash, cut, dry, and straighten my hair, all for one small fee! I dont mind the straightening, as this way I KNOW they wont miss anything that my wavy hair might hide. This is the only place Ill go to in Rochester!

Ive visited Nova to have my hair cut, colored, and deep conditioned, as well as a gel manicure and eyelash tinting... and I LOVE how everything has turned out!

I used to go and get Brazilians here regularly, it was money-saving because it was only $35 versus $50+ at regular salon/spas with certified estheticians..and it got the job done.Although it may have taken longer than a certified esthetician, I understood and was always patient that these were students who were learning (hands on) at a discounted price.I probably wont go there anymore, now that their new location have sky-rocketed the prices of their services! Brazilians went from $35 now at $50! Its terrible to pay just as much as a salon for inexperience service.

Hands down one of the best beauty schools you can attend! This school truly cares about the success of the students and provides them with ample tools to do so! I am a former student of Aveda and owner of a local business whom Nova supports. Nova is one of the most advanced schools Ive ever walked into, the Esthiology students receive Hydrofacial training, advanced makeup/skincare training and lash extension training! Seriously for the cost of attendance and how big of a working kit you get, its a HUGE DEAL. You might say I am biased, however when I am there training the students (yes you get airbrush makeup training!) I ask them every-time where they see themselves after school.. most respond with they already have job offers! There is no secret that every salon around is hiring, the time to become a Cosmetologist and Esthetician is better than ever! Better yet the facility is brand new, clean and modern. The owner of the school, Michelle, not only owns TWO cosmetology schools and a salon, she STILL does hair one day a week! If that isnt some inspiration and passion in this business, Im not sure what is.

I simply adore all of the young ladies who practice their passion at NOVA! My monthly waxes always have Sam (the ever fantabulous receptionist of NOVA) pairing the most lively of girls with me. Only a man as fashionable as he could offer tea, small talk fashion and pull off faux snake skin shoes ;) Dont worry Sam, youll get there someday :PI truly recommend the Academy to people wanting excellent service and those would like to provide experience to an exceptional group of students. In the past five times Ive been to Nova Ive loved it, but yesterday I went in and had a terrible experience. I ended up being there for a total of six hours. They tried to do a balayage in my hair and it ended up being like chunky lines of blonde all over it. It was patchy and they tried to fix it. I understand it is a school, so I know these things happen. The part I was extremely dissatisfied with was that the instructor never offered advice or critical feedback to the honors student who was doing my hair. She obviously needed help with it, but neither of them seemed like they knew what they were doing, they just were guessing and then tried stuff. This was 12 days before my wedding! I was nervous about the way they were acting like they didnt care too much about my hair!My hairdresser also did not know how to keep track of the time. She would tell me the color had to be in for 5-10 minutes, and 15 minutes later I had to get up and search for her because I didnt know where she went. They ended up coloring and washing my hair three times, and every time my hair had to process my hairdresser just deserted me and never knew how long it had been in when asked by the instructor. Apparently the instructor had no problem with this.Then, at the end, the back of my shirt was ruined because it got bleached by my hair. I have long hair and the hairdresser did not know how to care for it. She brushed it very roughly when it was wet three different times. I felt like it was breaking off all over again right after they had cut off the damaged ends. :(

Have been to Nova many times.My experiences have been very good.I took my niece there from Arizona to have some highlights ,low lights,and a root coverup.They forgot the root coverup.So I called we went back they did an excellent job.She was very happy with her hair.Also there was no charge.The supervisors are more then willing to bend over backwards to make the customer happy.I appreciate that.I will definitely be back.Thank You Nova.

I went in with a picture and wanted to be blonde. They suggested foils, I have lines and spots, its a yellow blonde. The instructor fixed it once then never came back to check on me! You could the the student did not want to do my hair. The whole 4 hours was awful.

My girlfriend goes to Nova, she has learned so much and Im glad she picked this career. She loves this school.

I got a keratin treatment that lasted five hours!! It would have lasted longer if I hadn’t had to go to work. I got this done at the other school that has since closed and it took only an hour.

I got a facial from here on saturday and my face is burned and i am never going back to this place ever again
